Played some Elite: Dangerous this week after reading about the HTC Vive Pro (nearly twice the resolution - like 78% increase).  Can't wait!  It already looks amazing, but since round one will be a replacement for the current gear (the Pro works with the current peripherals) *and* a "highly placed reliable rumor" says that the replacement headset will only be $350. I'm in.

Anyway, took a video so some of you who keep hearing about Elite can check it out.  I was on my way to the Bubble nebula (about 10,000 light years from Earth).  The video covers the last few jumps and then the nebula interior.  It's gorgeous - I wish I could show you guys just how amazing it is in VR.  My jaw was dropped as I was flying around:

Same as last week.  Rimworld, ESO, The Surge, Shadow Tactics.  Still can't figure out how to keep caravans alive in Rimworld.

My boss got a code for Battlegrounds and gave it to me. I didn't think I'd like it, but I'm enjoying it. Gets tense toward the end when you've got around 10-15 left. Best I've done is 3rd.

As far as games I've replayed a lot, Fallout 3/NV, Mass Effect trilogy, Dragon Age: Origins, Dishonored 1/2, Hitman, and Rocket League is my go-to when I don't wanna commit much time.

Started messing around with New Vegas, which is very, very, VERY much indeed better than Fallout 3. Enjoying it so far and I've only just left Primm.

Also started Metal Gear V Ground Zeroes in preparation for Phantom Pain. It's fun, but I need to get better at it to fully enjoy it, I think.

Rig is up and running so I got PUBG.  I had internet issues all week so I didn't play much because of stability.
So I need someone to play PUBG with, I am getting Witcher 3, and am playing through Doom.
Humble winter sale has me ready to blow a chunk of a paycheck on things I have missed, and tax returns incoming which means top shelf video card and building out the old components for a spare rig/something to give to a friend.
I really want to get into PUBG, I am sick of reading about it.  I got 4 rounds in this weekend but lagged out of 2 so tonight I should be able to give it a shot as connection is stable finally after full coax replacement in the house.

Dude.

I play PUBG.

We're in a group now.

I'd be more than willing to team up.

Just know that I'm not great at it.

I'm playing Skyrim. Been leveling up faster thanks to Youtube. I have both Sneak and Pickpocketing at 100. I'm also at level 35 and just recently went to visit the Greybeards. I'm now in Riften about to join the Thieves Guild.

Want to level up REAL quick?

Blacksmithing. Make lots of jewelry and armor, sell it for more jewelry and armor crafting supplies, rinse and repeat.

I've been replaying Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines.

It's still an awesome game. Voice acting is amazing all around.

2018-01-12 02:10:47 AM
I can always go back to Plants vs Zombies, Civ 5, Great Big War Game and Borderlands 2.

And Solaris 2 if I'm too hammered to play anything more complicated. It's very soothing.

Don't laugh at me. I joined Pokemon Go a week ago and am already at Level 17. I'd be doing walking for exercise anyway, but this gives me something that diverts me and encourages me.

Football Manager, why you'd play anything else is beyond me. Except Grim Fandango

This past week, I finally finished PlaneScape Torment after approximately 17 years. Was awesome to actually get a conclusion to The Nameless One's storyline.
img.fark.netView Full Size

And that wasn't the only game I finished this week, as I completed all 5 episodes of Batman: The Telltale Games Seriesfirst season. It was my first exposure to the Telltale Games approach to playing. I didn't see most of the various storyline twists coming. And I apparently don't have fast enough instincts for the Quick Time events when using mouse and laptop keyboard.

I also created a Trill character in Star Trek Online and went through the initial tutorial missions dealing with the Klingons and minor Borg probes. Probably going to play that again tonight and do the first proper mission of the first Federation episode.

On top of that, I went through the first two training missions (not the actual game proper) of Elite: Dangerous, learning the basic flight controls and attempting to dock and land in the orbital space station. Unfortunately, I timed out and screwed up the latter. I'm now watching the Pilot Training videos on YouTube and am going to compete the training missions before creating my actual character for real.

Did a couple of games in the Matilda in World of Tanks and had enough rewards from Christmas/New Year to unlock the Soviet SU-18 SPG, so I could experience the game as artillery. It's different but not as fun as regular tanking.

I'm not going to do the 12 games in 12 months this year, but I think I will try and get the 2 I missed in 2017 (Brütal Legend & Star Wars Battlefront 2[2005 edition] single player campaigns) finished ASAP. Still 10 games in 12 months wasn't bad for a self-described non-gamer in 2017.

2018-01-12 07:23:38 AM
I was looking around and found this last week: Diablo Belzebub.
It is a mod/expansion of the first Diablo game, new monsters, quests, items and that such. Also textures updated to HD and it looks good even at my 1920x1080 resolution.

It is harder than I remember so being a nice fun trip down memory lane.

Mostly The Division.  I finished Mario Odyssey (Fantastic game) and I started Blaster Master Zero.  Great remake, but the music isn't as good as the original.

