People say that a lot about powerful women.

But not about men.

She's the empress of her business empire and she's wildly successful. She's the kind of person who demands competence. Sometimes people say "handful" or something similar when they mean "b*tch." I'm not accusing you of being a sexist at all, just that sometimes (and I'm guilty of this, too) the words we use have the connotation of diminishing women who could buy and sell you, and ruin your life with a couple of phone calls.

Also, it's guaranteed to get church-y because she's known for her spirituality and her gospel music. I'm not big on the church stuff, either, but if it's Dolly, that's just who she is, and I still adore her.

I agree, but I guess there's a way to be spiritual, and a way to address religion that panders to American Christians.  Her music is uniformly the former, but it's hard to pull off for a TV show.  There's a big audience in pandering

She also is a tool of the Patriarchy for pandering to straight males' attraction to large breasts.

She had a fascinating life. Should be a good show.

Grow up, snowflake.  Religion defined Dolly Parton's life, and it shows through in many of her songs. It's unavoidable. I'm not a religious person, but I'll watch regardless. It's not like we're learning about Jim Bakker here.
It's like saying "I want to learn about the King of Rock and Roll, but avoid all the churchy stuff". It doesn't work.

She has had to deal with workers who live in the Appalachians so she has to keep after them to get anything accomplished.  Hate to characterize an entire group, but they are a bunch that for the most part cannot be counted on. Often late or no-show for work.  I deal with a bunch of them weekly.  Also, they are the type to biatch and moan about the gub'mint as they head off to cash their welfare or disability check.

Apparently they cut the initial episode order from nine to five.

With regard to Ms Parton's ability to take and make a joke, she was on Live with Kelly and Michael (which tells you it was a couple years ago) and they asked her what she does first thing in the morning. Her reply:

"Usually, I get up, find my clothes and go home."

Even Kelly's Botox couldn't stand up to that and I thought Strahan was going to fall out of his chair.

Got damn right she is national treasure.
