Someone had a deadline and needed clickbait.  40%chance?  Also, if Apple were going to buy Netflix they would have done it years ago before the market cap skyrocketed.

These people just want to speculate because Apple just HAS to do something with that pile of cash it's sitting on.  It would be legitimately un-American for them to not go on a stupid acquisition spree right now.

This is only the beginning. The next few years are going to see mergers on a scale we've never seen (unless the merger involves an entity that the president personally dislikes). This is going to result in significant layoffs, and higher prices across the board. Probably also some inflationary effects, from an extra trillion or two in cash coming in all of a sudden.

But a few richies will get even richier, so it's totally worth it, right?

Fox News Viewers would implode if Apple bought them.

1.Openly gay ceo
2.Company promotes women equally as men
3.provides amazing health insurance for it's employees
4.Pays a a fair wage.

Also Fox news has a hard on for Apple since Steve Jobs voted with his wallet and removed all Apple ads from Fox networks.

Jobs told Murdoch this to his face """You're blowing it with Fox News," Jobs told him over dinner. "The axis today is not liberal and conservative, the axis is constructive-destructive, and you've cast your lot with the destructive people. Fox has become an incredibly destructive force in our society. You can be better, and this is going to be your legacy if you're not careful."

Not selling would be like Yahoo! not selling to Microsoft.  Nothing wrong with the company (Tesla, not Yahoo! 2008), but the stock valuation is batshait.  His stockholders would hang him from a tree if he didn't sell.
/that's the reason Spacex is private

///Tesla is public, and virtually suceeded in the whole point Musk was trying to make (selling during the bubble would be the icing on the cake.

I was planning on cancelling Netflix. They  just don't have much I care about anymore. And if they ever do have something I want to watch, I'll just sign up for a month.

I already have Amazon Prime, and I signed up with Hulu a couple of months ago. Hulu kicks the crap out of Netflix (and Amazon Prime) for TV shows, and Amazon has a better selection of "free" movies, *and* Amazon has all those on-demand rentals.

What does Netflix have? The Marvel shows, I guess, though it turns out those mostly suck. Most of the other "Netflix Originals" suck. Their TV show selection hasn't changed significantly in a few years, and their movie selection is getting truly pathetic. I used to kind-of defend Netflix's movie selection, because they had a lot of interesting stuff, but it is almost exclusively straight-to-video level crap, these days.

Anyway, yeah, Apple should buy them. Because who cares?

Oh bullshiat. They were always able to bring that money back, they just didn't want to pay taxes on it.

Yea, I don't understand it either.  They can leave the money alone, and not pay anything on it, or move it here and pay a smaller tax on it.  Hmmmm, what will they do?

The article insinuates that Apple wouldn't be able to use their foreign capital for any domestic M&A, which is just weird to me. There's nothing stopping a foreign company from buying an American one, so the argument that they can't already buy Netflix because the money's abroad is dumb. And then there's the question of what the money will do once it is repatriated. Apple has already shown that it'll just sit there and do nothing but earn interest. It's certainly not going to be used to "create jobs."

This whole repatriation argument preys on the lay public's ignorance, as well as their unwillingness to think the policy through. People seem to think there is a literal pile of cash that needs to be brought back on palettes and deposited in a state-side bank for... who the f*ck knows what? If the justification is the ability to tax this pile, that's only going to apply to the interest, which will be taxed at LTCG rates anyway--which are lower than the corporate rate--, essentially reducing the taxation argument to wanting the loaf on the table so the diners can share a crumb fallen from a slice that's not going to be eaten.

So it's going to cost twice as much and have less functionality than Amazon and HBO?

/figured Amazon would buy them since they already own a piece of Netflix through AWS

Then why accumulate a quarter trillion in cash? If they don't want to use it they should give it back to their shareholders.

All Apple has to do is work out a deal that would allow users to rent TV shows or offer current TV streaming ala Hulu, and it would be over for everyone but Amazon Prime.

I have Hulu and Netflix, and I am entrenched in the iTunes garden. I love Netflix for their original content, but I'd drop Hulu like a hot brick if they weren't the only ones offering streams of current shows at a reasonable price.

As it is now I have two TV shows I can't wait for Netflix to get and will not tolerate commercials or Hulu's random crash generator (on Apple TV) for. I buy them off iTunes.

It's getting to be about time to consider legislation that prevents the tech giants from acquiring companies. Any hope of competition in the future is going to require inhibiting their ability to accrete anything that comes along that threatens their hegemony.

I imagine tech support differs vastly from development & engineering in terms of what apple wants from its employees.
