I'm pretty sure they ended up in modern Manhattan, after what transpired in "Land Before Time XXIV:I Love New York"

Decades of research, THEN 25 papers at once?  fark you, buddy.  Way to keep "your" discovery out of the hands of other scientists.

I'm still baffled on how awesome and dark the first movie is before it went coyingly musical. I was 5 when I liked the 2nd.

/I wasn't upset when watching the first movie as I was too young and confused. Ditto with Bambi.

That is fairly standard in the field of paleoanthropology. Heck not allowing non-lackeys to see a fossil first published decades ago is rather common.

But that being said, it should be noted that most of the wait for this fossil really was excavation and cleaning the skeleton from hard rock encasing it which really did take many man-years of work.  This is not like the Rising Star Cave finds were the bones were in a fine silt or even just laying on the surface.  That being said, there is also the idea that one simple must publish everything at once or horror of horrors you are doing slipshod incomplete work. It is clear that the skull was freed up years ago.  I would have suggested having skull experts to a detailed skull publication while work freeing the rest of the body continued.  Indeed I've known that Clarke intended to describe this find as Australopithecus prometheus instead of A. africanus for the better part of a decade and yet the justification for this waits with the initial mass publication.

/All things said, the initial deduction from a handful of foot bones that a skeleton had to be present was simply magnificent.
