That's still not as bad as the "No Left Turn" signs that they have at the end of all of the "on" ramps on the interstate.

"In 1999 and 2000 in Virginia, men over 18 were responsible for 219 births involving girls who were 13 and 14, the department said."

And I assume all 219 of those men are in jail now anyway?

I wish the state would stay out of my sex life.

Do you know how hard it is to find a babysitter who's above the age of 14?

2004-06-14 02:50:35 PM
For the record...

1: I live in Virginia.

2: I have a 13 year old girl

3: I am not one of the 219

Oh, and for any of the 219 who visit here -

4: I own a gun.

That is all.

this is one of my favorite hobbies while out traveling...finding out an areas vices based on the PSA billboards in the region. (hey, it beats slug-bug)

where i am currently (n. central indiana) there isn't a damned thing to do but get drunk/stoned/howl at the moon...so all the billboards concentrate on 'don't drive drunk' and 'kids, marijuana will curve your spine!'

up north a ways, near the casino boats, and chicago slum-burbs, the signs are nearly all about the dangers of gambling and gangs...

the oddest i think i can remember off hand would be the region around cherokee, NC...those reservation folks must be some wife beating sumbiatches, as i saw no less then 5 billboards expressing the obvious...beating your wife is bad. that and a whole collection of diabetes signs, the oddest of which i remember said 'diabetes: it makes your feet hurt. get it checked out."

Never more appropriate:

Aw, but sooner or later it comes down to fate

here we go

"if she can read she can bleed"
"only enough to pee only enough for me"
"only enough to count only enough to mount"
"old enough to bleed old enough to breed"
"grass on the wicket, lets play cricket"
"old enough to pull'm up old enough to pull'm down"

feel free to add your own.

Putting men who impregnate 13- or 14-year-olds in jail puts the burden of raising the resulting child on the parent(s) of the mother. (and costs me, the taxpayer, the massive costs of imprisoning the asshat.) Hence the attempt to stop it before it starts.

There's lots of other crimes where imprisonment is counterproductive to damage that's already done but this isn't a thread for discussing those.

Spacemarinekilla, if you right click, you should see a BugMeNot prompt. This will give you a generic name and password.

\Now if only they can set it up where it populates the fields for you.

All you have to do is put a question mark on the end of the url and remove any part of it that doesn't have anything to do with the article itself.

Or...just click here.

219 such births in a 2-year period somehow warrants this enormous waste of taxpayer dollars?

How about finding the men in question and putting their asses in jail?

I wonder which cities they're doing that in... We could definitely use some of those signs in Blacksburg though.

for those who dont want to spend time telling the post they are a veternarian for a large banking firm:

RICHMOND, Va. - The state is posting billboards with messages such as "Isn't she a little young?" as part of a campaign to dissuade men from having sex with underage girls.

The campaign is aimed at reducing the number of young girls who have children with older men, the Virginia Department of Health said Monday.

In 1999 and 2000 in Virginia, men over 18 were responsible for 219 births involving girls who were 13 and 14, the department said.

Messages such as "Isn't she a little young?" and "Sex with a minor, don't go there" also appear on posters, coasters and napkins in bars, restaurants and stores in five cities.

"We encourage adult men to talk to their peers and discourage them from pursuing teenagers. What they are doing is unhealthy and against the law," said Robert Franklin, a health department official.

In Allegan Co Michigan they had a billboard with the slogan: "Don't Ever Ever Shake A Baby" with a picture of a baby that appeared to be shaken a few too many times.

Teen pregnancy: nothing a good, hard punch in the gut won't fix.

Let's put the Virgin back in Virginia.

"We encourage adult men to talk to their peers and discourage them from pursuing teenagers. What they are doing is unhealthy and against the law,"

Yeah, that'll happen.

"Aw, shoot. Dang. Okay. But ain't my niece purty?"

Next in Alabama they will have signs that read, "Don't you want your children to have a chance to mentally mature? Please don't inbreed."

Isn't this something we'd expect to see in Licking or Muskingum County, Ohio, not the state of Virginia?

They should probably try and work a "talk to the hand" into that campaign somewhere.

I live in virginia. I know one chick who got pregnant to a 22 year old guy...she was 15 at the time. And there was a pervie 'chester the molester' type living nearby who sold cigarettes to kids (and, I believe, had sex with a 10 year old slutty girl).

These people should be sodomized with a cattle prod and then force fed glass/laxatives.

I thought I'd never say it but apparently the parents in Virginia need a few more guns. I have one and like Shaquile O'Neil, "If you kill the first one the rest will get the picture"

joemc72, that reminds me...

Excuse me. If whoever's in the house is still in the house, I'd like you to know that I have just called the police. If you have any brains whatsoever, you'll get your ass out of my house real quick.

I'd also like to add that I have my father's gun. And a scorching case of herpes.

You might be interested in knowing that Fort Wayne recently had billboards with "Lock your doors at night" and "Don't Leave your Keys in your Car" with pictures of local policepersons on them.

Just don't rob my house when you visit ;)
