Really? Because all I got was a nun in bad makeup for half of the trailer, followed by exactly one pointless jump scare at the end.

I've seen scarier "Schoolhouse Rock" episodes.

A documentary about my Catholic high school Spanish teacher would be a lot scarier.

I'm just a kill
Just a murder-type kill
And I'll get you kids you know that I will
So now I'm off to the graveyard
Where I'll hide out of sight
And eviscerate my victims
Till the dawn's early light
And if you find me first you might survive
Oh I hope and pray you're alive
So your death I'll contrive
With a kill

Looks like The Nun is going to have to say a few hail Marys to break even at the box office.

Not a single pointer stick, yardstick, or even ruler in sight?

I joke, but I did experience some of that corporal punishment by nuns in my youth.   Also knew a couple of really good ones too.   The standards for letting them be teachers were looser then, and some of them fell into the work without qualifications or desire, they were just ill-suited tot he job, without training, with some behavioral issues, and some bad ideas about discipline.  That's not how it is now.   But the stereotypes exist for historical reasons.

A movie with an all powerful evil that can kill people at any time but will wait til the end to give a jump scare /kill the protagonist?

Dear god in heaven that was a terrifying scene when I first saw it. I watched it on DVD, but I'll bet in theaters that got some well-earned screams!

After the festering suckfest that was Exorcist 2, I would have never guessed that the 3rd one would have a moment so effective people would still talking about it almost 30 years later.

Why is each sequel always touted as "the darkest, the most scary chapter, the most haunted ever" in relation to the previous films.

Why is it never, "in a story ALMOST as scary as The Conjuring".....    Is that bad marketing?

Well, that trailer was a let down.  And no, it doesn't look scarier than The Conjuring.  I just hope it's better than the suckfest that was both Annabelle movies.

I'm looking forward more to seeing Hereditary.

Sudden, silent, unexpected, without a loud music sting or anything - it was great. Scared the crap out of me when I first saw it made even more terrifying because it wasn't a gorefest - your imagination filled in the blanks, and man, did mine do a number on me.

"...like a after school special"?

Maybe subby should stay in school a bit longer and not rush home to watch TV.

Brad Dourif made that movie. He's excellent in everything he does but he hit peak creepiness in that film. "I sometimes do special things to my victims: things that are creative. Of course, it takes knowledge, pride in your work..."
