What a waste of oxygen.

If nurses are going to give you medical care, stop carrying on with the same vices that put you here and are negating all of their efforts to heal you. Either make the effort to get better and live longer that you signed up for, or stay home and smoke til' you croak.

We have to test our oxygen concentrators to make sure that if a cannula catches fire the flame cannot burn back into the device. You would be surprised at how far up inside the tube the fire is when it is getting 3 liters per minute of 93% pure oxygen. You would be shocked at how bright the flame is at 15 LPM.

Can't you make the tubes non-flamable (even with pure oxygen)?  Or is a pressure issue (so absolutely no fuel creeps in)?  Oxygen is weird in that we normally think of fuel burning in an atmospheric oxidizer, while oxygen comes along ready to oxidize anything it sees.

drxym: Marketing idea - cannisters of O2 that administer a continuous dose of nicotine so dipshiats don't experience the urge to light up.

Non-dipshiats could simply get a patch (no idea about prescriptions, seems to me "to not blow yourself up" should be enough of a reason, but for every dipshiat, there is a worse dipshiat in the FDA).

The Tobacco Institute pretty much morphed into the climate denialists we know today, and pioneered all the bullshiat needed (along with creationists and holocaust deniers) for the all-out war on facts we have right now.  They have more blood on their hands than all those people who gave themselves cancer between 1950-1990 and those who keep blowing themselves up.

To be fair, a lot of the people on oxygen from cigarette smoking got hooked before the big push on the health problems with smoking.  Addicts do stupid things because of their addiction.  It's pretty common for people on oxygen to still be smokers.  Personally, I think maybe we need to put some more restrictions on smokers with oxygen.  We've got one in the next apartment building over... she could take out the building if things went really badly.  I'd be fine with using some of that tobacco settlement money for rehab for smokers.

2-1/2 packs a day for 13 years and quit cold turkey almost 20 years ago.

It is going to suck for 3-4 weeks. Drink as much water as you can stand. Get your respiration rate up as often as possible. Cough up those lung-oysters and pee away the rest.

Get ready for things to taste different in a few weeks.

A few months from now you'll still be thinking about them, but not craving them.

A year from now you'll be able to smell a smoker from 10 yards away.

I quit a while ago. It was "easy" because I was no longer around people who smoked and, AFAIK, I didn't have the same level of addiction I've heard about from others. If going cold turkey doesn't work, there's still the option of cutting back via social or environmental pressure (deliberately spending much of your time with people who don't smoke in places where you can't smoke). IIRC, smoking one cigarette a day is about the cutoff for when medical problems manifest. That's assuming you currently don't have medical problems.
