My father still tells me stories of when they still had the booze car. I'm not sure how people actually made it to work, to be honest.

We need to cut off Long Island from the rest of America.

About 10 years ago on the North Jersey Coast Line we had a older white woman (Spring Lake upcrust) go off on a Pakistani couple calling them dogs and whatnot, around ten of us in the train car stood up and surrounded her calling her a racist and to stop or we'd throw her off at the next stop. She STFU and moved along to another car after we scared the shiat out of her. The rest of the train car were so proud of us they gave us all a good clap.

New Yorkers have an almost casual racism about them.  A New Yorker friend of mine, doesn't consider herself a racist, yet will go off on Jews like it's her job to do so.  I went somewhere with her on a Sunday and she wouldn't shut up about the Jews being their with their families.  She even gave them back-stories...

That they did!!! Then had their three martini lunches to maintain and not crash for the day.

The men who built America... Mad Men, if you will.

I'm from and live on Long Island and I couldn't agree with you any more on your statement.

Just because somebody tries to make America great again, libs want to call that person a racist.  Sad!

I haven't been on the MetroNorth in a decade  but it still had the bar car in 2007.  I can't see a reason why lirr would be any different.

You don't know who your mother or your father is because you're a ... monkey, that's why."

I think there's a rapper out there setting this to a sample of Led Zepplin music as I type.

I don't like commuting on the LIRR into the city.

One day I was invited for a job off of 33rd west. One block away from Penn Station so I considered taking the job.

All I had to do was show up for the interview and the job was mine. (sure thing)

So I put on my Sunday best, get on the Ronkonkoma line to Penn. The train was crowded and the only seat available was mine by the time we made it to Woodside. Just then, a bum gets on, finds the empty seat next to me and then proceeds to piss in his pants. It gets on the bench seat and now I can smell it and it leaked over to my seat. Now I'm not happy.

The train rolls into Penn and I clean up best I could. Walk over to the interview and tell the nice gentleman that I wouldn't be taking the job. I just couldn't justify being pissed on again.

I think there are still booze cars. I know on special holidays and events like St Paddy's and whatnot, the LIRR removes them from the line to prevent any really drunkenness and safety for it's passengers.

Yep. I prefer to despise people based on their own lack of merit, their own character flaws. Racism would deprive me of the funnest parts of my hatred.

Well, someone has to.  She's so nuts, she alienates pretty much everyone.  She's not a bad person but she was raised by just the worst mother.  They had a lot of them in New York in the sixties and seventies.

The important thing when you are friends with someone that damaged is to set boundaries and maintain them strictly.

The fact that he calls her racist names - or brings race into it at all - apparently makes this not at all a story involving racism for doubled99.

I'm surprised the guy wasn't wearing his red cap, I guess he left it at home.

I'm not saying the guy is not a racist - BUT - if you're white and not racist, just ultra-competitive, and you really want to win a shouting match with a black person, going with the monkey angle is the obvious nuclear option, but like, Little Boy level, because it's still devastatingly offensive, but not very sophisticated by modern insult standards.

Finding the racism in this story is like finding salt water while swimming the English Channel. It's like finding pine needles in a forest of pine  trees. It's like finding a liar in the Trump administration. It's like finding mosquitoes on a July evening on a lake in Minnesota. It's like finding a stupid comment in a fark politics thread.

So true. One of the things that really struck when I moved here is that New Yorkers can be both cosmopolitan and intensely parochial, often in a single sentence.

I find it best to er, bring a hidden flask or hide it from the conductors myself when they ban the booze. I mean, its bad enough one has to deal with the LIRR to begin with. A little booze makes the trip more "enjoyable", for lack of a better term....

This last one, especially.  I mean seriously, this is about as racist as it gets.  He told her she didn't know who were father and mother were, for Chrissakes.  that guy desperately needs a can of whoop-ass opened in his face.

Haven't owned any, but I did ride in an AMC Pacer and an AMC Eagle (and learned to drive in an AMC Hornet).

The one car on that list that I kinda wanted at one time was a VW Thing.  Just so farkin' utilitarian.  If I hadn't gotten a Triumph Spitfire while in Hawaii, I probably would have gotten a Kubelwagen.
