Pay for itself? How can you accuse Democrats for driving up the deficit if a budget pays for itself?

And this is what kind of news everybody? Say it with me...

I know it'll get out of hand, blood in the gutters, etc...

But, yeah. I don't live in one of the financial cities, so, sure. Let's do that whole French Revolution thing.
Just don't get in the way of releasing the Infinity War movie, or finishing out the last Star Wars trilogy.

Maybe you libtards should consider how many deficits were NOT increased by this tax plan.

Nope, no worries about the legitimacy of the assessment. Relax friends, you're in good hands with the GOP!

I wrote papers in my high school economics class that were longer than that.

Ok, probably about as coherent, but still...

It's beautiful to see Louise Linton with her one true love, and also Steven Mnuchin.

Mnuchin has repeatedly pledged that more than 100 career staff members were "working around the clock on running scenarios"...

And the results of their efforts are a one page memo!? The Republicans are right. Government mismanagement is costing this country tremendous amount of money.

If that's the case let's see the notes they took.

Show your work.

"Mnuchin has repeatedly pledged that more than 100 career staff members were 'working around the clock on running scenarios'"
then you suck at your job and so does your team if that's the level of effort it takes to run a simulation model.

Wow, what a miracle. Pays for itself and then some. All you need to do is change the value in cell M-13 from 2.2% to 2.9%. I mean - while you're at it why not go all the way to 5%?

He had 100 career staff members run scenarios, all of which ended up with a result he didn't want. So he had his secretary put together a one page slide.

This was just a Herbert-esque plan. First the release a one-page analysis that is so patently poorly written, tricksy, and false that nobody will believe it. Then they release the genuine analysis that shows the plan will go poorly, but everyone says "AHA! You thought we would believe you, Dept. of Treasury! Not going to believe this one either! The Plan WILL pay for itself after all!"

After that, it's just Chex Mix in Liberace's face.

Well, at least they didn't use one of the earlier drafts.
That one was really lacking in details.

I wonder if you can FOIA for the GS rank and time records for the staff members who were "working around the clock" to produce the memo.

Something like that would have hundreds of pages of charts and footnotes even if the result was simply, "No, this will not make the deficit bigger."

Of course.

The key intuition of modern (since about 1980) Republicanism, Neo-Conservativsm, Neo-Liberalism or whatever the Fark the Alias it is calling itself today may be, is this:

"Reagan proved that deficits don't matter" (Dick Cheney)

"We are an Empire now. We make our own reality" (Karl Rove)

"Trump proves that facts and logic don't matter. Scream Fake News and disappear under the cover of a smoke screen of lies. Sorry, I mean alternative facts. Cognitive-dissonance. Post-Truth politics. Truthiness. Colbert deserves the credit for reviving that old word and we should honour him by using it as much as we can even in the face of more devious and meaningless blather.

That is it (Post-Conservative Fascism) in a nutshell, as the Golden Rule is Judeo-Christianity in a nutshell.

Republicans have only one idea but it is a lulu. Steal somebody's credit cards and put everything you want on somebody else's tab.

When Mommy's purse and Daddy's wallet are empty, you can always take up grifting. Rob your church, your school, you synagogue or your mosque. Proceed to rob your Party, the neighbours, the poor, the middle classes and anybody who hasn't got the time, the money, the viciousness or the force to defend themselves.

Not since the time of the Bysantine Empress Theodosa (a circus performer, which is to say, a whore) or the dim son of an Emperor Justinian has the few looted so many so thoroughly. Read Procopius. It is full of fun facts and weirdness. Like the guy who saw the Emperor without a face. Literally. Just a blank white mask where the face should be.

Was Justinian a robot or cyborg? An alien? A demon? a maggot? You be the judge.

At least he was NOT fake tan Guido orange.

Dear God I hope that's not how Trump runs his businesses.  There are departments that put together probability scenarios, calculate standard deviations from anticipated sales numbers, and determine the Net Present Value of the project based on that information.  A 1-page analysis wouldn't cut it on a simple 3-scenario word problem in a Finance course.  But Lord knows most of Trump's supporters don't know that.

They probably had a few hundred pages of memo detailing exactly how stupid the idea that tax cuts pay for themselves is. Munchkin the took the one page about how how crazy a scenario is require to meet their target, rettitled it and sent it out.

The tax bill, in combination with the rest of the White House economic agenda, will not only generate enough new revenue to pay for the tax plan, but generate an additional $300 billion over a decade.

It's amazing how perceptive one can be of a problem when they're the one causing it.

"The government wastes too much money. Why the pay me over 100k a year and I don't do squat."
"It's too easy to game the welfare system. Look at me, I don't need it and am totally stealing from it."
"People are too mean and self centered. I should know, I'm a mean spirited human dumpster fire."

etc, etc, etc...