2018-01-12 08:07:08 AM
Took a couple of days break from the end stage beta testing that I've been doing (release date announced as 1/31 ... but he hasn't updated the website to reflect this ... so?) & lost myself in a huge map, CIV3C game.  I'd forgotten how much fun/big time sink it was.  Just what I needed though.

2018-01-12 08:22:18 AM
I dug up Kenshi again for the first time in over a year since they're about to finally go live with it.  Final map portion is about to go live along with a few missing components.  Game's in good shape.

2018-01-12 08:27:11 AM
I haven't played a game in years, but we got a PS4 for my daughters for Christmas. In addition to playing Gang Beasts and Rocket League with them, I also downloaded myself Fortnite Battle Royal.

I am terrible at it. Like, amazingly bad. I like the stealth aspects much better than the shooting, so if I find a bush, I am thrilled. I totally, completely suck at building. I love playing, but I'm never going to win a round. Also, I never play squads because I feel bad about subjecting anyone to my awfulness.

All in all, fun game that I'm bad at.

2018-01-12 08:57:16 AM
Coming out of holiday binges of Dirt 3 and No Man's Sky I remembered that I'd installed Civ VI in there somewhere, but never played it. That seemed wrong given how much time I've spent on previous versions and now I have a respectable start of 43 hours played. A ways to go before catching up to the 1310 Steam says I've spent playing V, but a start.

I haven't begun driving empires into the sea yet as I like to learn the other mechanics of a Civ game before resorting to lethal diplomacy by default. Best laugh of the week was skipping a perfect city location in favor of one less favorable, but with access to three stone resource locations. My people had the Stone Circle as the basis of their early religion so naturally they would build in a bad spot full of rocks rather than a fertile river valley. The fun of solo Civ is that it can be an RPG if you don't have to worry about winning :)

2018-01-12 09:04:43 AM
I've been played no the hell out of PUBG. I found a great discord group for finding squads. I'm terrible but still enjoying it despite the hackers and BS.

Divinty: Original Sin 2... just can't stop playing it...

We Are Billions (man I suck at this game, but I am still having fun)
Oxygen not Included - Got lucky with my latest seed, have a natural gas on the edge of the start biome so I have a good source of power after my coal runs out.

2018-01-12 09:08:54 AM
Darkest Dungeon, still. Got the Crimson Court DLC and am thoroughly enjoying it. In between bouts of working on my Pathfinder game. I got a Steam giftcard for Christmas and haven't used it. Soooo many things on the wishlist, still...

2018-01-12 09:08:57 AM
Video Games: Cuphead, still. Civ VI. Trying out the demos for games I backed on Tabletop Simulator. AEGIS looks super cool, and I can't wait to get the physical game.

Tabletop: still running Uranium Chef, waiting on the Sentinels RPG starter kit.
And a newfound joy is Charterstone. I like the legacy aspect, although we got confused, so now the granary is near the mine, and the lumber mill is by the clay pit.

Echo Arena in VR.  It's the first game I've seen that really does multiplayer VR right.  I've punched the ceiling, my monitor, stepped on the dog, and almost fell over with the cord twisted around me.  Good times.

2018-01-12 09:09:59 AM
I have Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in progress, as well as Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen.  So that's been my primary waste of time.  Reached that point in my Stardew Valley farm that I can make upwards of 100k a day, so thinking of nuking that farm and starting over.

Between Dice, Camera, Action, ProJared's D&December, and Commander Holly's Friendly Table, decided to buy a D&D Player's Manual and am learning the nuts and bolts of the game.  Probably a few weeks out from feeling ready to get a character sheet together, but it's fine.  Learning the game mechanics are important.

On the retro side, found a copy of the Adventures of Batman and Robin and instantly regretted not having this game as a kid.  Great stuff that captures the feel of the show very well.

2018-01-12 09:10:28 AM
Playing Zelda and Horizon Zero Dawn this week.   I always seem to come back to the SSI gold box games, and the Sierra Quest for Glory games.

2018-01-12 09:16:03 AM
I'm back on Stellaris vanilla.  I've finally got a good run going, although I faked it.  No advanced or forgotten empires, so I can expand with a little elbow room.  I tried to leapfrog settlements to get as much space as possible as quickly as I can, and that seemed to work.  I also imbiggened my fleet faster than normal and got all of the perks I could get to reduce empires hating me.  I've got most of the fleet upgrades, control about half of the galaxy, and no-one has declared war on me, so this has worked so far.  If I can get to end-game, I will try this with a regular set-up.

That was a good one but fyi they all have varying degrees of QTE's including none at all on some of the older ones, so far in my experience that Batman was heavier on the QTE's than most so if that wasn't your favorite part know that some of them are much more like just watching a story and occasionally picking speech responses. Wolf Among Us was pretty good and Tales from the Borderlands was very amusing imo

Question for yinz:  Steam got rid of Greenlight, including the Greenlight Concepts section.  That's where you could get feedback on your idea and see if people are interested; it's what ConcernedApe did with Stardew Valley back in 2012.  It's how he got his publisher.

What's the best way to do that sort of thing now?

