OdradekRex: Gee, and here we wondered why Trump's red line with Mueller's investigation was his real estate deals.

Listening to MSNBC on the way in to work this morning they were talking with a reporter who is doing a piece on this and TPO's line was "we haven't had anything to do with the resort that has our name on it".  Other than all the money they've made off it.

Maybe he's smart with just licensing his name.  But I really wonder how much his name is worth now vs what it was worth a year ago, and what it will be a year from now.

Having a billionaire in political office is IPSO FACTO, conflict of interest. There is no excuse for any person to pretend to be blind to the corruption which inevitably flows from mixing Big Money with democratic government.

Send all the millionaires and billionaires to jail. Start with major league sports and work your way through Congress, the White House, lobbies, special interests, and Pay for Play Politics.

The Trump Organization has plummeted 37 places in one year on a list of the largest private NYC companies; public filings show its reportedly worth one-tenth of the value that it was in 2016.

Good.  What I find interesting is that losing 90% of it's value in a year only drops them 37 places down the list?

At the beginning of the year, some Indian investors came to Washington to check out the new Trump Hotel and see if they wanted to invest.  I'm sure it was scheduled many months before.  Afterwards a reporter asked them what they thought and if they would invest.  I don't remember the exact response but it was along the lines of "Of course we're investing in the President's hotel.  How stupid do you think we are?"

And by "gave" we mean purchased units. And by "Trumps Panama resort" we actually mean a licensed resort .  And by "Report" we mean a rehash story from a dubious source that a drug runner purchased units at this resort. and by "may face investigations"  we mean "were just going to throw that line in there cause it makes everything sound super cereal"

One of Trump's companies was the real estate developer.  The real estate developer typically provides the bulk of the financing, takes the greatest risks and reap the greatest rewards.  Let's not pretend he's just licensed his name to this venture.

I'm not pretending to know the specifics in this situation, as I haven't audited the businesses in question, but at one point one of his corporations was involved heavily and substantively.  I'll wait for the followup.

Danger Mouse: And by "gave" we mean purchased units.

Um... I mean... that's how money laundering works. You have to actually spend your dirty money on something at some point. You literally can't do it any other way. Real estate is a popular choice.

As for it merely being "licensed," that's how Trump makes a lot of his money. FTFA: "Trump has made $13.9 million from the Ocean Club in the last three years alone." I don't know if that's a flat fee or a percentage, but either way he has a vested interest in its continued prosperity.

You don't have to think that Trump was personally unloading the sacks of dirty money from the FARC guy's car to understand why people might be interested in all the shady transactions Trump's businesses and business associates seem to be involved in. There are lots of resorts out there that aren't fronts for drug/kidnapping money.

An environmental watchdog group:  Global witness reported that a drug deal bought condos at the Trump Panama resort.     Talking Points Media (TPM, a very leftist liberal news rehasher) picked up the story, and spun it in their "Muckraker" section and  implied that this could be a part of deep money making scheme by Trump. (And it is, he licensed his name to a resort so they could sell condos).

Trump is obvious guilty of something here because...Trump!

This seems more like "newsflash" material.

Then again, I can understand if we're going to stave off on using that until Mueller's umbrella widens.

Profiting from criminal activity. So maybe not jail time, but sounds ripe for civil asset forfeiture. You know, like when they seize Grandma's house because Resident Grandson is busted for dealing coke.
