He saw the numbers for his seat and realized that, if Romney decides to run for his seat, his goose was cooked.

Wouldn't mind it at all if Romney did run anyway, just to piss Trump off.

Romney will 100% run for Hatch's seat. He'll win, too.

Everybody's heard.

2018-01-02 03:32:53 PM
why would Trump be mad, because Mitt would mildly imply that Trump is a bad president yet vote 100% for the GOP agenda anyway?

Retire bi- oh, you are? Good.

Do it sooner, and fark you.

That probably sounds cold and harsh, but I don't think he's done much for his constituents that didn't line is pockets more.

Trump will recruit Donny Osmond to take the seat

He's delivered tax cuts for the rich....what's left to do? Fark the poor some more? Leave some leftovers for the youngsters. A little bit of time to get those payoffs.....

How would that piss Trump off? Essentially all his retirement did was swap a conservative for a conservative - anything Romney votes for would be the same thing Hatch would've voted for anyway including the tax cut. Maybe he's an iota more likely it vote for Trump's impeachment but that's about it.

As a Democrat who looks at the long game.  This could be really good to have Mitt Romney in the senate. Especially if he acts as congress is it's own branch of government and not a rubber stamp.

I'm cautiously optimistic about him being in the Senate.

I'll probably be proven wrong, but maybe not.

With this tax bill, Mitt should have the extra cash to waste on this election.
See, it's creating jobs, just like we were promised.

Sources close to Hatch are reporting that he plans to finish out his days on the pedophile apologist circuit while making time for the occasional beej to any authoritarian dictator generous enough to lower his fly for an octogenarian fundamentalist closet case.

You are looking at the political implications. Those are secondary, at best, for Trump.

How it impacts Trump's ego is most important and Romney has publicly criticized Trump. Someone that prominent who openly criticizes Trump getting elected would piss him off.

I don't think so. He's not really your run of the mill republican because he's not a treasonous farkwad. And he actually has a decent set of morals, so he's probably our best case scenario from a red state.

Trump would be mad because Mitt wouldn't swear a loyalty oath to him.  Yes, they'll work together to pass horrific pieces of legislation but Trump takes everything personally because he's an idiot.

Yes. Trump cares about things that are said about Trump in Twitter far more than he cares about the success of the GOP.

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and his wife do deserve an apology from Anita Hill, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) said Wednesday.

Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, for example, maintains a page on his web site called "Climate Change 101", in which he chides "alarmist" scientists for dodging objections by appeals to authority.

Last year, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) complained that poor people don't pay enough taxes, calling the fact that rich people pay more "perverse." (Revealingly, Hatch has offered no similar complaint about millionaires who pay no income tax.) Now Hatch has a new plan to redistribute wealth upwards: He wants to slash pensions for state and local public employees:

Orrin Hatch's legacy in the Trump era:
- changed committee rules to confirm Tom Price
- held no hearings before vote on ACA repeal
- failed to extend CHIP on time; prioritized tax cuts
- called Trump maybe the greatest president ever

Hatch was Bad and is Bad and should be remembered as Bad.

It's possible his personality is strong enough to see his role in government as an equal branch to the executive.  We haven't had many of those in the Senate. R or D.
