Wooo I'm in.

I would come, but I'm moving out of state about two weeks before that to start grad school. :( I somehow always miss the Philly parties.

Oh hell yes. I'll be there.

I might. It's been a while since I've been to Philly. Although it doesn' look like it's actually in Phladelphia, which would be much easier.

I'm all about public transportation and cabs, especially when I want to get my drink on.

The last train out of Downingtown headed for Philly leaves at 11:37 PM. The one before that is 9:13 PM.

I may be able to make it. Put me down for a maybe.

Now in my calendar.

How about having a Philly Fark party in Philly and not out in the sticks

2012-07-09 02:58:17 PM
Am I the only one that read that as victory blowjob? Man I need to sleep.

2012-07-09 02:58:35 PM
I will try and be there for sure, love me some Victory. And Fark. Might by in Cali for a wedding, but if not I'm in!

Same here. I'm in West Chester. I don't know how the hell I've managed it, but I've worked here for 4 years and lived here for 3 and still haven't made it to Victory. I've had plenty of their beer, but haven't managed to drag myself out to the brewpub.

2012-07-09 03:00:36 PM
Wouldn't this technically be a Downingtown Fark Party?

2012-07-09 03:01:16 PM
Why the hell have it all the way out there? If you really have a jonesin for Victory, have it at the Xfinity live center.

2012-07-09 03:02:57 PM
Down in G-town? I could be talked into that.

THIS.

It's a perfectly cromulent city.

2012-07-09 03:04:14 PM
My friend used to be a brewer at that Victory. Now he works somewhere else, Slyfox I think.

As for the 'out in the sticks' comments, you couldn't be wronger. Yes it is west of actually philly by about 45- 60 minutes (depending on traffic) but it's not Parkesburg or Gap.

This is probably the closest Fark party to me that I will not attend.

2012-07-09 03:05:13 PM
I'm in. I haven't been to a Fark party since Snakes on a Plane in King of Prussia.

/I think we met after at Kildare's.

This! It's not a Philly Fark Party it's a "Somewhere in the Bumblefark Suburbs of Philly Fark Party". What's wrong with Chickie & Pete's or Finnegan's Irish Wake? Or any of the other hundreds of bars actually in Philly? Unless this party is moved to a bar that's actually in Philly, I'm not driving over an hour to get to a "Philly" Fark Party.

/End rant...

Both Parkersburg and Gap aren't "out in the sticks". They are borderline Pennsyltucky...

I have to agree with the other whiny coonts--it's not a Philly Fark Party at all. And I agree with Brap that the closer to CC the easier it is for out-of-towners.

Nevertheless, I'll still make an attempt to get to the Pennsylvania Fark Party. September is far away though.

As far as regional rail.. if you don't live on the Thorndale line or in Center City, you'd need to leave before 10pm to catch a train to Suburban Station to catch a train to another line home.

Brilliant.

I do!! My sister's husband is from York...I know what it's like out there! Her Mother-in-Law had two kinds of Tupperware... Everyday Tupperware that was used to store food in the fridge or cabinet and Good Tupperware that was used to serve food on special occasions and Holidays. And when she passed away, God rest her soul, all of her friends wore their best denim to her funeral. Yup, there's nothing quite like Pennsytucky! The only good thing about it is Shady Maple. Mmmm smorgasbord! Now there's a place for a Fark Party!

You guys are quite welcome to organize a party in the city. As I'm putting this one together, I think Victory is a great place to have it.

Crackers Are a Family Food: 006deluxe: Lurker's welcome?

Lurkers are very welcome! As far as I know most of us won't know the others, so it's not like you're missing some deep connections that non-lurkers share!

Snakeophelia: Are girls allowed at these parties?

Of course! Most Fark parties I've been to have not been sausagefests, so you probably won't even stick out. And I did the Victory 5k a few weeks ago!

2012-07-09 03:28:08 PM
You know, a bunch of you dumb-asses could plan together and and figure out the taxi/booze-bus situation before hand, or even look into hotel rooms.

