THAT'S NOT IN PHILLY THAT'S OUTSIDE THE CITY

2012-09-13 01:45:38 AM
Going to the Beavers game on 10/06. :-( I'll drink a beer or two at halftime for y'all, though!

2012-09-13 02:04:47 AM
This girl!!!

2012-09-13 02:07:19 AM
In Corvallis, don't know if I can make it though I would love to.

2012-09-13 02:10:31 AM
Sellwood? Hell, I can't even give it away!

2012-09-13 02:13:01 AM
I'm down. In Springfield but it's an excuse to come to the city.

2012-09-13 02:27:13 AM
Where, exactly, will you be? Love to join you after work, perfect start to the weekend!

2012-09-13 02:33:04 AM
Should be in Portland then, Count me in.

2012-09-13 02:57:22 AM
I'm down. Any ideas on locations?

2012-09-13 03:17:19 AM
Woot! A party while I'm actually living nearby! If I'm not having to work I'll go.
Also, if you're riding a bike around SE tonight, be careful. Some maniac in a red four door Honda or Toyota type sedan with CA plates just ran me down on my bike @ 16th and Ankeny on the bike route while I was riding home from work. I'm fine, but he trashed my bike and sped off.
Be careful out there PDXers.

2012-09-13 03:31:51 AM
Not that I even live there but this would probably work better with details.

2012-09-13 03:39:30 AM
Yikes, can I create an alt and use that on my nametag? If so I'm in. Also that's walking distance from my place by PSU. I'll hit Bushwacker on my way down and get some delicious ciders.

2012-09-13 03:42:46 AM
I might be. I would be a few hours late coming from work, but I'm a recent transplant, and it would be nice to meet some local farkers.

2012-09-13 03:56:04 AM
I'm down for it.

2012-09-13 04:26:15 AM
I can make it. Went to my first Fark gathering 7 years ago when I first moved here. About time for a second, I should think.

2012-09-13 04:36:19 AM
I'll be there

2012-09-13 04:51:29 AM
Is Sellwood Bob going to be there? I love that guy!

/Sadly, I'm 1,750 miles away :(
//But seriously, Sellwood Bob has done some amazing stuff...

2012-09-13 05:17:49 AM
Very likely.
If I don't forget.

2012-09-13 08:18:14 AM
Lessee... ride west on Ankeny (Achy Knee?) to the Esplanade, then to Spring Water Trail next to Oaks Bottom and up the steep hill by the Sellwood Bridge. I guess I can bike that. Details?

2012-09-13 08:27:18 AM

illannoyin: Sellwood? Hell, I can't even give it away!

Ha.

Is this at a strip club? Video Poker? Where subby?

there goes my invite

2012-09-13 10:03:47 AM
and half of all attendees depending on the political leanings of op. I don't know why sellwood, but there's plenty of bars...

2012-09-13 10:24:02 AM
Nope, got my own party that day. Don't drink any fizzy yellow beer (except PBR, of course).

2012-09-13 10:39:54 AM
Could be interesting.

2012-09-13 11:25:57 AM
Oh, oh pick me! Pick me!!

2012-09-13 12:26:48 PM
OK, But Whar?

2012-09-13 01:29:14 PM
If I don't have a business meeting - count me in. Do I bring a side dish?

2012-09-13 04:03:45 PM
Count me in for 2

2012-09-13 04:44:08 PM
Woo-hoo! I have the night off. I'm in.

2012-09-13 05:28:56 PM
You know - we could always hijack Gigantic brewing next to Reed so it's right near Sellwood.. They're never that busy and that would save someone from hosting.

2012-09-13 05:53:47 PM
I can probably come, but I'm running the marathon the next day.

2012-09-13 06:30:00 PM
You mean 4tehsnowflakes would be interacting with actual humans? Sounds difficult

2012-09-13 07:12:40 PM
Where? A home? A bar? A bar in a home? A home in a bar? I'm just asking questions here people.

/will probably attend.
//be gentle, it's my first Fark Party.

2012-09-14 03:08:01 AM
Indeed, if the eve finds me off my work, this might bring me out to interact with humans. Besides the normal interacting I do. Does this be hopeful-y good. ?

2012-09-22 08:20:05 PM
I'm interested!

