I was pleased to see that he questioned it instead of just depositing it.

Because it's a universal benefit for the elderly. Means testing it would add an extra layer of bureaucracy that would seriously cut into any savings that might be made and folk such as Plant should be paying enough in tax to offset it anyway.

This. This government has bought up means testing for some benefits, and they're slammed for it. I agree that it shouldn't go to the well off, but you can be sure that any system they bought in would have a bunch of people who deserve it being rejected.  I thought the poll tax was a fairer system than the old rates but the backlash killed that.

Incredible.  There's actually an outtake from Zeppelin II about something like this. There was a song that originally began:

You've been coolin', baby, I'm not foolin'
I'm gonna send ya, a check for heating assistance

But the meter was all farked up so they went back to the drawing board. True story.

While technically, its correct that the article calls him a  'multi-millionaire', dude is actually worth 170 million.

In fact, ripped up a contract worth 800 mill for the band to get back together.

Didn't work out for Kingdom Come.  Their third album is pretty amazing and the singer did all of it IIRC (vocals, bass, guitar, drums).

Odd how it seems to be possible to means test the benefits of those who don't normally vote Conservative...

I heard them for the first time about a month ago. The DJ totally got me ( and a few others I would wager ) as he said "new led zeppelin and they have a show at the Troubadour on Thursday night" after a song.

Interesting you brought up Kingdom Come.  I have their hit, "What Love Can Be" on my big everyday random playlist.  Pretty good Zep tune, though a little more polished and less raw/rough/wild than Zep itself.

Anything else by Kingdom Come worth a listen?  I take it you recommend the 3rd album, or are you talking about Greta again? I'm a little confused there.  It's hard for a classic rock guy to find new tunes these days.

Yeah, Greta Van Fleet might be limited by how much their brother sounds like Plant.  Maybe he can take a different tack and find his own voice, literally and figuratively.  For as young as they are, the seem very intelligent and mature.  Hope they do well for themselves.

In the way that you're sending me dough
Buyin' fuel is precedent
As the furnace starts to glow
You know it's not right, I said it's not right
You know it's a waste of cash
iat's not my money, it's not my money
Now where's my bangers and mash?

Their 3rd album is great IMHO.  It's called "Hands of Time".  There second "In Your Face" is not great.  I liked their self titled debut, much like I enjoyed Coverdale/Page.  I know their lead singer was a control freak and I think they released a bunch of additional albums, but the first three are the only ones I have, but I really like the 3rd.  It's one of those albums I've played countless times, but I don't know a single person (other than my brother, who gave it to me) that has even heard of it.

This is pretty representative of the album as a whole.

Is that they guy from the band than sings about hobbits or the guy with the semi-androgynous girl band backing him up?  I always confuse the two.

Kingdom Come has quite a few not-well-known albums as well. I really like the last couple:
- Blues and Ballads [2008]
- Outlier [2013] the very last one ever, more of a solo album but still very cool.
- Rendered Waters [2011], mostly remakes of their old hits. Much better recording than the originals. And the line "Does anyone remember this one?" before the big one is pretty cool for breaking out with your old buddies.

I had their first album when I was a kid. My uncle got it for me for Christmas or something (he was in a metal band...played cbgb's a few times way before I knew that was cool. Yes, I know everyone plays cbgb's...or did). I loved that album and had completely forgotten about it until I read your post. I immediately pictured the album cover when i read it and did a quick wiki to confirm.

Now I'm going to download it and enjoy some nostalgia! Thanks man!

Get It On was the closest I'd heard anybody come to Zeppelin until GVF.  However GVF doesn't have the heavy reverb and 80's style Marshall JCM 800 sound that Kingdom Come did.   In addition to aping Plant's voice the guitar player also match's Page's Les Paul tone and licks and the production of their songs is very 70s retro.

I would also say the bombastic drum into is very Bonham like.

The only universal benefits left are the ones for pensioners. Every other benefit is means tested. Rich pensioners get a bus pass, pension and winter fuel payments as standard while everyone else has to go through a bureaucratic and degrading system.

Possibly because pensions are (a) in theory earned by a lifetime of working and paying into NI and (b) if you're retired there isn't a lot you can do to earn more. If you're thirty then get a better job you lazy bastard! (Not official government policy". If you're eighty then there's not a lot you can do.
As for "degrading" I was unemployed ten years ago and claimed Jobseekers. It wasn't fun but it wasn't "degrading". It's supposed to be a safety net, not a lifestyle choice.
Income tax is "means tested", should we scrap that? And have a shelf stacker at Tesco pay the same income tax as the CEO?
