As much as I loathe and despise Darth Hoodie, Dark Lord of the Pigskin, I cannot argue with this. The job of Head Coach of the New England Patriots is his until he decides he wants to retire, dies, or finishes 2-14 for three straight years, whichever happens first.

The Rooneys have been straight up loyal to coaches my whole life, and that's like 150 years.

In other news, Ryan Shazier is back in Pittsburgh at UPMC Presby. Encouraging that he was able to be moved so soon.

Yup. I detest and loathe that shiatbag.

But I also am gobsmacked and completely and totally in awe of his program. He's arguably the second greatest football coach of all time behind only Lombardi himself. It's absolutely STUNNING what he's built there.

He had Matt farking Cassel win 11 games FFS. That's like replacing your F1 driver right before LeMans (with your mother in law) and still taking third place.

As much as I've been lucky to see how successful the Patriots have been over the past 15 years, I remember very well how much they sucked pre-Tuna. At one point in the Nineties, the Pats were going to be moved to Saint Louis. The original owners, the Sullivans, were so inept, they were the backers for a Michael Jackson Tour (when MJ was BIG) and they lost money.

My point is, when Brady and Belichick are finally gone, I fear how bad the Patriots could be.

Yeah  I usually joke that the Pats could plug my grandmother and her walker at free safety and she'd be in the Pro Bowl after her second season (see:all the Pats trades who proceed to suck elsewhere). It's not just the coach. It's the front office. That team latched onto a rare, passing  comet of combined talent, so of course they'll keep doing it until they retire at will.

Yep, and the Pats know *exactly* when to cut someone loose, which is right when they realize that they can no longer polish a particular turd hard enough to disguise the turd as being anything other than a turd (a particularly nasty, rancid, steaming turd at that), but they will be damned if they won't get some effective use out of that turd before dropping it in the bowl without flushing it down.

York, Spanos, Snyder, Kroenke, and Haslam all should be fired out of a cannon, straight at the face of a granite cliff. Repeatedly. Along with the Dolan clan and a particular idiot in Florida named Loria (not NFL owners, thank god, but also deserving of serving as cannon rounds).

If the criteria for the top category is "he needs to win the next four games to keep his job" like the article said, Jim Caldwell needs to be at the top of the list. If he doesn't win at least the next five, he needs to get blown out.

Pete Carroll should be in the same category as Belichick. Not only will he never get fired, if there's even the slightest hint he's thinking of moving on or retiring they'll institute a new political order and vote him Emperor of Seattle. When he dies they'll try to make a cyborg version of him that will chew gum on the sidelines forever.

Matt Cassel went 10-5 as a starter that year. Two years later, as a Chief, he went 10-5 as a starter and went to the Pro Bowl.

You're very much right.

One of the reasons so many organizations stay so sh*tty is a lack of leadership, focus, and willingness to stick with a plan.

You can't tailor your team to an ideology, then change the ideology the next year and expect to be good. Then change it again.

As I was told by some scouts I used to work with, 10% of NFL players, at most, will be successful no matter where they go. Everyone else is a case of getting them in the right position with the right people around them.

You can't fit people in the right spaces if you're constantly changing which puzzle you're putting together.

I hear a lot of questioning of Bevell and Cable, but not of Carroll. More like "in Pete we trust". And you can't blame Seattlites, he's turned the team from a joke into a playoff team every year. I'm old enough to remember the 80s and 90s, no one wants to go back to that.

Sorry mate, I was goin' off memory. 1 game less is still pretty good.

But you see the point I (and others) make. It's absolutely absurd what Bill has built up there. I can actually identify quite a bit.

Since 1991, I've had Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers at QB. I'm absolutely farking spoiled goddamned rotten. When Aaron is done, we've got some serious rebalancing to do. Yea, the 70s and 80s sucked, but the 60s we were the best of the best.

We're about 10 years into the black right now, and after A A Ron, the looming 'red years' are gonna SUCK

But that's what the folks in New England need to start looking for. Tawmy *will* break down at some point. Someone WILL be dumb enough to let Patricia or McDaniels be a HC (again, in Josh's case) (and a dump truck of money is a BIG motivator, especially when you already HAVE multiple rings), or Bill at some point will just say "fark this, I'm out"

When one or all of those happen, it's back to Brownsville baby, and it ain't gonna be pretty

Exactly. We need a new face to rebuild.

'Thanks John! Much appreciated! Have a good retirement, bro!'

Peyton and Von fell into his lap, he's been more lucky than good as GM. And he's been REALLY bad at his job a bunch of times.

They didn't win that SB because of the HoF QB. They were positioned to be very successful for the next few years and decided to go with not having a QB at all.

Gosh, if only there had been a QB who had experience taking teams with good defenses to the Super Bowl that was available...
