What a horrific death. Almost as bad as being chihuahuaed to death.

I'm thinking murdered beforehand and fed to the dogs to cover up the crime.  It's rural Oklahoma so they probably don't have the best forensics, and probably don't care if some fellow redneck murders a Hispanic lady anyway.

This.

Sure there were seven, but none taller than a knee. I have two dogs both about knee height, only slightly taller. They both excitedly jump on me when I get home. I've never been close to being knocked down. And Archie, we think, is Jack Russell/pit mix and extremely muscular. See...

I dunno. You can punt those farkers a good long ways.
I love dogs. Except for 2. Chihuahuas and pomeranians.
Chihuahuas just because they are little assholes. Far more than any other breed. Pomeranians because they always have that stupid smile. Like they have no farking clue what is going on, so they smile to try to play along like they get the joke.

My mom is a big animal lover and has had various dogs, cats, farm animals over the course of her life.
But, she has an irrational hate for dachshunds because back in 1972 a neighbor's dachshund killed an entire litter of kittens her cat had a few weeks before.

I've tried to keep this loathing from tainting my way of thinking, but I admit I do give the little suckers the sketchy eye when I see one.

It sounds like these dogs were living feral in the woods. She was probably just walking, they charged and knocked her down. They probably could not have done it if there were not 7 of them.
The owner of the dogs is completely at fault for letting their dogs get so feral that they attacked and killed a neighbor. I hope he/she is charged with something.

Don't ever forget that a full sized Dachshund was bred to tangle with one of natures meanest, toughest creatures on their home turf, the Badger.

My father told me a story once of a friend of his who had a full sized Dachshund, which weighs in at about 40 lbs or so, that got in a fight with a pit bull. They heard the noise and went outside to find the Dachshund lying on its side, covered in blood, breathing heavy but the other dog gone (a hole in the fence).

So, super concerned, they bring the dog inside and wash it very carefully. Not a scratch. Later, the neighbor came over raging to them about his farked up dog. Turns out the dachshund had wriggled around the bull and neatly snipped the tendons in the dog's legs.

Don't underestimate an animal bred to hunt badgers.

Dachshunds and penguins are the two animals on earth that I can think of that look look noble and amusing at the same time. The more in motion they are, the greater the amusement. The more still they are, the increase in nobility.

As I said upthread, I've got two (both minis at about 12lbs each). They are absolutely fearless. Took the older one to Dog Beach in San Diego one time and a young, but very large Rottweiler came bounding up to us to play and that psycho weiner dog of mine lit into him like he owed her money.  This thing shiats bigger than my dog and she just DGAF! Poor Rott about turned himself inside out trying to get away. I quickly put my mutt back on her leash and got the hell out of there for the safety of everybody and everydog.

Original dachshunds were bred to run boar. Teckel hounds. Dachshunds were from that bred to go underground and bring game lower to ground.

I have a 40lb and 24lb standard. They could take and kill anything, but won't. Even if my life depended on it.

You should meet my Pomeranian. Terrified puppy-mill rescue turned into a perfect little monster. No yapping, no desire to be picked up, she just wants eye contact and verbal acknowledgement. She is also the smartest dog of my pack. She sits, observes, thinks, and gives stink eye when needed.

Her hunting technique also developed into grabbing critters and throwing them to my corgi/JRT mix for thrashing/dispatch. If the critter is a bird, she WILL start devouring once it is "done."

I admit that I doubt I will get another Pom after this one. I got her because I could see the brains and wheels turning in two photos, and knew that I needed her.

Well they said most were dachsunds, but there was one up to knee height.  Which is more 'medium' sized.  A dog that's out for your blood can put a ton more force and effort into you than one that's super excited to see you come home and jumps on you.

My guess is it wasn't the dachsunds that knocked her over, but the bigger one.

I e got two mini's.  The oldest is close to 28lb and is a fearless.  He loves only one member of my family and will defend him with his life.  The rest of us, well we are sol.

My youngest is about 12lbs and suffered a pretty bad back injury (I think because of me) two christmases ago.  These days he's happy to be eaten alive by our couch.

As the parent of a chihuahua, may I recommend guns, lots of guns. Don't go in thinking you won't need 'em.

Dachshunds are pretty much muscle freaks right up there with pits, especially if you get a crossbreed and they're bigger.  Just to carry their type of body properly they get pretty damn strong.  Have a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix that is quite literally strong enough to get out of my grasp if she really wants to, regardless of how hard I try to hold her.  She's only 20-some pounds, and I'm not built like a stick.  They and their crossbreeds are little 800 pound gorillas, they WILL surprise you with how strong they are.

We should never be instruments of a painful, frightening death upon an innocent. Due to obvious neglect, several of my own kind were conditioned to go further than we're supposed to ... a jumping mini-chomp on the hiney, for instance, or a poop in a visitor's RV. But not this. The owner should face the harshest justice the law will allow - and maybe then some.

R.I.P. Ms. Garcia. I'm so sorry.

Haha....you've never met a Jack Russell. Of course, I'm prepared for the jumping and brace myself. If it matters both shelters we got them from listed them as large dogs.

This dog will run on the back cushions of the couch. And I'm not talking on top of them, he's so fast and crazy he defies gravity. He can also jump sideways into the couch from a standstill. So, much energy and agility.

From another article:
As first responders on the scene tried to help the woman, the dogs turned on them.
"Unfortunately, yes. We had to shoot one dog," said Bryant. "It did charge our deputies and to protect our deputies, as well as the medical personnel, we did have to put down a dog."
The woman was rushed to the hospital where she passed away.

So it was the dogs, there were witnesses. Still seems bizarre that something that low to the ground could outright kill an adult, but I guess it's reasonable for them to tear at your legs until you fall over.

I guess when relating the tale of how your great aunt died, say she was killed by a pack of dogs, and leave out the bit about them being dachshunds, just to give that poor woman some dignity.
