(Lifehacker)   Marcus Aurelius made an excellent point why you should put internet trolls onto your ignore list. That's especially impressive if you consider that Fark wasn't even around 2000 years ago   ( lifehacker.com) divider line

What good is putting them on ignore, if Fark still displays everyone replying to their bullsh*t?

Really now? Hmm...havent discovered that setting yet. I generally mark them in the darkest grey farkie color, it'd be lovely if the obscuring color carried on to the quoted text when someone quotes a farkied user.

You haven't really been egregious enough to get put on ignore, from what I've seen. I just put a few choice quotes from you in your farkie bar to remind me of your particular brand of sh*tposting.

I colour code everyone (who matters). It makes for a trippy read in really controversial threads.

Well, that was rude.  I demand you put me on "ignore"!

There are no trolls on Fark so this headline makes no sense.

My ignore list has grown over the last year.  Even shrub supporters couldn't get on my ignore list.  Support a child molester and a traitor though and you will be silenced on my feed.

It's not useful if someone on your ignore list has a username that is commonly seen in regular sentences or words. Either you have to see when people reply, or you miss half a thread's normal posts because someone you ignored has a common word as their name.

The cucumber is supposed to be bitter, apply salt. If the path gets blocked by thorny plants, not clearing them surrenders the path to the thorns. Marcus Aurelius often annoys me. There's being stoic about things, then there's being a surrendering ninny.

Honestly this place would be boring as shiat without the trolls. Just a bunch of old men jerking off on how right they are about everything no matter the subject. And the 3 women that are constantly having their boots licked by them

if you ignored trolls, they would all go away (or likely just stop trolling and go back to pointless debating).  Not only would that end fark, it would end discussions for the most part.  Nobody is swaying anybody here, ever.  Everyone already has their preconcieved notions, they come here to fight or to reinforce their own beliefs in an echo chamber.  Same here as in 4chan and many many other places.

Mind you it would be awesome if we ignored trolls.

Its not always possible to spot the troll however.  Trolling implies they know better than what they are saying.  Can you ever be sure?

I don't have any red.  They are all on ignore due to:

Putting Obama in Everything
Putting Trump in Everything
Putting Hillary in Everything
Being An Asshole

I have surprisingly few categories.  I also have greens, but they are labeled on a case-by-case basis.

I've always flagged them in different colors. People I typically enjoy conversing with regardless of political affiliation or leanings get various colors (lots of green, some red, some blue, some tan/offwhite, and myself in purple). People I typically despise conversing with get international alert orange and almost always the tag of "Shameless Flamer." Sadly, my list of people in orange is about four times as long as my list of people in all other colors.

Dude is really stoic these days. Haven't heard him complain in a few thousand years straight.

2017-12-07 04:18:30 PM
Oh, Fark was around two thousand years ago. It was scratched into the seats of the public latrines.

In those days men were willing to sit and take a dump in a long row, in public, with no booths, and without shame pulling up their togas to take a long, noisy, smelly dump and bore the ears off of the next three guys on either side of them.

Worst job in Ancient: the government slave holding the bucket full of wet sponges on sticks.

Best imaginary defence if you were a slave in this job:  pretend they are shish-kabobs and that the citizens are shish-kabobbing themselves.

Some times I wonder about me. Who am I? How do I know all this detailed crap about life in Ancient Times? How do I know that Achilles carried a love of wearing women's clothing to the grave? Well, I guess that is just common sense. But really. How did a learn what a whiffle tree is?

These are all valid points. But some trolls only open their mouths and spew crap that doesn't even constitute an argument. Putting a string of letters together that constitutes something like "NO YOU!" just wastes other people's time, so the ignore function becomes an efficiency.

There are settings in your profile that allow you to either ignore the user's comments but see they still posted, ignore the user completely including comments or ignore the user completely including their comments and anyone replying to them.