GOSH! IF only you had nearly 2-months to plan! And a common, public message board on which to plan it!

/has a friend in north Philly, would consider this, but is honest with self and would probably just stay at his house and drink 'till all hours of the night.

I got beat at darts there by some girl with no personality.

2012-07-09 03:35:23 PM
I'll be there. It's kind of a hike to get there, but the brewpubs/taprooms that are more convenient to Philly residents are kinda crappy.

I'M LOOKING AT YOU, YARDS.

2012-07-09 03:42:46 PM
The Victory Brewery/BrewPub is a hell of time. If the Farkers seem to boring for you all, the bar is pretty happening place to be otherwise.

I will also tell you that this isn't the "sticks" Downingtown/chester springs? Exton etc.. are amoung the richest zip codes in the state and the final destination amoung many of the Philly Elite.

IF you do choose to go more Philly just do this. Victory Beer Hall At Xfinty Live across from the Stadiums in South Philly

http://xfinitylive.com/index.cfm?page=dine-drink-play&venue=2

/lives in Downingtown and gets a kick out of these

2012-07-09 03:43:06 PM
I would go, except it's forever away. What about Triumph Brewing Company, IN Philadelphia, or the Grey Lodge, in NE Philly, or South Philly Tap Room, in South Philly, or somewhere like that? Heck, I would even attend Johnny Brenda's. They're all large enough to hold bigger groups of Farkers, not to mention would be more convenient to get home from for people who actually live in Philly without risking one's life?

2012-07-09 03:53:17 PM

I'm pretty sure "sticks" in this circumstance is referring to the limited public transportation, need of a car to get around, etc. Downingtown isn't exactly a burgeoning urban area.

I'm a big fan of Johnny Brenda's. Frankford Hall is decent, too, if you want a Fishtown location.

But since I'm out in Lancaster now and Downington is a lot closer than Philly, I'll be there at Victory.

2012-07-09 04:48:23 PM
Sure, but only if I can lament loudly throughout the night about how the Phillies need to be more like the Yankees.

Hey, I have an idea! You could, you know, organize your OWN DAMN FARK PARTY!

Victory is about 10 minutes away from me. Best beer in Chester County.

2012-07-09 05:38:03 PM
I may come, but only so I can complain bitterly that no one had the courtesy to spend their time to organize an event at a location more convenient to me, because it is far less effort to guilt trip you into making changes that are in my favor than to organize something myself.

/according to google I am 6.5 miles away

2012-07-09 06:02:38 PM
I will have to get off work but that shouldn't be a huge problem...

How will I know if this is definitely happening? Or, is it and we're just spreading the word?

I may attend (not that anyone cares), but for those of you who do attend I highly recommend Victory's Golden Monkey..

I'm originally from Pittsburgh.

2012-07-10 07:44:09 AM
I'd love to go to a Fark party but Downingtown is just a tad to far outside of downtown Philly for me. The last train back to the city is at 11:30ish and I'm just getting started about then. Cab fare would run about $90 to $110 plus tip to 30th street. If I could get 3 others to split the fare it would be doable. Any takers?

Love the Victory Brewpub, it's great place and I'm sure those who attend will have a great time.

2012-07-10 07:49:30 AM
I was all excited about this... until I found out how far it was from Philly....

2012-07-10 09:35:43 AM
i'm in.

part of the reason, i believe, for having it in downingtown (besides victory being a good place) is so that people who aren't necessarily close to philly can make it too (for example, people from pittsburgh or harrisburg)

Also, bars in the city are heinously overcrowded and most of you are social retards

i'll probably take the train from hamilton or trenton, if anyone wants to leave their car at my house and come with, that's cool.

You're allowed to harass me outside of Fark parties.

You guys really are a bunch of whiners, but what else should we expect from Philly people. Philly people complain that it's not in the city. Non-Philly people would complain if it was in the city. There's no way to make all of you happy and since it's no one else has stepped up to plan this thing I say we go with what we have. So either come to the party at Victory or don't. Either way it won't matter because we'll have a good time with or without your asses.

