My favorite neurological condition: Capgras syndrome -- the belief that people you know have been abducted and replaced with exact duplicates. "You look like my wife, but I know that you're not her."

It is believed to be caused by a miscommunication in the brain between the part of the brain that recognizes people and the part that stores information about how we feel about people. The recognition part gets a hit ("You look like her), but when your brain goes to look up "how do I feel about this person?" it gets no data back. We resolve this distinction by saying "I don't think you're really her."

Sad story that got better. But what is sadder is the sheer amount of people bashing her. Who the hell hurt you apparently, perfectly blessed, people?

"I really learned how to truly surrender to God and have faith and believe that you can overcome the hardest of struggles," he says.

Uh huh. Would you say that is the same god who inflicted those struggles on you in the first place?

It's like with my last stroke, I lost my ability to speak for ten months, and my memories are way off. I underwent testing at the university, I was way off. Finally, bits and pieces are slowly coming back, but I am in therapy for that, The really hard part on having a stroke, is when it's happening, and you are in front of the computer, you can see comprehension of words disappearing before your eyes. My Wife used to yell at me that my brain was scrambled, but I remember all kinds of arcane things, like how many threads per inch are on Ford Mustang trim screws. In fact I had an interview this last week for a network admin job, and was told flat out I was one of the most technically qualified persons they've met. I don't know what the outcome of my issue will be, butI think the prescient fact is that I'm still out there trying. Even tough II can no longer sign my name, my Wife says every once in a while, the old me shines through, but in essence, I'm a different person.

My wife a few years ago was having what can be best described as a mental breakdown; she was juggling a full time and part time job and was in a grad program as well.  She had several episodes where she would dissociate and revert to an earlier time in her life.  Many times it was a period before she met me, so she honestly thought I was a stranger. It was just like the Talking Heads song, and all I could do was try to keep her safe until she came out of it.  She eventually was hospitalized and went through several months of ECT, which turned her memories into Swiss cheese.  I still live in fear of it happening when she gets stressed, so I completely empathize with the guy's wife from  TFA, because that is not fun stuff at all.

Adam and Raquel Gonzales had been together for five years when he woke up one morning with no idea who she was - he had lost all memory of marrying her. But Raquel was determined to win him over again

And THIS is how you can get blowjobs again after 5 years of relationship.  It's brilliant!

Raquel reassured him that this was their home, she was his wife and they had three children together. Adam started to cry.

If I suddenly woke up, remembering nothing, and some moo cow wattled at me that we were married and she had shait out three brats I'd be crying too.

In 2001, at the age of 35, Adam had been a branch manager for telecoms giant AT&T and a devoted church leader in Lubbock, Texas.

Lucky bastard. I wish I could forget my time in Lubbock, Texas.

Alcaste: Raquel was being gentle with Adam - she knew that his memory had failed once before, after a woman tried to kill him.

OUghdegfjasd. Uuuurgh. I can't even imagine having PTSD manifest like that. Holy crap.

Someone I know, her soon to be husband has seizures from a previous severe and deadly former wife when he was married to her. who was finally arrested after the police figured out what caused him to be in a coma for a year due to severe brain injury.  I'm not sure when he passed out . but a hammer, and some other random household items were used in the final attack.  once he was able to recount it.

Said injury resulted in seizures that can cause temporary memory loss or occasionally crossed wires resulting in him naming a loaf of bread a cat, for example. and knowing that cat was the name of that food. I hate to see what he thought the name of the cat was.  and he has ptsd to the point where occasionally he freaks out in the presence of my friend.  Thankfully he's also known her for years. so they're still strong together.

When I saw the headline, I thought the article was possibly going to be about Capgras Syndrome.

Tony Rosato from SCTV and SNL had it.

Why does that sentence sound like it came out of a Harlequin Romance Novel?

I might even be relatively well adjusted and normal if I could.

Nope. Not a good plan. People who don't know the past are doomed to repeat it.

/so I've been told.

Yeah, but maybe next time I'd have the strength to do what I should have done last time. When it can't possibly work out any worse than it has, a 2nd try may be worth a shot.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda. A common tale. Among all of us. I'm guilty of it too.

I know I wouldn't want to go back in past. It hurt the first time, why do it a second time?

My fil started having ministrokes on a regular basis.  His memory is all over the place.  To the point he was bringing old family dark secrets he tried to suppress.

Was my delivery too strong?  My acting coach, Danny Bonaduce, says it's spot on and he coached that Elizabeth from Saved By the Bell.  A household name, she is.

Wait- wasn't Channing Tatum in that one?

I gotta say if I woke up and Channing Tatum was there, telling me he's my husband, it wouldn't really take that much convincing.

I remember this episode of The Twilight Zone.

Identity theft is bad enough, but when it's the Zone doing it, you really have problems.
