If only there was something they could do for measles.  A vaccine or something...

Galileo's Daughter: If only there was something they could do for measles.  A vaccine or something...

We do, but even then, the CDC notes that 1 dose of the vaccine is only 93% effective, a second dose boosts that to 97% effective. (Tip: Recommendation for a second dose didn't come until 1998.)

Measles is extremely virulent. An average person carrying measles will infect 12-18 people. Even if they all had 2 doses of the vaccine, that's roughly a 30% chance that one of them (12) or 43% chance (18) will get the measles.

Just a reminder that even if you had the two shot MMR series if you are exposed as an adult a booster is recommended.

Having spent many years going back and forth between Boston and Newark on shuttle flights, I can honestly say "fark that place"

I was given two doses as a child and the second was in 1992.

I guess you could argue that Morristown also services the North Jersey area?

I was there on the 8th. This happened a few days later, so, barring some sort of temporal abnormality, we weren't exposed.

Good thing, too. I wouldn't want to risk getting a terminal disease.

Occasionally I'm glad to have caught some of these things (measles, mumps, chicken pox) as a kid back in the Dark Ages, so I don't have to worry now.

Me too, must have been 4 when I had the measles. Bonus - we lived in Jersey, maybe 15 miles from Newark Airport

I did bring home the Cold from Hell from New Jersey. Goes right to your chest and turns to bronchitis if you're unlucky.

If we make vaccines legal, only legals will have vaccines.
