The event is called a "meteotsunami," and as opposed to the wave events caused by earthquakes, these are instead caused by fast-moving storms.

So .... storm surge?

Weather related.  Not east coast storm related.

So we had a pretty good hail storm roll through northern Colorado Monday afternoon.  This was my drive through the aftermath Tuesday morning (at least 12 hours after the hail storm):

And this was the view Tuesday afternoon of the area that got the hail (after a nice day that was 70 degrees):

The white patch is the area where the hail had still not melted.  The area the hail fell in was very defined.  Apparently they called the snow plows out to clear the interstate during the storm as well.  I've seen some interesting weather up where I live, but this was a pretty odd one.

Radioactive Ass: When did we rename a storm surge into a MetroTsunami?

'Cept a strom surge is water being pushed in by the wind, whereas a meteotsunami is the result of oscillation caused by two surges passing each other and aiding and subtracting their heights.
