and $75 million set aside in a trust fund to protect "any future claimants alleging sexual abuse by Larry Nassar,"

Anyone who went to MSU during those years should fill out the forms pronto.

Michigan State University is expected to pay the $500 million out of pocket and then sue their insurance company to get the money back, according to a source with knowledge of the settlement.

That may be a tough suit.  Given the university turning a blind eye to the misbehavior for years it shouldn't be tough for the insurance company to declare that they renewed the policy in bad faith.

$500 million, that is a lot of money!

Oh, divided among 332 victims?

That's sad.

You remember the college football player who dug his hand into the ass of a player on the other team in a display of dominance and one of his teammates defended it as normal athletic intent, if not result?

Every so often we get flashes of just how farked up athletics is, how abuse is normalized and or disregarded. And then when it crops up in one program after another it can only be described as systematic predation.

I'm curious why all the blame for the whole Nasser thing is falling on MSU, while USA Gymnastics seems to be skating away unaffected? They were just as complicit; they paid hush money to at least one of the gymnasts to cover up her allegations against Nasser. They knew the guy was a scumbag and had complaints against him too. Why aren't they also kicking into the payoff fund?

I'd also like to add that the Ingham county assistant prosecutor assigned to the court that oversees MSU, and who failed to prosecute Nasser several times when allegations were made against him, was my high school class president. Its interesting to keep seeing his name in the news just about every time the Nasser thing is mentioned.

USAG has a number of lawsuits against them independent of the MSU lawsuits which is why they're not contributing to the payoff fund.  USAG lost a number of sponsors and many people at the top of resigned.  But they seem to be the ones complicate in the cover.  The people at USAG who knew and said nothing about Nasser should be under criminal investigation.

That's how all the extra stuff about Penn State came out, the insurance company was like "hey what about this part here where someone told Paterno about it in 1976"

It was less turning a blind eye and more being taken in by a master manipulator.
