(Pro Football Talk)   Nathan Peterman's five interception first half was not as bad as you think. Fark: if you tally his stats as though he was the Chargers' QB   ( profootballtalk.nbcsports.com) divider line
More: Fail, passer rating, pro-Nathan Peterman camp, re-embraced quarterback Tyrod, interception return yardage, franchise quarterback, coach Sean McDermott, touchdown pass, general vicinity

What was the worse performance: these five picks in a half, or Matt Barkley's 3 picks when he replaced Nick Foles with less than 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter?

Joining his fellow Buffalo soldiers on the field of battle for the first time was as nervous an experience the young lad had ever known; add to that his assumed role as field general and one could expect no less outcome than that which occurred. Chargers from the opposition flanked his every move and outwitted the young commander, forcing mistake after mistake as confusion pressured his decisions. Morale lost and his confidence shattered, he was stripped of his commission and replaced by a veteran officer, his senior, returning him behind lines to lick his wounds and fight off the chill of battle lost. But he would not need to fight off the chill of the bench with this Buffalo Bills seat cushion. Perfect for keeping the posterior warm while sitting on the bench. $90, available in both Blue or Red.

Dependable. Reliable. He wanted to be all this an more for his colleagues and friends. This would be his time to lead, and his time to shine. But the fates had other plans as they swirled around him and haunted his every move. His destiny was elsewhere they screamed, as the confusion and self-doubt set it. His time here would be short, and not within his own control. A young man's dream of being someone solid... someone to lean on... were lost in a scant 30 minutes. But he needn't look far for something solid to lean against with this Buffalo Bills clipboard. Perfect for holding on the sidelines. $80, in wood or plastic.

Nate Peterman's performance was abysmal.  That being said, he was somewhat thrown to the wolves not having a full week of practice on a road game against a pretty decent defense.  I don't know that you can completely write him off, but he certainly needs some work before he gets another opportunity.  Buffalo set him up for failure, and he ran with it.

Daedalus27: Buffalo set him up for failure, and he ran with it.

In all fairness, it wouldn't have been nearly as bad a result if he ran with it.

I don't get the Bills' attitude towards Tyrod Taylor, who has been an adequate starter and sometimes better than an adequate starter. Under two different coaching regimes it's been pretty clear that they've been looking to move on from him.

In this case it reflects very badly on Sean McDermott. One interception, two interceptions, even three -- that can be nerves or it can simply be three isolated bad plays. Five interceptions means Peterman isn't ready to see NFL game action, and that's something that a head coach can and should ascertain from seeing him in practice.

Really, Pro Football Talk?  Really?  You're takin' the food right out of my mouth here, seeing as I posted the exact same thing in the NFL discussion thread on the very same day of the Peterman Disaster:

In Super Bowl XX, New England QB Tony Eason was 0/6, no interceptions, and his passer rating was 39.6.

Ryan Leaf vs. the Chiefs, 1 of 15 for 4 yards, 2 picks

Someone should tell the Bills that the Giants have 2 wins, 49ers 1 win, Browns 0 wins. If they're tanking for a high draft pick, they're doing it about as well as they do everything else.

But seriously, that no one in the Bills coaching staff has been fired in the past week tells you just how good it is to be white.

And that one completion was his first pass of the game.

He did better than a certain other QB who is available on the FA market would have...  I have been assured this for what were surely football reasons.

11 of 14 is pretty good. Okay, five were caught by the wrong team, but still.