Mrs. Soupafi got me a stream gift card so I got some games I played as a yute. Superpower 2 and F22 lightening 3. Also got some YDKJ and the game I really like right now Universe Sandbox2

Tried to hit the ancient back log and played some God Mode, I find it insanely difficult even on easy, I guess it wasn't meant for solo and it looks like ther servers have been taken offline.  Maybe it'll get easier once I stop hoarding my earnings and do some upgrades.

Other than that, painting my Skaven, but I've suddenly taken an interest in the Flesh-Eater Court.

Haven't played anything in weeks due to holiday season & moving. However, I always make it back to Minecraft. Something very engaging about it. Not too hectic but always a new thing to work through.

Earthbound on the SNES Classic.  Amazing how much my enjoyment of that little machine increased with a wireless controller.  Also been playing a little bit of Breat of the Wild.

Games I've replayed over and over - Mass Effect 1-3, Fallout (all of them), and the Baldur's Gate games.

You could try reddit, but I've noticed some people there can be unnecessarily vicious.  Or you could try to do a kickstarter, I thought some of those that got enough attention were signed by publishers, like Allison Road did with Team 17, btw I don't know what happened with that.

If it's a simple enough game, you could always post a more barebones version on one of those free gaming sites, like Lakeview Cabin did or Town of Salem (TOS is on their own site I think).

Get the master level illusion spells and gear that reduces spell cost to zero, then legendary the skill back to 15.  Cast the one that pacifies or rallies NPC in the middle of Whiterun during the day.  IIRC you can have the skill back up to 100 within a minute or two.

Slower but not needing master level is to cast telekinesis and detect life in the middle of Riften at the same time.

Cataclysm: DDA

First death, zombies. Second death, moose. Third death, dodgy burrito.

Approaching 900 hours in Path of Exile. Still haven't made an end-game build. Still having fun.

Waiting for a rainy day in Stardew so I can propose to Maru.

This week's gaming: Stellaris and Oxygen Not Included.

I briefly reinstalled Dwarf Fortress as well, but after playing similar games with actual UIs, I just couldn't handle DF for more than a half-hour or so. (Not counting the upwards of 15 minutes it took to generate a world in the first place.)  I'm considering Rimworld to scratch that itch, but haven't committed to buying just yet.

Also, modded Minecraft. A couple of my favorite 1.7.10 modpacks got sequels/reboots this week.

2018-01-12 09:36:52 AM
I played a solid game of FTL this week.  I made it to the last ship and was on the third incarnation of it when I made a startling realization.  I had one laser based weapon.  The rest were missiles and drones.  I had gone through half the game relying on Teleport and stealth, and now I was faced with the enemy cruiser that I couldn't teleport on to.  I ran out of missiles and it cut me to pieces.  I was frustrated with myself.

I put in another couple hours on 'Human Fall Flat'.  Awesome little gem of a game.  My kids love that as well.

Clusterpuck99 - fun local multiplayer game.

The Flame in the Flood - I really don't remember picking this game up, I'm guessing a humble bundle.  I got sucked in and played it way too late.  It's a 3rd person survival adventure, some light crafting.  I don't know what to say, it was just fun, the music was good, I cared about my knucklehead.

Finished Karma: Incarnation (Both good and bad endings)
Put some time in (started for 30 minutes):
Shank, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, Loot Rascals, Lostwinds, Curses 'N Chaos.

I'm up to having played 33% of my steam library.

Question: Do the alpha / beta games count towards a goal of playing all the steam games?

2018-01-12 09:37:24 AM
Cranked Stellaris back up-have a decent game going as hive mind, which I hadn't tried before. Still tempted to just shelve it until their overhaul is released (what're people's thoughts on those changes, btw?).

Some They are Billions in there too. It's an interesting balancing act between resource management and time management-you really have to maintain momentum to succeed. You have to be very careful to only take what's viable given your current level of tech. For example, in my most recent run, I spent way too long killing zombies to expand in a certain direction, and while I'm not dead yet, I realized it had likely put me behind the long term survival curve as I quit for the night. My main gripe about the game thus far is that many of the units are completely unnecessary (at least in map 1).

Also fired up Dying Light for a bit. Had tried it last June, but it crashed every 5 min or so-didn't make it through the tutorial before returning it on steam. Bought it again during Xmas sale to try on a new video card, which has indeed fixed the problem. Interesting to note that steam maintained my progress and achievements (and time played) even after returning it.

2018-01-12 09:42:03 AM
I started a new play of Batman: Arkham City as part of my "clearing the stack" project, and it seems to be going pretty well. I plan on making a big dent this weekend with the weather going over the cliff.

2018-01-12 09:42:19 AM
Overwatch is my main vice and probably will be for a while.  I'll continue being a Mercy main/onetrick even after her next round of nerfs.

One of my New Years resolutions though is to perform my Live Midi Multibox band in Guildwars every friday night at 9pm EDT (assuming my commute allows).  I typically setup in Lion's Arch with 4 characters on harp and bass near the bank.  Songs include mostly 80s, some classic rock and some metal.
