Zakarisz Ghent.

Yeah, and for anyone who didn't know already, "Slicer" is Star Wars-speak for "Hacker".

Yeah, for a company that "isn't using the EU" Disney sure is making the entirety of the game continuities part of real continuity at a record pace.  Slicers didn't exist outside of the tabletop until the video game that adapted the tabletop (KotOR), but apparently the Disney continuity started dropping the word in main-continuity products almost immediately (the obsessively-detailed wiki says it was brought into the new canon in 2015 in a novel and mentioned offhand in both of the movies somewhere, though I blinked and missed the latter apparently).

Uh, Ghent, the slicer in the Thrawn novels (and appeared in later novels too). . .that's where the term even came from in Star Wars.

KOTOR came out 12 years after Slicers were introduced to Star Wars. . .they didn't even appear in the RPG until Heir to the Empire introduced them.

I wonder if his character exists just to get thrown down a trash chute? And you have to buy the books and comics to find out what a badass he is.

Star Wars is a bubble and Disney went all in thinking they can maintain and grow the interest in the franchise for years to come.

Who would argue that half the sales of Force Awakens was due to nostalgia?  Has Disney produced anything fresh to keep the momentum going?

Hell, the best part of Rogue One was Vader's finale. Nerds aren't going to ride the gravy train forever without some original content.

The Last Jedi's opening weekend completely sold out at my theater of choice 3-4 weeks before opening.  Movietickets.com is reporting that Last Jedi presales are outselling ACTUAL ticket sales of Justice League and Coco combined this week.  I don't think they are worried about the future.

Slicers already exist in current canon.

Outside of the Rebels cartoon? They could change their mind about that one at anytime.

Did they mention one in Rogue One? I might have missed if they did.

It's been mentioned in a bunch of places.  http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Slicer .

I did notice they used the term "hack" or "hacker" once in Battlefront 2 (I think) and I was taken aback.  Immersion ruined.

Ah, I get it. Sorry. I'm saying this is a term never used in the movies before The Last Jedi, that I know of. Not that it hasn't shown up before in the expanded universe (games, cartoons, and such). They were everywhere before Disney ditched the canon, and started their own. I think Rebels has mentioned a couple, but I'm behind on it. Still haven't seen the Thrawn stuff.

They should as Last Jedi is going to have to rely much more on original content.  Nostalgia train is slowing down.

I don't think anyone went to see Force Awakens for Rey.
