I was really torn on this game, because I both wanted the B1G to go undefeated in bowl games but also I am a Carolina fan.  However, the traditional enjoyment of watching Michigan fail (anytime it should happen) washed over me as the Gamecocks cut out the stupid mistakes and got down to business.  This is still an SEC year, no matter what.

The Fiesta Bowl was great enough for me.

Was it?

Auburn got pushed around by UCF. The final score was close, but UCF was winning in the trenches, which no one saw coming. It was like that time Utah clocked Alabama.

Harbaugh's team didn't beat anyone with a winning record this season, lost to his 3 biggest rivals and somehow gets a major bowl game. At least it was relegated to ESPN 2

Outside of Andrew Luck I have yet to see Harbaugh develop good quarterback play, even Alex Smith was basically asked to be a game manager and has since developed a lot more of his game with Andy Reid. Kaepernick's game was developed at Nevada and SF just borrowed the I-formation read option system they were running at that school - when they moved away from that his fundamentals immediately deteriorated. I've yet to see a Michigan quarterback look good at all, even when they complete passes it looks like it was a mistake that it happened.

<SIGH> Yeah that lost sucked roadkill.  But Michigan has had what...three different quarterbacks this year?  And Peters, the quarterback in the Outback Bowl, started the season as the third stringer.  So I figured some time ago that this whole season was a wash.

You know who else started a season as a third-stringer?

I'm looking mostly at the game results from yesterday evening.  Kicking the sh*t out of Clemson is crazy, just like being able to out-gun Oklahoma.  However I think Alabama has demonstrated they have got the Championship formula locked down this year: play defense (unlike the Sooners/Bulldogs) while also scoring lots of points.

I was good either way.  Wolverines win would have made it 8-0 in bowls which would have been interesting, but watching them lose brings a smile to my heart.  I'm not an SEC fanboy so I don't have to root for my conference.

Purdue finished with a winning record
The Outback Bowl isn't a major bowl

Alabama's the third best team in its own Conference and UCF is more deserving of a national championship than they will be.

No excuses.  I'd appreciate fewer shenanigans (going overseas for a few practices, random other weirdness) and a lot less hype and more focus on the job at hand.

I do think it'd be funny if Alabama won the title in Georgia's backyard, especially if it came with a patented Atlanta choke-job.

Yeah... this lack of finishing is getting old. If it continues next season, it might be time for a new coach.

If Bama is worse than Georgia, then Georgia will let us all know.  That would delight me like it would delight most people who root against Bama as a rule.

Happened to watch parts of this game and noticed some Husker fans with "Frost Warning" shirts watching the game.  That had to make them feel good that he's coming to Lincoln and, with the right signings, they might be a force in the B1G.

You know what's funny? Not haha-funny, but odd-funny. Ohio State hasn't had a B1G COTY since Earle Bruce in 1979.  They have won 2 national Championships and played for two others, which is exactly 4 more than TTUN, in that time span, and no COTY. I guess when excellence is expected, there is no need to reward it.

Seriously?

Weird. Nearly every team in the Big 10 has had a coach winning it since then. I wonder if there's some actual historic bad blood between much of the Big 10 and Ohio State football? It's hard to see tOSU not winning it during that timeframe without something behind the scenes influencing things.

Yep, he's telling the truth.  Several tOSU forums keep a count of the running joke that tOSU coaches are ineligible for the COTY award, in favor of coaches who 'overachieve'.  Ferentz is the biggest target since he's won it several times over the years, including the year when Tressel won the national title.

You forgot 1997, but your general point is well-taken.  They've had good coaching.  Maybe the award is more likely to go to the not-expected-to-win teams when they have a turnaround.

Dang it! I did forget about the voted-in half share that UM was given in 1997.  Should have stuck out in my mind since it happen so infrequently.  Haha
