It's quite possible, Submitter, for something to happen for which Trump is not at all responsible.

Didn't one of the last people he played with say he didn't take calls on the course?

As an aside, I remember in the hours after the towers fell, thinking dafuq is the president? Even though I didn't like him, I wanted to hear from him what was going on; the difference being that they were keeping Bush's location a secret until they knew the extent of the attack, whereas in this case Trump doesn't want to be arsed.

I'm certainly no fan of Trump, but what should he have done? Someone made a mistake. I don't think the president necessarily needs to comment on every farkup by a state. I would also assume if this were a real attack, he would know it before the alert was sent out.

I would also assume if this were a real attack - or even a perceived real attack - the SS would have his ass off that golf course before he could blink an eye.

I don't anyone saying it was Trump fault or he should have been able to do something to prevent it, it's the lack of response everyone is annoyed about. Couldn't hold a quick news conference to reassure everyone they're not going to die? Maybe take a few minutes from golf to send a tweet at least? Instead we get...

And what was he supposed to do about it since it seems he wasn't made aware of the false alert until he was done playing golf?

I know, he should put on a cape, fly around the earth counter clockwise and stop the nonexistent missiles!

He wasn't under any obligation to do so, but if he had quickly tweeted out an "all clear, false alarm" message it would have reduced the duration of the panic and would have given him a bit of positive PR.

This.

He could have won a few easy points for saying we need to make our warning systems better.

Instead, we get another whiny tweet from him.

A notable thing was that in 2001, Air Force One didn't have a whole lot of communications capabilities. George W. Bush had no ability to give any media appearances from aboard the plane. They had to land at Barksdale for him to give a brief statement, then again at Offutt to have secure video conferencing with cabinet members, and then back to the White House later in the evening.

Since then, AF1 has been upgraded for the President to be able to give video appearances that can be broadcast. It's a vast improvement from what was available in 2001.

Furthermore, he could have also used the moment to remind people to be prepared for disasters, natural or otherwise.

However, that would require him to be presidential.

Sensei Can You See: It's quite possible, Submitter, for something to happen for which Trump is not at all responsible.

It's probably more likely that Trump's rhetoric and his vaunted 'stability' have contributed to brinkmanship and heightened international tension, and the likelihood that something disastrous could happen.

When I saw the reports this morning, my absolute first thought was "Error? No, someone wanted to see what might actually happen if they told people they were about to get hit."

The answer, no doubt pleasing to the powers that be, is "not much".

IMO, the simplest explanation for the time lag between the announcement and the correction.

2018-01-13 10:05:31 PM
If it were me I'd expect to be notified about sh*t like that. Upon said notification I'd drop whatever I was doing to confirm the authenticity of the message. Upon finding out it was a false alarm I'd hold a quick press conference to reassure the nation. One thing's for sure, I wouldn't be getting another round of golf in that day. When you're President you're on call 24/7. If that's too much for Trump maybe he should let someone else do the job.

2018-01-13 10:06:09 PM
I think it was deliberate and issued by a Trump operative, just to tease us into thinking that our long international nightmare of his rule was about to be over.

Kind of like a mock execution on a statewide level.

If we blame him for stuff he had no hand in a la Republicans with Obama, don't we risk a "He who fight monsters" scenario? Seriously: dude's golfing, some guy in Hawaii presses a wrong button. Was that test on his morning briefings, or on his orders? Would anyone in Hawaii even have believed a twit he sent out? It would be just like him to openly deny active nuclear strikes on blue states, as that makes him look bad.

If you were hiding in the end of an open piping system, and the other end terminated under water, say in the ocean for instance,  wouldn't the shock transmit power into the water as a pressure spike, which would then blow you out the other end?

Maybe; but that song by Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) was pretty farking amazing.   I still hum it from time to time.

" Hey, it's your day to say "you're welcome"
'Cause I'm gonna need that boat

I'm sailing away, away, you're welcome
'Cause Maui can do everything but float!!"
