I'm going to use my Nordic Track at half speed in his honor.

The 1960 Winter Olympics were in Squaw Valley, not Lake Placid.  Lake Placid hosted the games in 1932 and 1980.

He designed the track for the 1960 Olympics.  TFA didn't say where but then said he did in LP in 1980 also.  Subby is just an idiot...
  And from TFA...

Instead, he joined the Army and fought in the Pacific Theater, and also spent time in Brazil, West Africa and Sicily.

The 10th only fought in Italy/Austria. Also no mention of the 10th at all in TFA.  So subby is doubling down on being an idiot.

Mr. Broomhall otoh sounds like one hell of a man who lived a VERY full life.  RIP

/also from the 'More' section below the headline: "20 guys chosen to take a math test"  Huh?

Is there part of being an idiot you'd like to double down on?

Again, going from TFA that apparently you linked to.... no mention of the 10th & the places he went were not places that the 10th were sent to.  Now if you want to make a research project of of random threads as they come along, fine.  However don't expect others to go by anything other than the information that they were given .

It would certainly be logical that someone with his interests/experience should serve in the 10th, however logic & the military rarely go hand in hand...

Just happen to have known Chummy and was surprised that it had already been submitted.

Chummy was a good shiat and a pretty big deal in Nordic skiing in both Maine and the US. He would tell the story of one of his Olympics, the US team was still skiing on solid hickory skis. The Norwegians were going to composites and went past them like they were standing still.

Actually, thinking about it a bit more this morning I may have heard of him 'way' back in my x-country skiing days (early 80s while in HS.  Competed a couple of times/laughable finishes - kind of hard to convince parents to drive 4hr+ each way to get up to the mountains where the snow was (Sierras) only to finish in the bottom 25% regularly... ).

Hoist a beer from me in his honor the next time you crack one.  As mentioned above, he sounded like he led a hell of a full life & would be a fun guy to know if he was in a story telling mood.