2012-09-22 08:47:13 PM
Okay, I can probably swing the 6th.

As I said in the other Sellwood Fark Party thread, it would be rude of me not to come since I live in the neighborhood.

2012-09-22 08:50:34 PM
Very possibly.

2012-09-22 09:00:51 PM
Who is on first....

2012-09-22 09:07:45 PM
I'll be there

2012-09-22 09:14:47 PM
Count me in. Seems like it's been a decade since the last one.

2012-09-22 09:22:32 PM
ah fark yea! FINALLY A FARK PARTY IN PORTLAND!!!!!

2012-09-22 09:37:03 PM
Jesus, Fark party galore.

2012-09-22 09:52:49 PM

Ingaba: Jesus, Fark party galore.

I'd been thinking about it for a bit, and finally thought of doing it when I saw how many Portland Farkers there were in a Portland thread, and that other cities were having them, so I figured ask the bar with a big balled squirrel as their Trivia trophy if we could do it there.

2012-09-22 10:08:51 PM
Sellwood? I'm in.

/Coming from the 'Couve.

Not really a good idea. At a bar you're checked to ensure you're 21 or over. That would be difficult for a homeowner to do and they'd be in a world of hurt for furnishing alcohol to minors. Plus you're also in danger of a neighbor calling the police if things get too loud and rowdy.

That was my thinking. I also considered getting permits for beer/wine and having a BYOB Fark-B-Q at a city park but it was getting too late in the summer to plan for good weather.

If this goes well I'll definitely be willing to plan a Portland Fark-B-Q next summer. I love an excuse to drink beer and play some kickball.

Heh! Sounds like a good plan. Besides, no one wants a bunch of basement dwelling farkers in their home. :-D

Is there decent parking around there? I love near PSU but that is a pretty decent walk.

Street parking only so you may have to walk a little. I also should mention, it's up a flight of stairs if I hadn't already.

/so maybe?

2012-09-23 03:25:19 AM
Damnit! The one time I see a Fark party in my town, I am of course not IN my town. D'oh!!

2012-09-23 03:28:59 AM
I don't drink beer (more for everyone else), but what the heck, I'm in!

They have good food (I think), and some fresh-pressed N/A juice drinks as well. You'll have an advantage if you want to play some darts or air hockey or something against other Farkers as well.

Re possible loss of anonymity from attending, let me say that if I did get the bars loosened enough to crawl out the window of my Mom's basement and get to this pub in Sellwood, you would know me by my tinfoil hat. So first, there is a possibility that your postings here have been so edgy that you have been identified by the G as a threatening person. Said G may or may not then have spent some taxpayer money trying to identify you as the poster using various agencies and means, about all of which you, Citizen, need not concern yourself. Failing however due to your clever use of cloaking technologies and your impenetrable web of shifting aliases, the enemy has decided to send undercover agents posing as beer-guzzling nerdbots into the heart of dphogan's little gathering. Expect everything you say at the venue to be recorded in HD video and digital audio, with the whole then subjected to facial recognition and voice recognition analysis.

Seriously though, if none of the above is true then maybe you should not be overly concerned about it. I'm sure you can put any name you want on your nametags ... easier than creating a fark alt ... or declare yourself and yr partner exempt from the nametag requirement.

I post under my real name here, so if anyone's that worried about it... Well... I dunno what to say other than I'll buy some nametags, but I don't expect people to wear them.

2012-09-29 08:50:10 PM
Uh, maybe. Wife's got a shoot and I'm a recluse. However, my parole officer has been telling me I need to get out more and meet people. Might as well be other Farkers. Baby steps...

2012-09-29 09:02:30 PM
AAAHHHHH good ole Sellwood, the child molester capital of the great northwest.

2012-09-29 09:26:24 PM
And on the East side no less. I guess if it was on the westside we'd all be chugging mer-lot. (See what I did there, what with the E/W "best side of the river thing?).

Is it a school night?

I hope a sobriety date doesn't hinder Fark revelry, or I am going on "super-screwed" years and a few odd days.

Mostly odd days, hence the glorious years wasted on Fark!

2012-09-29 09:45:48 PM
I'll be hitting up the Wedge cheese and beer expo before hand, but should be there shortly thereafter.

2012-09-29 11:17:41 PM
In!

