HBO needs to offer fans a chance to see the finale in the theatre. Even if it's a money grab 6 months later.

When we saw the season finale a few seasons back up on the big screen, it was the experience turned up to 11.

Given the quality of writing last season, I'd rather they take their sweet time.

Well, it takes a long time for the paint to dry and extricate oneself from the corner.

Seems reasonable considering how ever single scene, shot, word of dialogue and plot point  is going to disected and scrutinized by the internet.

I say take your time and I hope the writers, directors and actors get a chacne to end the show how they want and then we can take the following year to destroy it one Internet discussion at a time.

FTA:
But ultimately the reason for the pushback seems to stem from GoTshowrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss simply looking to take their time and make the final season as epic as possible. The Emmy-winning duo explained previously they wanted to spend a year and a half making the fantasy show's climactic round.

If that is their reason then good for them. I wish that companies that cancelled other shows gave them a chance to do a proper send off (I would have liked to have seen a non-rushed closer for Eureka, fark you Comcast).

I guess the clout of being GoT lets the showrunners indulge to the fans' benefit.

Problem is, between Trump & Un not to mention the Jerusalem thing, we may not have that much time.

George RR Martin is not a role model, dammit.

"How about 7 episodes instead of 10?"
"go on..."
"then make them wait 2 years for the finale"

When was it originally going to come out? I thought 2019 was always going to be the plan.

Oh well, at least this gives George some additional time to finish up the last two books before the last episode of the show airs.

He needs to spend more time writing and less time shopping for Greek fisherman hats.

It is going to take about that long to get people to forget how far this show has plunged in quality the last 2 seasons. This is going to end worse than Dexter.

I really enjoyed that show.... but I don't think I watched the last two (3?) seasons....really was going off the rails.... should I bother to finish it?

If I haven't lost interest by then, I might consider giving HBO a little money for 2 months

Nope. After Lithgow's season it starts to become the Dexter's sister show and pretty much ruins all the characters with pointless side plots.

That and Amazon has a ton of older HBO stuff available whenever.

With the extended episode lengths, they're basically going to be making six short action movies.  That takes time.

I wait that freaking long, Jon Snow had goddamned better be on the throne.

Little Jon Snow did NOT barely tolerate that Targaryean neccklace for nothing.

Yeah, my husband said that, too,  I said, "our older cat is Little Jon Snow. I have invested years in this show.  They have me by the tits to see how it ends."

(The younger one is Little Pronasis Cassidy... from Preacher. Not sure that show will have an end, but I briefly had Mr. not TV watching it and naming the kitten I wanted to rescue Cassidy was a bonus.  I call him Cassy, just like Tulip does.)

P/S TV Tulip kicks the shiat out of comic Tulip.

It's not that. In past seasons, episode arcs were about characters in five different locations. That meant five crews were working simultaneously putting elements of the show together. The Tyrion scenes, Jon Snow scenes, and Dany scenes were being shot at roughly the same time, which was very efficient.

Now, all the main characters are going to be in 2 places. With the expanded episode lengths, that means this season, they really are having to shoot 6 feature length movies with fewer people. So naturally, it's going to take longer.

I think the news here is "This season, there's a new threat, and all of a sudden she finds herself somewhat back in the deep end. And without Littlefinger, it's a test for her of whether she can get through it ... This season is more a passionate fight for her than a political, manipulative kind of fight."

WTF happened to the Night King? There's a threat that's bigger than that creepy fark? Or maybe they just jettison that plot line in a blaze of flame like they did with the high sparrow.
