Tonight, Friday, July 7, we will be making a trip out to our co-lo to do some hardware maintenance on Fark's servers. Mostly this maintenance is to add hard drive hot-swap shelves to the machines that don't already have them, so future RAID drive failures can be taken care of much faster. As part of that, we're going to be replacing ALL the hard drives on our database servers with bigger ones, which means we have to rebuild all the RAID arrays. We'll also be doing some firmware and BIOS updates, and testing out some new disaster recovery tools, but those don't take very long. :) So, at various times you'll see the following problems: - A total database outage, meaning only the main pages of Fark and Foobies will work. Comments will not work. Totalfark's main page will not work. This outage could be as long as an hour or two. After that, the things you'll notice get a lot less severe: - Main pages of Fark, Totalfark, and Foobies not updating every 2 minutes. Links submitted to Totalfark will show up after maintenance is finished (they won't be rejected, they'll just be delayed). This shouldn't happen for longer than 30 minutes.
