You may need the new facial recognition software. This photographer certainly could use it.

I found his comment funny - I shoot a lot of editorial and high end advertising and literally everything is retouched.  What comes out of the camera is fairly flat.

Maybe he'll be surprised that movies are edited together and not shot in one go!

tuxq: But who would deliver that to a client? How could the originals be worse?

1. Make a copy of the raw files and put the raw files somewhere safe.
2. If you screw up editing the copies, delete them, make another copy of the raw files and edit the copies.
3. Rinse
4. Repeat

/5. Send me money.

It's actually a homage to the Victorian Era Postmortem Photography, also known as Memento Mori photography.

I'm calling it a hoax. No paid photographer would intentionally do something like that on the final product submitted to clients, unless they specifically requested cartoons. As for retouching shadows, it can be done with free apps like Google Photos in a matter of seconds - and a professional might own a copy of Photoshop, which has a shadow adjustment that gives excellent results when used right. Who wouldn't at least search the internet for a solution?
