I saw this last night on TV; most of the Brits they asked didn't think smoking pot was such a big deal...

"British press says guards made Prince Harry do drugs"

Yeah, it says that right in there, along with the part about the hookers.

Y'mean they haven't inbred the humanity out of them all?

No, thats not actually hat it said. good work whoever posted that.
Fair play to the lad - if he has only ever done a bit of blow, thats less than 99% of the students at Eton.
Who knows - it may even do him some good.

I guess there's more than one Harry Pot-ter in merry ole England.

Its good to see the Royal family has someone to blame besides the French for a change.

Anyone else read that headline and flash back to Monty Python and the Holy Grail?

"So you want me to stand here and help him do drugs. Got it."

What few people have pointed out is that it would be pretty weird if, at age 17, he hadn't done all this stuff, and worse. Besides which cannabis, although still illegal, has been 'decriminalised' in the U.K. so you can't be nicked for posession, they won't even confiscate it.
2002-01-14 11:08:14 AM
Yeah, i'm sure they made him do it ;)

Toke it up or the kid dies!

My god! Royalty smoking marijuana... I'm shocked. Thats something only humans do.
2002-01-14 11:36:15 AM
damn, this'll probably ruin his trip to Univ. of Pitt. for the symposium on double dongs...

<sarcasm> Uh-huh, sure... </sarcasm>

They made him jerk off and lie to his parents too. Damn guards.

Royalty is dumb. Brits are stupid.
2002-01-14 11:59:27 AM
OMFG - Prince Harry is actually a teenage boy! Burn him! Burn him, I say! /scarcasm

Boy it must bite to be royalty. You couldn't pay me enough to live in that fishbowl.

Pretnar: The British also supported us after the WTC attacks unconditionally. Was that stupid?

As to why they keep the royal family - its not that they are viewed as any better than anyone else - its tradition. The lineage is a representation of British history - getting rid of the royal family would be like getting rid of the Tower of London to build a strip mall. Its the sense of being part of a nation that has endured that the British wish to maintain. I grew up there but live here and most Americans have little concept of what its like to have the strong sense of belonging that the British, and I'm sure many other European nations have. So maybe Royalty isn't so dumb.

Personally I feel sorry for Harry - who'd want his life - I think he's showing remarkable restraint, I'd want to be farked up all the time.

Wilst thou pass thy royal BONG?

(must be tough having the munchies in England, with all that rubbish they call food)

"Pretnar: The British also supported us after the WTC attacks unconditionally. Was that stupid?"

What does that have to do with the royal family? I'm just saying that having a bunch of non-functional queens and princes and pricesses and shiat that are put on some kinda ceremonial pedastal and gawked at all the time in the tabloids by most of the general populace is. . . dumb. I can't think of a better word for it. Ridiculous maybe.
And yeah, we do the same thing with our celebrities over here in the states. But often it's because they're hot and have boobies, and boobies warrant gawking.
The Brits do get things right a good amount of times, don't get me wrong. Bass Ale, for instance, is a very agreeable brew.

Okay, so you're telling me that I can carry an ounce in England and I won't get "nicked" (like that, may I use it?) and they won't even confiscate it?! Food; bad. Weather; bad. Dentalcare; bad. Beer; good. Pot; legal.
That's it! I'm moving to England!! So, who shall be the first to bring me to the local pub for a pint?

It's so sad when royalty goes astray.
I'm sure by now young Harry has tried just about everything, especially if it's pot and not just alcohol that he's fessing up to.

"Under the headline; "Harry's cocaine, ecstasy and GHB parties" the tabloid Daily Mirror revealed that the prince's friends consumed hard drugs, even though Harry himself assured his father that he had only smoked cannabis"

It really reminds me of when I used to sell crack to his mother. I wonder if Harry goes into Rehab will Elton John write a song about it? In other news, who really cares?

Foods not so bad here if you cook your own. There's no more types of pasta from Italy that they can surprise us with. Our chocolates better than yours but it's still just gunk compared to the belgian stuff.
BTW I hate haggis. Its a basic subsistence food and not by any stretch of the tongue a delicacy

pretnar: Keep up.. you said Brits were dumb -blanket statement. (read into that any assessment you wish of your own capacity to effectively state your case). They aren't. Thus the WTC comment.

If you don't understand what the royal family symbolizes that's your shortcoming. Your argument is: I don't really get it so it must be dumb. You want to tear down the Lincoln memorial because its a waste of good real estate? People just stand and gawk at it - it would be the same argument. The "monument" to their past in this case happens to be a living family rather than bricks and mortar. Also, from a purely economic point of view the royal family is worth millions in tourism revenue. Get over yourself - you just don't get it - that doesn't define it as dumb, just beyond your comprehension.

Also save me the patronizing "Brits do get it right occasionally" Britain is a great place with pretty decent people all-in-all, much like here, and from what I've seen they get it right a lot. BTW, I'm american, I just lived there for much of my life and speak from experience.

Still the royal family do strike me as a pretty humorless bunch, but that's no reason to get rid of them if you understand what their role is. Good for Harry, I say.

Being a Brit I think most of the Royal family are a bit crap, but half the problem is the media pressure and their total divorce from reality.

At the end of the day though, they do pull in a small fortune in cash, and not just through tourism - many of ther countries where royalty is still in power like to do business with other royalty, especially the Saudis and East Asia. Personally I reckon that after the Queen dies (and the oldest 20% of the British population) the royalty will end up like Swedens, being of marginal interest.

As to Harry, yeah, he's rich, but what's the point in that if the press won't let you enjoy it? Poor bastard's in for a farked up life, IMHO.
