Beer still exists. But it isn't being used to make butanol. You directly ferment butanol from various feedstocks, including the various grains and even some non-food plants, like switchgrass or sweet potatoes.

For butanol to become viable, it needs buy-in from a few fleet contracts that operate their own fueling stations.
