Most powerful piece in the game, too, literally cucks the hell out of the king and usurps all his power, but don't let that stop the violent left from complaining about this.

If social justice warriors keep up their social justice, I give it about fifty years, they're going to replace chess with a multi-colored version where you have multiple participants, no pieces more powerful than the others, just diversity and equality.  Sad.  So, so sad.

Why do they schedule the games in these places?

Bahamas not available?

I think it's more along the lines of King Saud decided to host a Chess Championship, and sent documents to the Chess Federation stating such, not that the Chess Federation decided to host it in Saudi Arabia.

Yeah, but the Chess Federation sanctioned it in a way that the Champion loses her title if she doesn't attend and abide by the country's restrictive rules.

It was mentioned in some other threads on this story, but I believe the reason the event is being held in Saudi Arabia is because they were the only ones who put in a bid to host the event.  No other country wanted to do it, apparently.

she's kinda being a doosh about this. The event organizers already said the dress code is business casual and does not require an abaya or veil or even a headscarf and that foriegn females can be under their own recognizance. Just like any female visitor to SA, really, but she's choosing to stamp her feet and pout over a non-issue for some reason.

And in draughts a piece reaching the opposite side of the board will be said to have "transitioned".

That isn't what the article says. Dress code at the event is black or navy outfit covering full body with a high necked white blouse. Basically everything below the chin must be covered. Also, outside the venue, need to obey the other rules of the society. The Chess Federation should have not had the event there, but I'm sure someone got paid.

I think all the players should have boycotted the event.

The president of the FIDE (world chess federation) is this guy..

Read that wikipedia about him. Then think about asking him that question.

Good for her.

The rest should do the same. Oppression and gross inequality should come at a cost, and it's a worthwhile thing to protest abuses that have long been allowed due to strategic positioning and vast oil reserves.

(I'm never running for office.)