/comin from the 'tron myself

2012-09-30 12:05:04 AM
Its quite possible that Mr.QD and myself could make it. We may be in PDX that weekend anyways. We live near Corvallis.

2012-09-30 12:05:46 AM
I better get to rolling.

We Twin Cities Farkers pulled off an amazingly fun and great Farknic this year and even raised some scratch for The Wayne Foundation. It can be done but it helps a lot if you have semi-regular Fark Parties to begin with so that you know a good portion of the people and what they're like. Also, having somewhat designated (loose knit sort of one is what we have) people who tend to take care of planning and whatnot for the majority of Fark parties helps. Things like email lists, etc. help out immensely.

/posting here because I am a former Oregon resident
//tried five years ago to get a Fark party going
///good luck

2012-09-30 02:07:01 AM
I might drop in for a pint if I'm able. Will there be Fark nametags??

2012-09-30 11:54:34 AM
Oh no! I just found out a friend in Alaska is having knee replacement surgery and needs me to take care of him (hey, free trip to Alaska, right?) but guess what day I leave. So you guys will be getting pleasantly intoxicated in Sellwood during the second Fark party in Portland's history and at the same time I'll be getting a rectal exam at PDX so I'll be considered safe to board an airplane. *sniffle*

2012-09-30 11:59:00 AM
I'm in. Location?

2012-09-30 12:37:05 PM
I'm in. Crazy close to my house.

Anyone who bikes around the city, the Springwater Corridor goes out to Sellwood and there's a bike corridor on Spokane (that leads up to 13th). Not a bad ride out to our 'hood if it's clear.

2012-10-02 09:30:59 PM
Time? Or just whenever?

2012-10-02 10:59:40 PM

knowless: Time? Or just whenever?

My wife keeps hassling me for this info as well.

2012-10-03 01:18:25 AM

knowless: Time? Or just whenever?

Officially, 7-10. Unofficially... Happy hour is 3-6. I was planning on being there by 5:30 to grab a happy hour well drink and maybe some happy hour food ($1 off anything except pizza) before 6, so if anyone wants to start before 7 I'm in.

I'd love to get an approximate headcount to the owners so they can make sure they've got enough staff working, so if people want to email me (davidphogan at gmail dot com) or post here by Friday that could help make things go a lot smoother. A maybe is fine, or if you think you can't and show up anyway, that's awesome. I'd just love to give them a "final" estimate so that they can have enough staff on hand.

Guests are welcome as well of course, but I also want to remind everyone that the location is 21+ ONLY. They can't look the other way with how the OLCC is, so I'm sorry if that excludes anyone but I just want to make sure it was repeated.

If this works out, I'd love to find a spot to do a Portland Fark-B-Q (it's really easy to get beer/wine/bbq permits for many city parks) next spring/summer. Hell, if people wanted to, we could do a winter one. I don't think we'd need to worry about the parks being booked solid, but a kickball game might be a bit messy.

2012-10-04 10:37:03 PM
So we'll be 2. Prolly show up between 6 and 7.

2012-10-05 08:09:11 PM
I will try to be there between 6 and 7, then.

2012-10-05 08:12:04 PM
Put me down as a maybe. This is pretty cool, just three blocks from my house.

2012-10-05 08:13:06 PM
I'm guessing under 20 but who knows.

2012-10-05 08:19:15 PM
I hope you folks have a great time. If you are on the fence about going and you are in the area- just .do. it. Fark parties are fun things . I am way too far south, like 1k miles ,but i would go.
Live a little and meet new folks !

I'm still in. Getting there for a happy hour drink sounds like a good idea. See you around 5-5:30. Plan to wear my black Cylon t-shirt so I should be easy to spot.

Well, it's a Fark gathering so let's not rule anything out just yet.
I'm a definite maybe + 2 in tow.

If people want a butt-chugging event we probably need to book at Casa Diablo.

Gonna be bringing the wife sometime after 6. I'll be sure to sit in the corner and stare creepily at everybody while saying nothing.

shiat. Just left Portland.

Sellwood-Moreland Pizza still exists, I see. This is a good thing. I remember when their owner got busted for heroin in '89.

I don't think Portland is very close to Tennessee, is it?

Sellwood Public House. It's in the link and the thread.

