I've been surprised to see how quickly the evangelical support is evaporating.  the leaders might not care about Donny raw dogging a porn star, but apparently the rank and file actually believe in the whole 'adultery is a sin' thing and they just can't bridge the gap between theology and political expediency.  hence the panic from McConnell - one of his major money sources is drying up on him just when he needs it most.

And given trump's trade war debacle, the rich people aren't thrilled with the market chaos and loss of revenue that's coming their way because Trump can't even keep his bribes straight.  so they're not supporting the GOP anymore either.

Trump's insulted the military, offended gold star widows, and trying to put a drug pushing drunk in charge of the VA with the ultimate goal of outsourcing VA care to a heartless corporation who's going to just cut services and kill off elderly vets.  so there goes the support of the military.

Trump is systematically attacking each of the pillars of traditional GOP support, all while pushing bad foreign policy, worse domestic policy, encouraging political and economic chaos and basically being a rich, vain, out of touch narcissistic asshole to everyone around him.  no wonder McConnell is worried.  he's got zero support, and once he's no longer in the majority he knows the Democrats will pig f*ck the shiat out of everything the GOP has done since taking over Congress....and he can't stand it.  But he also can't stop it either.

he should have been worried over 6 months ago...but my read on McConnell is that he's really not very bright.  a weak, vain, arrogant bully who believes his own pressers....and just now realized how f*cked he is, and its FAR too late for him to do anything about it.

McConnell knows what's going to happen to him once the Dems retake Congress.

I think McConnell really, honestly thought the GOP was lock solid gonna win hands down...he didn't believe the 'fake news' and ignored facts he didn't like to hear about.  now he's doing final prep for mid terms and it hit home that the 'fake news' wasn't fake after all and his party is about to get their asses kicked hard all the way down the line.

McConnell isn't anything like a leader either, don't forget.  he's not respected, he's made a LOT of enemies on both sides, and he's used the power of his position like a thug to shove things out of the way and ignore both the culture and history of the institution he nominally leads.  he didn't see this coming until just recently....and now its far too late to stop it.

He'd best stock up on adult diapers, because he's going to be crapping his pants a lot over the next couple of months.

yeah, fox news ain't doing so hot either.  with Ingraham weakened and Hannity now exposed as a lying scumbag, NOBODY is taking that organization seriously.  they're losing advertisers, and have zero credibility anywhere.

As shyat as things are, I sometimes think in the back of my mind that if things shake out Donnie might be the best thing to ever happen.

Oh sure, things right now are balls and they will be for a good while to come, but at the end of this BillO is off the air and Hannity is looking at getting kicked off soon, and an entire generation will likely never vote GOP.

I'm totally counting chickens, but if this shakes out and we can white knuckle and grit out teeth to the end, the future might be pretty bright.

That, or enough of the country is farkered and I need to find someplace that isn't BibleJesusLand to live so I can live in not an impoverished first world nation that lacks basic essentials like internet, healthcare and retirement plans.

also - the prevailing mythology of our culture is 'fight the power'.  trump and the GOP have set themselves up as the Evil Empire.  the rest kinda falls into place from there.

You mean nothing? Because when the democrats are in power they will lose a spine, try to be diplomats and get nothing done again, or at best make small repairs just in time for the republicans to retake congress and start it all over again.

yeah, democrats who are more fired up than I have *EVER* seen before in my life.  they know that if they don't smash the GOP down hard, they'll never get another shot at this.  McConnell made this personal.  he shoved a lot of crap into people's faces....he didn't just do this as his day job, he and his buddies went out of their way to personally piss in everyone's beer, and make them drink it down.

i'm betting a lot of what's going to happen to congress will have more to do with McConnell being a complete f*cktard than anything ideological.  Senators are gotdamn f*cking PISSED OFF at McConnell on a direct, personal basis and personal revenge can be a very powerful motivation.

so lets see how it shakes out before we start complaining about the Democrats.  if nothing else, throwing every Republican out of office is a damn good place to start.  if the Dems slack off, we can still kick their asses for later.

yup.

McConnell went too far even with his own party.  he's actually managed to make enemies on BOTH sides...and once you do that, well....don't f*ck up or show weakness ever again or the sharks WILL eat you alive.

I think McConnell just now figured out how weak his position really is, and he's worried.  not about the Democrats....but about all the toes he's smashed in his mad quest for power and control.  hes just not sure who's going to stab him in the back first is all.
