"Actually, it was my friend Marty Davis from Paramount who gave me a copy of Mein Kampf, and he's a Jew." ("I did give him a book about Hitler," Marty Davis said. "But it was My New Order, Hitler's speeches, not Mein Kampf. I thought he would find it interesting. I am his friend, but I'm not Jewish.")

Two lies, one sentence.

This was one of those things that was mildly reported during the campaign but the major media arms decided emails were more important.

Those who want to live, okay, and, so many want to live, most want to live, not all, but I know some, believe me,  let them fight, and those who do not want to fight in this world of eternal, like, eternal-forever struggle do not deserve to live.

Demoralize the enemy from within by surprise, terror, okay, sabotage, assassination. This is the war of the future, believe me.

The great masses, the greatest, greatest, great masses of the people, the best people, will more easily fall victims to a bigly lie than to a small one, and I don't have a small one, okay? See these hands? I have a big lie, probably the biggest lies.

I'm just going to point out the elephant in the room and do a reverse Godwin; but Hitler was actually articulate and somewhat politically savvy. Trump is just loud, crass and lucky. Trump doesn't have the focus or the intelligence to be Hitler. It's probably a good thing that he just parrots what Breitbart and Fox and Friends say.
So yea... is this shocking? Maybe kinda, but not really; we already know that Trump has a lot of nazi-ish friends. Is it troubling? Yes. Does it mean anything? Nope, hell I bet Drumpf-Ass doesn't even know how to read.

You mean like Kushner? You mean like the Israel Zionist Lobby? You mean the ones that applauded him while he chose to support Israel over Palestine by recognizing Jerusalem? Yeah- he's a real anti-Semite.

Hitler is not burning in hell. There is no hell. Hell is something Christians invented when it was too much trouble to just follow Christ's message. On the other hand, reincarnation is part of the nature of humaniy's existence. And yes, even Hitler comes back, just as greedy for power and attention, just as vindictive and authoritative. Remember, it took Hitler more than 5 years to go from "just" discriminatory laws to Kristallnacht.

Holy crap! That swastika pendulum is one of the eeriest things I've seen in a long time.  I recall a scary movie from the 1960's called The Pit and the Pendulum. This is scarier.

I've been thinking about that book of Adolf Hitler's speeches (that Ivana Trump claimed her ex-husband kept on his nightstand) for several months now, wondering what insights D2S might have gleaned from reading it; because there is a long-standing formula for whipping up a dissatisfied angry populace against an "other," minority part of the populace, then manipulating the angry majority to take action. And I think Trump knows about this.

Nor has it escaped my attention that "The New Yorker" magazine has recently published two long reviews of books, one about Venezuela's President Nicolás Maduro, the other about the Russian Dictator Joseph Stalin; both articles detail the way each of these infamous national leaders went about consolidating their power and eliminating opposition. Spoiler alert: it wasn't pretty.

I think the smart folks - and they are very smart folks - at "The New Yorker" are trying to educate us by creating a primer on how to spot the symptoms of a budding dictatorship. Take heed America.

Also, subscribe to the "Failing New Yorker Magazine. Nobody reads it anymore. Sad!"

When the first story of Trump having a book of Hitler's speeches first broke, I didn't really think anything of it, cause I have a pdf file of The Protocols of the Elders of Zion on my phone. I'm not anti-Semitic or anything, I just thought the most racist document of all time was worth studying. Maybe Trump felt the same way? Holy shiat was I wrong!

I wouldn't be surprised if he owns both books. I wouldn't be surprised if this idiot admires Hitler as a "strong man," and likes to visualize himself as that kind of "strong man," giving inflammatory speeches to two hundred thousand people. But first, it is obvious that he doesn't read. And second, I have tried reading Mein Kampf, and his speeches, and his "table talk." All three are horrible, a tedious, repetitive bolus of rambling, devoid of insight or interest. Hitler was a windbag, telling the same stories and reciting the same crackpot stories ad infinitum. The only possible reason to read any of them is if you're a scholar and you're researching a book.

So no, he's never read either. He may have opened one and read a paragraph or two, but that's it.

We do a huge disservice by strictly limiting Hitler to being the incarnation of evil, as if he was some mustache-twirling supervillian who ended up as dictator because the plot demanded it.

He was a populist who used bitterness, blame, and scapegoating to get elected.

If more people understood his rise, maybe we wouldn't have the orange one now.

Well said.  It's for that very reason I'm reading a set of books about Hitler's rise to power (The Reich Trilogy by Richard J. Evans).  Halfway through the first book I remarked to my wife that there were some definite eerie parallels between Trump and Hitler, including Hitler calling newspapers out for "inaccurate news" and demanding apologies from them.  I told my wife I felt like Trump was reading Hitler's playbook.  "For all we know, maybe he is," and I said "I dunno, I mean..."

Fanta.

CSB:
After moving away for a year, I visited my old local pub. Security there had been taken over a group of young men who wore Viking Hammers around their necks, but were all Irish. Celtic Cross tattoos, etc.  Now, I had worn a Norse hammer around my neck for several years, because I studied runes after my family lived in Sweden for a year, and my grandfather was Danish. (Grandpa was a good Dane, but he wasn't a Great Dane.)

Anyway, after returning to this pub a year later, I noticed they had switched their soda to Fanta. My studies of WWII Germany taught me that Fanta was formulated in Germany by a Coca-Cola employee, cut off from the parent company during the war. While that German employee was not a Nazi, it is a common perception that Fanta is a Nazi beverage. And it struck me as odd that this pub changed its soda supplier around the same time this new security group took over. Then I realized those "Celtic Pride" folks wore their Hammers for completely different reasons than I was. So I have stopped wearing it.

The End.
