How does a single mother who washes dishes afford to do this?

I pretty much came into agreement years ago that there are just some things I will never do in life... become an elected official, probably will never bowl a 300 game and I will never make it up Everest.

Good on her. She's up for K2 next year, a significantly larger challenge. I wish her all the best.

Oh, she's a sherpa.

The "executive assistant" to the white men who do the actual climbing after the trails are roped and the equipment is hauled up the mountain.

Yawn.

Fresh as a daisy, I'd imagine.   The folks that die up there don't rot, they freeze.  George Mallory is still up there with his ass hanging out in the breeze.

You can GIS it.  Posting gets a vacation from the mods, though.

As it turns out of you can climb that MF a bunch of times you can get sponsored.

No interest in Everett and I think it's gotten out of control but she's a freakin' sherpa- they get a pass. Also, she's a complete badass and has a refreshing attitude.

Actually, they buried Mallory's body on the mountain in 1999 after it was discovered. I believe there was talk at one point of retrieving the remains and bringing them back to England, but his family objected and said to just leave him there where he fell.

What I found interesting is how Hillary always claimed he was the first reach the summit because there was no proof that Mallory and Irvine made it up there in 23. Then they found Mallory's body with his wallet intact, and the only thing missing from it was a picture of his wife he intended to leave at the summit. All a sudden, Hillary changed his tune and claimed that he was still the first to reach the top because "you can't call it a successful summit if you don't come back down from it." He basically went from being absolutely certain he reached the top first to being technically correct about it (the best kind of correct).

My dishwasher was also made in Connecticut.  How does she carry it up the mountain?

The same way other single mom's pay for things way out of their jobs price range, have their ex pay for it,  well for the first 5 trips.  The more recent trips have been sponsored by companies and her brothers climbing expedition group for gear and some money.

Exactly. As with women everywhere, she does all the hard work before the white men show up to take credit.

FTA: "One year she climbed Everest just eight months after giving birth, and another when she was two months pregnant. "

I'm glad to hear that.   His death pose was more than a bit undignified, particularly given what the dude accomplished.
