Someone who clearly understood you can't take it with you. If I knew I going to pop off in a few weeks, I think I would splurge too.

"Someone who clearly understood you can't take it with you. If I knew I going to pop off in a few weeks, I think I would splurge too."

The tard left 505 million on the table. (math) He should have started his spending spree about 5.8 years ago.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal Mr Lewis splashed out $8 million on a 15m motor cruiser about six weeks ago and $2.2 million on two of the only three Mercedes Benz' Maybachs in Sydney in those same weeks before he died.

Somehow the headline/article is a bit less interesting if they simply read "man about to die buys boat and two cars."

Granted, they were nice, but still it's just a few items. It's not like he ran all over town buying a zillion things.

So, in conclusion, the only mildly interesting thing about this article is that the guy died. Other people are buying luxury items all the time, and that's not news.

This article sucks and I have no life.

2004-06-05 01:02:10 PM
I'm guessing he *didn't* pay extra for rustproofing.

2004-06-05 01:03:23 PM
Those Maybachs are so damn sweet. The 52 Mayback is 5.2 meters while the 62 is 6.2 meters long.

He could have left the money to charity or created a foundation in his name. Instead to blow it on ridiculus things that he couldn't enjoy anyway. This was a man who truly didn't learn any meaningful lessons during his stay here.

2004-06-05 01:06:50 PM
He should have bought about 100 tricked out, steel/cement protected bulldozers. He coulda hired local high schoolers to drive. Good times.

Here is the headline for the follow up article: Family goes on $495 million dollar spending spree, fortune frittered away two weeks later.

Bevets-chu, I choose you!
-------
Then he (Jesus) said, "Beware! Don't be greedy for what you don't have. Real life is not measured by how much we own." And he gave an illustration: "A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops. In fact, his barns were full to overflowing. So he said, `I know! I'll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then I'll have room enough to store everything. And I'll sit back and say to myself, My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!'
"But God said to him, `You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get it all?'
"Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God."

A Yorkshireman, eh?
We are known for having short arms and deep pockets.

2004-06-05 01:14:48 PM
I would have been more impressed if he had spent $10 million on some needy people/orginazations, instead of buying 3 very expensive items then dropping dead.

2004-06-05 01:16:19 PM
Isn't it ironic, don't ya think?

2004-06-05 01:30:03 PM
Pooter!,

You have quoted my favorite movie of all times!!! Kitsch so thick that viewers who brave the entire movie become disoriented for days...

"I know he can get the job... but can he do the job?!!!"

2004-06-05 01:38:41 PM
Good for him. I think having that much money saved up is a waste anyhow. Me? When I get up to about 13 mil, I spend spend spend. Then I go out on a date with Lindsay Lohan... We end up wrestling in whipped cream, but I have money, so I buy a lot of towels.

2004-06-05 01:40:24 PM
For all of you whining how he could have blown it on charity:

1. It was his frickin' money, he can spend it as he pleases.

2. After a lifetime of hard work, and it was hard work, self made man remember, why not get a chance to live a couple small dreams?

3. I think you're just jeleous, I know I am...

4. You smell bad

2004-06-05 01:46:04 PM
Im not sure if id call buying *3* items a 'spree'...

But owning a million dollar car would be mega-cool.. even if its just for a couple days.

Sucky about the death part. =/

It seems we only really know how to live when we know we are gonna die.

I demand that the tag be changed to the "Hero" one. This guy did what everyone else has always wanted, and did it with style.

But more than this, he did it... hiiiiiiiiis waaaaaaaay.

forged a property empire from tracts of land

Mr. Lewis is survived by his daughter, Princess Lucky, betrothed to Herbert.

Priceless.

"For all of you whining how he could have blown it on charity..."

Furthermore, how do you know he didn't? Maybe he left a good chuck of his wealth, or even the cars and boat he bought at the end, to charity in his will?

2004-06-05 02:39:06 PM
To the few of you whiners crying foul about him "foolishly" spending his own cash in a few last days indulgences...

The story is about what he did for himself in his last days that he knew were numbered. It doesn't go into depth over what he did for the community in the past. It also does not cover what his last will breaks down to as far as who gets what. For all we know there may be a million or two to go to charity.

2004-06-05 02:47:18 PM
...hope he bought a casket...

2004-06-05 03:09:29 PM
Is this what they mean by "Shop till you drop"?

2004-06-05 03:14:42 PM
At 500 Huge, I would "spree" every farking day and whatever day I died, they would say, "He spreed, then died the next day" - nothing coincidental about it.

And for you charity morons - charities are frauds and scams. You would do more with your money if you just burnt it. Somehow giving my hard-earned money to a crook doesn't make me feel better about myself.

2004-06-05 03:23:23 PM
For some reason, when I read "spree" I expected to find out that he managed to spend it all in a mall. I was hoping he just bought out Spencer's gifts and closed them down.
/sigh

Yoda Man!

No, it's not ironic. Now, if he had won the lottery and then died the next day...THAT'S irony!!