2012-07-10 11:44:26 AM
Hey, Philly Farkers! Next party will be at The Backyard Ale House in Scranton. You in? Seriously, Downingtown is closer Lancaster than Philly.

Victory is a good time, though , so enjoy.

NYCNative: I will have to get off work but that shouldn't be a huge problem...

It's happening. I'm going to make a rough headcount based on this thread in a day or two and call Victory to reserve tables. Looks like there's more than enough interest to even get their group room reserved - if that costs a reasonable amount of money I'll just front that and ask for a few bucks from whomever wants to contribute.

I'll also be posting reminder threads with more details in a few weeks!

2012-07-10 03:55:42 PM
I work in Wayne, so should be doable. Can I lurk in the corner, make the occasional snide remark, and then disappear back into the shadows? No sense in breaking tradition.

I need to find a better hotel in downtown Philly than the dump I stayed in last time I was there. I went to see a friend's graduate show.

There were drug dealers and prostitutes openly wandering the hotel I was in.

"No sir, I do not want to purchase a kilo of cocaine or use the services of your lovely assistant at three a.m. but thanks for knocking on my fecking door to ask me! I appreciate that you have terrified my girlfriend to the point where she is cowering in the shower stall. Come again! This is better than Girl Scout cookies."

I called the front desk to tell them that some guy was walking around bothering the guests and the front desk person said. "If you want him to leave YOU tell him. He's got a gun and he's higher than shiate!"

Good times, good times.

Ok, I'm in. Anybody fussing about how far it is to Victory, try traveling all the way from 'Bama!

2012-08-08 08:02:31 PM
Is there a FB event for this? I might be able to make the trip, but it's the kind of thing I could decide to do last minute & I'll forget about it without something reminding me. Farktime ebbs and wanes significantly for me right now.

Wait are you inviting me to stay at the home of you? Because if I make it to this party I will need to have the place to stay because this would be the dangerous return drive of me.

2012-08-08 08:12:55 PM
Nobody knows me from Adam, but I might consider going to this. I live in Exton and Victory's about a five-minute drive, if that.

Let me tell you, the Victory Brewpub is a capital destination. Among my circle of drinking buddies, it is the thirtysomething's birthday party venue of choice. Best beer around (provided you like hops) and great food (especially after sinking 2-3 of their 8-10% plus beers).

Please tell me you're gonna reserve the mighty roundtable set in the old brewing tank. It would only seat 12 or so, not sure how big local Fark parties get, but the acoustics in there are fun.

Half Right: I have to agree with the other whiny coonts--it's not a Philly Fark Party at all. And I agree with Brap that the closer to CC the easier it is for out-of-towners.

Nevertheless, I'll still make an attempt to get to the Pennsylvania Fark Party. September is far away though.

Yessss.... I will definitely be there, then.

I have been to a few Philly Fark parties but that was a lifetime ago. Fun times!

I look forward to going to another. Please count me in.

That's what we're planning on doing, cabbing it from and back to Exton. It looks like a 10 minute cab ride or so, very doable.

Just a note, from looking at the local tripadvisor reviews: some of the hotels there might fill up during events at the local racetrack and Exton is close enough to count, and of course there's an event there that weekend. If you might be going, think about making a reservation now that you can always cancel beforehand if needed. Just a thought. Or else you'll have to bunk with Fife.

So if Gap and Parkesburg are borderline Pennsyltucky...

What is Coatesville? (Do I want to know?)

Lived most my life just a few miles from Victory Brewery... turned 21 after I moved away :(

I also think we should bring back some of the old town names. PA had/has some of the best. Turk's Head would be SW of King of Prussia and if you keep going through Midway you should reach Paradise

It's about an hour from me, but I'll have room if any York area farkers want to meet up and carpool.

That's right, I'm offering to be DD.

