Well, when you cash the multi-million dollar checks, you sorta agree to a bunch of rules. Or don't take the paycheck! That's what my boss keeps telling me. I like my check more than I dislike the riles.

Since she brought it up, though, it sounds more like they don't want a diva than she doesn't want to be on the show. Otherwise, why diss the hand that fed you?

I listened to the first single last night. It's terrible.

As somebody said upthread, this woman has PIPES, and she doesn't even sing.

Kanye West produced, and it's just a swing and a miss.

I read the headline and I was all ready to snark the shiznit out of this thing... but then I looked at what she's actually saying and, I hate to admit it, she nay have a point.

Of course these shows manufacture "moments" and "storylines" -- at the end of the day, it's a product that has to play the ratings game. But there's a balance between that and finding an actual singer who will have a life after the finale, if the show is to have any longevity. And if the show is telling the female judges they have to dress and talk a certain way, while allowing Adam and Blake to do their Good Ol' Bro schtick, yeah, she should say so.

BTW, am I the only one who has trouble telling the difference between Christina Aguilera and Christina Applegate?

Many of the best singers the music have promoted would never have made it past the first round of these so-called talent-hunt shows. They're bogus and anyone who follows them is a sucker.

/also, someone who is good at singing and a singing coach aren't the same thing.
//That is if they have people who are good at singing to begin with.

I regret that I have but one like to give.  This is what infuriates me about the show - their best (and repeated) coaching advice is to "make it your own."  That has literally nothing to do with coaching someone to be a better singer, or even a better performer.  That's something the idiot producer tells you.

Very few of the contestants on these shows have gone on to have any kind of real entertainment career.

Kelly Clarkson
Clay Aiken
Jennifer Hudson
Carrie Underwood
Scotty McCreery
Katharine McPhee

Off the top of my head.

Britney Spears, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Usher, and Alanis Morrisette all appeared on that show too but I don't know if I'd credit the show with any contribution to their success.

Well, to be fair, I thought Christina Grimmie (she was a finalist on that show) was pretty damn good.  Tragically, a sick, obsessed, twisted fark killed her after one of her concerts back in 2016.

It's kind of an issue with communicating ideas. A trial I've been having is that I have gotten good enough at art for people to come to me and ask for feedback, but all I can really give them is either "Work on the fundamentals" or tell them my way of doing or learning things. "Make it your own" generally means "Develop your own style  so that people can associate your work with you and not someone else," but I do agree that it is unhelpful advice because a beginner isn't going to have any idea what that means. That's a more intermediate skill.

/Probably doesn't help that the current batch of mainstream "musicians" are generally illiterate, maybe even less then the general population.

I'm glad she won't be back. And I'm pretty sure that what she meant is that the show is TV moments that aren't about ""her"".  I watch the show and can't remember her ever actually coaching or advising any of her contestants. Instead what she does is wait for one of the singers to try a run and then she helpfully suggests "Try it like this" and does one of the runs she puts in all her songs. Then after the contestants or judges have said "wow" with sufficient enthusiasm she goes back to ignoring them.

Ironically, neither is the genre you're asociated with. You probably should have realized this before the first episode was shot.

I've never gotten a job as Chief Puppy Strangler at Puppy Stranglers Incorporated and left years later exclaiming, "You wouldn't believe what they made me do!"
