Well shiat, now how will I watch Star Trek Discovery?

I kind of like "Young Sheldon." It's pretty entertaining. I love that Annie Potts is the grandmother. I've missed her since Designing Women days. And "Life in Pieces" is good. Dianne Wiest and James Brolin have such good chemistry that Tina Fey brought them together in one of her movies.

But we can torrent when one of the networks has a fit with a satellite or cable provider now, which seems to happen all the time. It's interesting how Canadian television seems never to have these types of disputes with American programming, and they probably pay a lot less to broadcast them. American Armoured Wankball (NFL) is the deciding factor in all this stupidity. You can keep it.

Dear CBS,

If you want to keep viewers, stop devoting every primetime 7-9 viewing block to saccharine-loaded, laugh-track crap and dartboard-written drama series'.

It's almost as if they intentionally make boring TV so that people fall asleep in front of their sets, thus accidentally leaving it on all night.

Happens pretty much every year around Thanksgiving, Super Bowl and NCAA Basketball tourney.  They time it for maximum outrage from views who are facing the crisis of missing something "must see".

CBS still broadcasts for free over the air

So dish/cable subscribers pay to watch commercial-supported CBS, and now CBS again wants them to pay even more?

More power to them - I'd never have believed anyone could pull off such a deal.

When five out of the top 10 rated shows are "saccharine-loaded, laugh-track crap and dartboard-written drama series", I don't think CBS is very concerned about losing viewers.  http://www.nielsen.com/us/en/top10s.html

After working for the cable company for two years, network renegotiation time always annoyed me because a storm of angry elderly people called in asking why the channels were being taken away without any understanding of the situation.

Since it's exclusive to their streaming service... that way. Or just not watch it, because it's beautiful but bad.

Big ol' THIS. We switched to Direct TV Now early on so grandfathered in at a crazy cheap rate, and while their software leaves a bit to be desired (but is getting better) they now have local ABC, FOX and NBC for our Atlanta market. CBS comes in so crystal clear on all of our TV's with an antenna.

//oh, and as for shows like ST: Discovery? Well.......ahoy.

You watched Scorpion? How?

That show oozes all of that douchebaggery of the guy behind it, and tops it off with terrible writing and worse acting.

It is more egregious "nerd blackface" than BBT, but it is harmless fun.

I love "Young Sheldon", but I have to temper it with the realization that the cute kid grows up to be the asshole that is Sheldon Cooper.

Thanks to "The Orville" and other counter programming, we've been missing "Life in Pieces". We caught it the first few seasons, and we love it.

If you live in an area geographically suited to OTA broadcasts, sure.  I looked into it in my area.  If I get a big enough antenna, I might get a PBS station.  If I get a good directional antenna, I can choose between pointing it in one direction and getting one network, or another direction to get a different network.  Maybe.  If the weather is good.

OTA broadcasts are just not feasible in some areas.

Why should they give a shiat what backroom blowjobs are being given by execs?

Round here you better have a decent set of movies, cause right when you want it most, when its snowing outside, is when its guaranteed that the directv dish will load up with snow and quit working.

Le$ Moonve$ Just jettisoned it's radio division, now he wants more from Dish. I don't know who to root for.

What's funny is that Dish never holds back from dropping channels the moment the contract expires, and yet the networks always think that (A) there's no way they'll actually do it, and (2) that the 1-800-PLEASE-KEEP-US phone numbers they run will have any effect other than annoying people as they're trying to watch TV.
In the end, Dish says f*ck you, the network eats a little sh*t (unless they're Disney-owned), and everything goes back to normal.

Some of them are directly the fault of the networks running ads in the local papers that are pretty much just "WHY ISN'T (carrier) SHOWING YOUR FAVORITE SHOWS AND NETWORKS? ☹☹☹CALL THEM RIGHT NOW WITHOUT INVESTIGATING FURTHER AND DEMAND THEY DO WHATEVER THE NETWORKS WANT THEM TO!"

/Notice that they don't even mention that the carrier even has a reason for the outage

CBS? This is the only show I care about on their network besides live sports and I get the BitTorrent version as it has all the commercial breaks stripped out:

This. We're at 7200 feet and just about equidistant between PHX and ABQ. When I was a kid, if the atmospheric conditions were just right, we could pick up KGUN 9 in Tucson, and it was really snowy. With digital broadcast now, you can't pick up anything. Our Mormon-run "cable company" was run out of business like 15 years ago when the sheriff and the FCC found their illegal satellite setup in the woods. They were running the entire town's signals through a series of physical coax cables and splitters from the dishes. And they got away with it for a decade. So now everybody has Dish, DirecTV, or just Netflix.

And at a maximum speed of 6mb/s, a home with really good, old copper wiring can get a decent streaming speed (which includes us) on DSL. It's juuuust fast enough to get a really clear picture on my 720p plasma TV. But don't even try to download anything while you're watching Netflix.