I read Fark every day but have only posted a handful of times....that makes me a lurker, doesn't it? Crud.

In any case, I will try to make it out for this! If there's anyone around the Manayunk area desperate for a ride, let me know. I gots wheels.

I used to live in d-town, walking distance to victory. That was dangerous.

I live in Devon now, so it's a little far, but do-able. I still have many friends that live there. I don't drink anymore, so it's not as much of a draw for me.

/they do have great food though

2012-08-09 12:29:27 PM
Damn, next time I try to have a Fark Party up here in the Lehigh Valley, I'll have to list it as a Philly party. This is a heck of a turnout. Granted, Allentown is 60 miles north of Philly and Downingtown is only 40 miles west, but still....

I'm probably moving that week, so I'll see if I can make it. I'll be closer thankfully, but its going to be a busy week.

2012-08-09 12:49:02 PM
Well, let's see if I can actually show up for this one, unlike the last one I chickenshiatted out of.

Besides, a friend keeps telling me how fun the Victory Brewpub is. I suspect I'll be visiting it before Sept 8th.

Lastly, I'm hauling my ass in from Center City, so you'll hear me coming as I curse the traffic on 76...

2012-08-09 02:44:33 PM
I'm excited so many people are coming to this thing!

2012-08-09 03:38:00 PM
The location of Victory is very odd at first visit. You will be driving into an area of town that is just warehouses and etc.... you will feel like you are lost all the way until you finally see the place. Than you'll be like wait... this is it eyebrows wrinkled. You walk in and you are like transformed into a German Octoberfest beer hall and you get a big grin on your face.

/the end
//book the octoberfest hall with the projection screens mr organizer guy.

If you join a hotel's reward program thingamabob the rates are usually cheaper, too. And Drew's aware, he's not sure he can make this one but it's on the radar.

Lurker here; find y'all to be quite an entertaining group. Currently in the Philly area on my way south...might just have to figure a way to get to this one.

Love Victory - not sure if it is too early for their barleywine ale however...that could tip the scales.

2012-08-15 02:45:45 PM

ami5000: Victory closes at midnight anyway

So this means we should stock up at the liquor store beforehand for the inevitable hotel afterparties? Or are there other bars nearby?

2012-08-15 02:47:25 PM

Half Right: So this means we should stock up at the liquor store beforehand for the inevitable hotel afterparties? Or are there other bars nearby?

Victory is relatively close to West Chester which is a college town. Which means plenty of other bars.

2012-08-15 02:47:26 PM
I've already said it once, but I'll repeat this one last time:

YORK FARKERS:

I will be attending, and I'll be happy to drive. I promise not to drink more than 3 beers.

I'll be staying for an hour or two, because I need to get back to York to see a friend play in another bar.

2012-08-15 02:56:15 PM
Philly Fark party... West of West Chester? Um...

Yeah, so I've never been to one, what's it like? What goes on?

I'd be driving from just NE of Philly in Levittown. Anyone need a ride?

Been on Fark for over 11 years, and haven't been to one...

2012-08-15 03:07:40 PM

ami5000: you would throw snowballs at me.

Santa??

2012-08-15 03:08:35 PM

Nagle: Yeah, so I've never been to one, what's it like? What goes on?

We just sit around and eat food and drink beer, it's pretty simple. We're all from this website, so we all have similar senses of humor, and all the drinking really helps bring that out. They're fun.

Timanous: Alpha Sierra Foxtrot: *pouts*

You guys can sleep on the pullout couch in my room with Tat'd.

If my dad was going to be home & would pay for my plane ticket, I'd come up, BUT unfortunately, he'll be in Italy.

Pretty much this. You hang out and drink with some of the folks you've been kibbitzing with on this site for years. Plus the food looks damn tasty.

Mike: Nearby hotel recommendations plzkthx?

Message E-Brake, she's got the hookupz.

