IIRC they claimed it was just a name, not intended to indicate length.  I don't remember how it turned out, though.

A few years back, somebody discovered that SafeCo Field had been ripping everyone off with the beer sizes.

Large beers cost extra and came in a bigger cup, but didn't actually have any more beer in them than the small.

SafeCo apologized and said they hadn't been underserving people with large beers, they'd just been over-pouring in the small cups. Ha.

No real point here, except I guess that you should expect to be ripped off when you patron shiatty businesses that specialize in ripping people off.

That is kind of annoying, especially when working with older structures. 2x4 "nominal" is irritatingly mis-dimensioned when used with hundred year old wood.

Problem is that you are not supposed to fill up the small that much so yes the large would fit because the large wasn't filled to the top and when poured into the small it completely filled it when there is no chance you could ever serve that kind of drink.  This was a controversy for idiots.

No it really doesn't, not smaller anyway. Bread expands when it's baked, it doesn't shrink.
If you use a 12 inch pan with enough dough, you're going to get a 12 inch loaf of bread.

The store was just trying to get 3 sandwiches out of each loaf instead of 2.

Oh, it looks like they may have given her a kids' meal size one (potentially by mistake).  Usually they cut a loaf into rough thirds for that.
