So what I gather so far:

- Vault 76, in the mountains of WV
- Takes place in 2101, 175 years before the events of Fallout 3 and 60 years before Fallout 1
- Control vault, the first ones out of a vault (?), may be the ones responsible for rebuilding the wasteland, could have a GECK?
- Could involve the Enclave's first failed attempt to take power?

That's what I understand or have heard speculated so far. This could be good.  It's an interesting premise at least -- the still very wild post-apocalyptic world before any other vaults opened.  I'm excited.

The fact that they released this game so quickly tells me that skepticism is warranted.

One of the articles I saw this morning mentioned multiplayer, but was uncertain if that was a primary or secondary play mode.

I'm excited, but what I'd really love to see is a Fallout crossover with Interstate 76, using a new game engine.

You're going to buy the game and sing it's praises. You will call it the best Fallout game ever. Even better than New Vegas. Your personal and professional relationships will deteriorate because you're playing the game so much.

And then, 250 hours in you have a sudden realization: "Hey! Wait a minute! This is Skyrim! You tricked me into buying another version of Skyrim, Bethesda!"

And then you keep playing because it's Skyrim.

Psychopusher: - Could involve the Enclave's first failed attempt to take power?

Enclave were on the West Coast on an oil rig. Doubtful.

I'm imagining Far Harbor + Point Lookout. Rural, sparsely populated. Vault 76 was set to open after 25 years, at least according to Mothership Zeta from FO3. So maybe it is less Fallout 1 and retrieve a water chip as it is Fallout 2 with the beginnings of Vault City.

The important thing is that the Fallout money keeps paying for new Doom and new Wolfenstein.  And maybe a new Quake game.  Maybe they should make one of those.  No, YOU'RE denying that Quake Champions exists.

WV wouldnt be a very interesting locale. I'm wondering why people would assume it?

First thing that comes to mind when someone says 76 is Philly; and that would feel like a retred of Boston.

But we could have cannibal marauding Eagles fans.... which is apt.

Seems obvious that this Vault is at the Greenbrier in West Virginia.

Just PLEASE. Not an MMO. Not a Battle Royale.
Please, a solid, single player experience with optional, fully supported multiplayer co-op.

If they phone in the single player like they did for 4, I'm easily out. Too many other good games to play than to spend money on an rpg that doesnt eant to be an rpg.

I passed on ES:O, the last DA and ME, everything starwars that isnt lego... I've been in solid 'fark you' mode on the big dev houses for years now and I dont regret it a bit.

Anytime they want to develop a product beyond rehashing, and whatever the fark cheapass shiat + microtransactions they call "online play", Ill be back.

Otherwise.... They can all procedurally generate my radiant middle finger in lieu of a game purchase.

I suspect Fallout 76 will be to Fallout 4 what New Vegas is to Fallout 3.  New setting and story with only a slightly tweaked engine.  They are getting more mileage out of their existing assets while buying time to develop Fallout 5.  Between this and the Summerset expansion for TESO, the Bethesda fans have extra content to distract them until TES6 is ready... Whenever... :/

Descent was a 3D game that had SNES/Sega level quality music. In keeping up with tradition, I demand that the Xbox One version of the game be composed by that same level of music. #MIDIForever

I don't platy multi-player games. It's not fair to the other players. I play games while my main computer is chewing on its rendering jobs. So, sometimes I have an hour to play, and sometimes I have ten minutes. It's a pain in the ass if I'm constantly jumping in and out of a game. (It's not so bad with quick pick-up racing games, but anything that takes teamwork is undoable.)

I think a lot of people are hoping for that. But someone mentions "online" or "multiplayer" and everyone instantly cringes with thoughts of Loot Boxes!: The Game featuring a battle royale mode.
The best thing they could possibly do is just make the Single Player campaign complete, add multiplayer support, so anyone can drop into anyone else's campaign and dick around with them, and add the battle royale mode on top of that. Everyone wins.

I'm thinking that this is going to be a battle royale variant, in that perhaps you're not so much fighting each other as you are fighting the environment/creatures, as you scavenge for supplies before the radiation storms return, forcing you back into the Vault.

Descent 2's music was pretty sick. I used to jam to that a lot on my Walkman. You could also turn on Redbook mode for nostalgia's sake, but that was pretty rough.

They definitely had the OPL3 in mind when they composed the music, yes. The Arachno soundfont sounds pretty nice with it, but still has a little bit too much of that sterile, studio voice quality to it.

If it does happen at the Greenbrier, it's pretty remote. Surrounded by hills and national forest. You've got Roanoke, VA as the closest "city". Might be looking at more of a Far Cry like experience, and swapping coal mines for the the usual subway tunnels full of ghouls.

New Vegas was a bit remote, Vegas itself just being unusually large, so I think it can still work.

Alright, alright, Descent 4 will support every computer input device from the 1990s, just to be on the safe side.  But we're going to compromise: Two-weapon loadouts and we're going to have shields, just like in Halo: Combat Evolved, the FPS that started the whole genre.

As much as I love things like "skill" and "fun", we have to understand that videogaming in the year 2018 is about screaming racist epithets in front of a camera, so we have to make sure the streamer can compete with the pro.

My guess is it will be split across 2 locations. Vault 76 is the Greenbrier and environs for the first half of the game, Philly for the second.