Looks like I'm probably going to be going afterall

2012-08-15 03:25:40 PM
I can't really recommend any hotels since I've never stayed at them, but there's a large cluster of them at the intersection of rt100 and rt113 in Exton/Lionville. They are by far the closest. The nicest one is probably the Sheraton Great Valley, which is a few more miles away.. that's where most of QVC's guests stay.

2012-08-15 03:26:04 PM
I totally forgot QVC is there.

2012-08-15 03:27:06 PM

drkdstryer: You guys are quite welcome to organize a party in the city. As I'm putting this one together, I think Victory is a great place to have it.

When did you move into enemy territory? Traitor....

/Try the Victory fresh brewed rootbeer. Had that 2 summers ago when I was there for a wedding in Phoenixville.

It is literally in an industrial complex.

someone should get kwame to come

2012-08-15 03:43:42 PM
I'll be calling a few hotels to see if we can get a block rate, will post info here.

Meanwhile, Exton seems to be the nearest hub of hotels. And I recommend booking asap as they might fill up for the raceway event that weekend too, maybe. You can always get a cancellable rate, and if you join the Rewards program thingies you'll probably get a cheaper rate. Checking google maps there's the Sheraton Great Valley (in nearby Frazer) as HoboCop said, also the Hampton Inn, Fairfield Inn, Comfort Suites, Holiday Inn Express, and the AVE in Downingtown. I can't vouch for any so check tripadvisor, and meantime I'll get back with any info on a block rate somewhere if possible.

That's just where we keep the strippers and beer.

No, he is serious. When I went there 2 years ago, you drive around back and it feels like you are at a loading dock for a warehouse. Really odd place.

A last note about the Hampton Inn/Exton "Fark/Victory" $99 rate (just a 10 min cab ride from the brewery): Sales has agreed to extend the rate as long as they have the rooms available, just give them a call at (610) 363-5555.

Emotionally or Physically close? I think it matters...

One thing I like about Victory is that it's within walking distance of my house. I think I'll stop on by!

It can go either way.

That cop didn't find it amusing, so he and a couple pals showed me how they do it with a night stick.

Woke up in a Philly hospital (started the night in Delaware) covered in blood with a catheter up in me.

Do it. DOOO EEEET!

shivashakti: If I still lived in Jersey, I'd make it out there. Went to one or two Fark Parties there before.

When did you move out of NJ? That Fark party in NJ wasn't that long ago.

Oh, that explains why they gave it to me after the expiration date.

That's hilarious. I may actually be in Philly that weekend.. to go to the bar with some friends and acquaintances from another website. If I'm in town I'll try to steal away for an hour and visit.

I moved to Boston in July.

Damn. Driving back from the OBX on the 8th. Have fun you Farkers!

BTW... Downingtown?

on the road: Oh man, I wanted to go to this. Would have driven from Baltimore. But I'm leaving for Morocco on the 10th.

Morocco, eh? What for? I lived there for over 2 years if you need some tips.

I wish I could go to the Fark party... I just don't feel like taking the train 4 hours rt... maybe when there's one more convenient for me.

2012-09-02 09:39:39 AM
w00t!!! I'm in!

2012-09-02 10:07:20 AM
Dang. I'll be out of town. I would most definitely go if I were around.

Also, sheesh what a bunch of whingers... Yes, there are lots of good bars in Philly. Sadly, all the best ones are tiny and all the ones that aren't tiny are surrounded in a miasma of axe body spray. Victory was a good choice.

2012-09-02 12:03:19 PM
I'm driving 10 hours for this, so you "it's not really in Philly" people can drive a wee bit less to get there, ya know ;-)

2012-09-02 12:29:49 PM

Marcus Aurelius: I can't help but notice we're not on their calendar of events.

Shouldn't we be on their calendar of events?

Nope - they don't allow actual "reservations" on Saturdays. However, I've been talking with the manager and they are cooperating with us and they know we're coming with a large group. We're also working on getting food and/or drink specials for that night; that isn't set in stone yet. But they definitely know we're coming.

2012-09-02 03:03:29 PM
Count me in. Good choice of venues, Victory has a nice selection on tap.

