So the people that voted for d2s don't have drunk as an excuse.  It's just down to stupid now.

From the NIH study on the benefits and pitfalls of drinking: "while there is such a thing as a standard drink, there is no such thing as a standard drinker" (from memory, I'll look it up later)

I go through about half a liter of vodka a day. Anyone want to do the math and tell me how many drinks that is?

I didn't even have 13.6 drinks this year.

Thanks for picking up my slack, everyone!  :D

I don't drink. I smoke weed..when I have it. Used to drink a lot, but once it go so I started feeling neauseous every time I tried to drink enough to get a buzz, I quit. Simply because I hate puking more than I want to get a buzz. So now I live in a state where it's legal and smoke as often as I can.

One.

A 16 ounce glass is about half a liter, is it not?

When you figure how many people don't drink at all, it sounds heavy like Marty McFly.

Technically, somewhere between 10 and 11. More if you're drinking the real high test stuff.

Average is not very informative because almost all alcohol is drunk by alcoholics who are around 10% of the population.

The median amount drunk by all Americans is around 1 drink per 7 weeks.

What gets me are these social scientists who say that more than 4 servings of alcohol a week may be an indicator of alcoholism. Gimme a break.  My intake varies quite a bit but the I figure my average to be 30.5 servings/week.  Sometimes I go a whole week without a drink for no apparent reason and sometimes I binge out hard for days and maybe get into the 90+ range.

fusillade762: I go through about half a liter of vodka a day. Anyone want to do the math and tell me how many drinks that is?

Assuming 750 ml (a "fifth" of 80 proof) = 17 servings and you really have 500ml every day that works out to 59.5.  That's a quite lot but not too crazy.

I'm no teetotaler, but it's horrifying that 1/10 Americans drinks over 10 drinks per day. Ignoring the health and safety issues, how do they afford that?

Especially if you haven't "developed" your taste for it, I think that's pretty much the experience for everyone's first sip of the night. "Tastes like burning" is quite fitting, unless you've numbed yourself. Conveniently, a first serving does a pretty good job of that numbing.

These numbers boggle my mind too. I know a formerly full-time alcoholic, I guess there really are a lot of you getting by like that too. I'm probably just a little above the median - I go for weeks without a drop. But when I drink, it's not for the flavor, so it's generally 5+ for me in a session.

Ugh.  10 drinks a day?  I did that for about 3 months and went hard on the weekends.  Looking back, I don't know how I did it. I cut back to just weekends. I'm a little bit concerned with my liver at this point so I'm trying to let it heal it's wounds

By not living in Canada, for a start. The price of sin in the US is quite reasonable - some varieties of sin at least. When I lived in Vegas I could buy a 1.5 liter bottle of Smirnoff Vodak for $16.99, regular price. Same bottle in Canada is about US$43. Canadian-produced booze is as expensive as imported favorited!.

Nothing. It's just the sound of putting someone on ignore. Which Fark seems to find offensive somehow. The same goes for rating someone's post numerically zero out of ten.