Laid off last month + No car right now + Leaking hole in bathroom floor = No way can we make it.

Assuming there's interest I'd be happy to get the permit from Portland to use a city park with a beer and wine day license for a Fark-B-Q in the spring. Beer, sunshine, kickball and Fark seems like it would be a fun mix. =)

I would really like meeting other Farkers. There's an interesting mix of people here, but I don't go in the politics tab o_0

Hopefully by spring I will be employed again. I think it would be fun.

I might have time to stop for a quickie .. beer .. and them am otherwise already doublebooked.

ComicBookGuy: Sellwood-Moreland Pizza still exists, I see. This is a good thing. I remember when their owner got busted for heroin in '89.

I've tried to Google it. What's Sellwood-Moreland Pizza?

I'd take the drive in from the mountain, but I'd be surrendering my anonymity, and once you found out I'm a 24-year-old sex goddess posing as a grumpy old man, you'd never take me seriously on the Pol Tab again.

Yep I'm in, nothing much going on here.

Was working on building a new 'puter but a HDD is DOA. You'd think spending $2,900 on a system that everything would work.

mebbe. I just payed rent though, so I'm pretty broke.

My first Fark Party! Will be there.

I swing by!

2012-10-06 02:32:48 PM
Bah! I can't make it. Ducks/Huskies is tonight, partying with my old frat brothers.

Have fun, fellow PDXers.

I'd definitely come to a spring Fark-B-Q!

By entering the bar, you agree to accept the Sellwood Fark Party Terms of Service, an impenetrable 17,000 word thicket of obfuscation and trickery the complete text of which can be found only in Tagalog. I'll summarize the deal for you: if you "out" a farker who you met at the event and did not give you permission to out him/her, you are in "Default" meaning you consent to have any other farker treat you like Pocket Ninja treats an article by an illiterate AW.

I'm halfway through a year of sobriety. And I'm just getting over the Portland Public School headcold- cannot guarantee my non-contagiousness.

I'm only making excuses because I love you.

Just pretend there is another slightly awkward farker near the bar who may have just smiled at your breasts. Also, if you could slap an Obama sticker on GaryPDX's car I would appreciate it. Or barring that, have a drink for me.

I'm having trouble finding nametags... We may have to just introduce ourselves to others.

Haven't seen him for a bit. Was kinda hoping he'd be there.

Wide masking tape and a large Sharpie.

/just tryin' to help

I have the Sharpie, just got here, I'll see if the bar has tape.

Oh, and to make things more confusing, the guy in the DAVE shirt isn't me. I have the black shirt with white stripes.

I can bring some wide blue painter's tape, if nothing is found by the time I head out. Not ideal, but...

No luck at New Seasons, the bar has safety pins and a notepad...

The bar has provided flower shaped post it notes. Very festive.

I'll bring the roll just in case. There, I've "outed" myself. The guy who shows up with the roll of wide blue tape is me. XD

I hope you guys are having fun at the party. I'll just keep sitting here... at PDX airport.... alone... *sniffle*

I can't make it. Was hoping to squeeze it in before the poker game but ran out of time.

Ok, so we're here. Where is errbody?

We're in the back room, if anyone's trying to find us.

Oh the noise, the people! I just got back from the Fark Party and it was a gas! Is a gas, I should say, as it is still in full swing, or it was when I left 45 minutes ago.

Sorry I had to bail, folks, but my back was killing me. Good to put some faces to names... now if I will only be able to remember the faces and the names they correspond with, I'll be in business.

Thanks for making it! This winter maybe we can do a bowling party. How can anyone hate bowling?

We didn't last too much longer after you left. Though we did discover that a number of people showed up and didn't feel like introducing themselves. Didn't like the looks of us, I guess. Never knew Farkers were such furtive folk.

Indeed they are. I was sort of expecting that, anyway. Nobody I talked to seemed to be willing to say anything about themselves, sort of off-putting. I respect people's privacy but it would've been nice?

I had a great time playing pool with some Farker and a couple other non-Farkers.

Thanks David, this needs to happen again!

Only reason I came over and introduced myself was I had been already been drinking!

Thanks to everyone who made it, and for those who didn't there will be more in the future. I was thinking sometime in January for the next one. If anyone has suggestions let me know.