2012-09-03 09:55:04 PM
No longer tentative. We're in.

I think we're going to have tables. If we sat at the bar we would overtake the entire place.

I will be there. If anyone needs directions, a place to crash (if I know you), etc. you can either email me or call me between now and then. EIP

It takes me about 15/20 minues to get to Downingtown.

If you don't like me, bother Ami. (j/k Ami)

Are we still in here complaining that this is not a Philly Fark party because it's not in Philly?
Because it is not.

I'm from Philly and we don't appreciate it when people claim to be from Philly but they actually live like 1/2 hr - 45 mins away. I often meet people when I'm traveling and they ask me where I'm from & I say Philly. They say "Me too!" and I'm like "yeah, what street, yo?" and then they say "I'm from Quakertown" or some shiat. No. Not the same. Not the same At All, yo.

That being said, I would so totally schlep out to the country to party wit yous if I still lived there, yo.

/jealous, yo

Too bad they stopped doing tours of the brewery due to liability concerns. I am only 45 minutes away and fill my growlers there regularly but will be spending the weekend with my soon to be 81 uear old Dad

Their brewery used to be a Pepp Farms Goldfish factory IIRC

If any of youhave the chance (and coin) but one of their growlers. Porcelain flip top with a seal and much better than what most places are trying to sell these days. Keeps the beer well for a few days... Not that mine ever lasted that long

I was considering this, since I bought a house right outside of Allentown, and Downingtown is a straight shot down 100 from me. I was supposed to close yesterday, move today, and since my parents were going to be here to help me move, I was going to pawn my kids off on them and head down. But my closing got pushed out a week. So I'm an hour further north, and I don't have anyone to watch my kids. Maybe next time, kids.

For the zero of you that were looking forward to seeing me, I'm sorry. The daughter got sick, and I can't make it now.

All dressed and will be leaving in about half an hour. I'm wearing all black - a pleated miniskirt, tights, boots, a black top, lots of bracelets, and a hat. Can't wait to meet you guys!

Marcus Aurelius: DWitchiewoman: Crackers Are a Family Food:
Eh, I do that because nobody knows where Spring City is. Everyone knows where Philly is, you know?

I get it. I'd just prefer "I'm from an area outside Philadelphia. It's called Spring City". Or something like that?

I should do that. I live right next to Pennhurst, which is awesome.

Or not! Fate intervenes and I'll be there after all. Heading out now!

brap: cptjack: I grew up in the burbs, been living in the city for two years, and spent three out near Downingtown.

Victory was a bad choice. The main line sucks, Victory is to philly brewpubs what Bennigans is to Irish Pubs and there is nothing else of consequence out there but the tattered remains of Bam Margera's career.

I would have appreciated (and actually been able to attend) a fark party at a place like Frankford Hall, Downeys (as seen on TV!), any other place on South St, or even that Xfinity place where Veterans' Stadium used to be.

Simply put, holding a Philly Fark party an hour (by car, at best) from the City Limits and having it at one of the more over-exposed, edgeless, and watered-down brewpubs around is a real bummer.

And yet we will soldier on and despite the living hell that is being comfortably seated in a reasonably priced brewpub with a group of friends.

God willing, and despite all odds, I feel we will somehow manage to enjoy ourselves.  Mark my word, at the end of this Bataan Death March, our Trail of Tears, our Nam we will have a couple of beers and a few larfs despite the absolute agony we have undergone to do so.

Be brave compatriots, for you eat nachos and wings and gorge yourself on tasty beverages not only for yourselves tonight - but for the hopes of a nation.  Godspeed and good luck.  We're all counting on you.

Hey, all. Sorry I didn't show up - I couldn't find the damn place! My directions were wrong, and the woman I spoke to at the bar directed me to a street that didn't exist! Drove all over Downingtown, but couldn't find it. Grrrrrr! I was looking so forward to meeting everyone. Oh well - there will be other times. I hope everyone who found the place had a great time!
