I just started watching The Wire. I didn't think much About Lester at first.  About half way through the first season, I started picking up on how great a character Lester is and how good the actor who played him is.

And yet that show is soooo good, that he's, like, the 4th best character on it...

It's like what my dad always said about the Beatles.  He said 'I know they're the best band ever because their 3rd best songwriter wrote 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps''.

I sort of envy you. Getting to watch it for the first time.

I you find season 2 a bit of drag (some people do) don't let it stop you, season 3 is great and it all matters in the end.

I'm about halfway through season 3 now. I'm a little sad - every episode I get closer to the end and no more Wire. Although, I think I  could re-watch it and pick up stuff I missed the first time around.

I knew I was in for a treat when McNulty and Bunk had an entire, understandable, conversation that consisted of nothing but 'fark' and its variants.

I actually liked the Docks season - mostly because I really like the actors who played Frank and Nick Sobotka. Also, dear god Ziggy was a stupid fark up.

It definitely gets better the second time through because it is easier to follow all the story lines and characters.

I think Ziggy is probably the reason most people struggle with season 2. Season 3 and 4 are my faves. Hope you enjoy the hell out of them.

Ha! I had the opposite - I watched American Gods last summer. I spent half of the Docks season wondering why Nick looked so familiar.

If you haven't seen them add Deadwood and Band of Brothers to your must watch list.

Those three shows feature an amazing cast of actors who always seem to turn up in great movie and TV.

Personally I am always shouting "Bunk! " at my TV. But there are a lot of them.

I think the other reason some are down on S2 is that it all of a sudden introduced a completely new set of characters and a different setting, when they were probably expecting the focus to remain on the Barksdale crew.

I thought that season was pretty great.

I've been meaning to do a rewatch of the series for a while now, but it's difficult with the onslaught of great television these days (and there's a ton of that I don't have time for either).

On a side note, Im not a big twitter person, but I adore David Simon's feed.

2018-01-12 11:37:28 PM
I think you might be right about the change in focus. I know first time through I was glad to get back  to the barksdale story line. But on a second watch it is (for me) it is more the suspension of belief Ziggy requires that takes me out of it.

That said I think the actor die a great job.

Didn't know David Simon had a podcast, I will check it out. Thanks

In the end none of it really matters, because nothing has farking changed.  BS drug war still going, media still lying and covering up, school system indoctrinating not educating, with corrupt government leaders and gangs making/stealing money every step of the way off of working class people.

Thanks! I'm kicking for not watching it sooner.

If you haven't seen them add Deadwood and Band of Brothers to your must watch list.

Those three shows feature an amazing cast of actors who always seem to turn up in great movie and TV.

Personally I am always shouting "Bunk! " at my TV. But there are a lot of them.

Deadwood = yes!

I haven't seen Band of Brothers but I've heard good things.  I'll have to check it out

Once you do you are down the rabbit hole. After that Justified. Pulls it all together.

Justified is full of gems. I especially like the episode in season four or five when Raylan's boss goes off on what a badass the guy they're hunting is.

I just started watching The Wire. I didn't think much About Lester at first.  About half way through the first season, I started picking up on how great a character Lester is and how good the actor who played him is.
