Zimbabwe uses US dollars now.

Ok, and Chinese RMB.

And Euros.

And...look, if it's paper and there's numbers printed on it, Zimbabwe is taking it.

Those are not tanks.  They are armored personnel carriers.  I have not seen a single photograph of a tank yet.

This is apparently a Zimbabwean tank.

They're mostly early Cold War models. You can buy a T-55 tank for $60,000 USD. Mugabe has cars that cost more than that.

I suspect transportation of such a beast gets expensive fast, but I'm sure there are a lot of "off road specific"* trucks in the US that cost more than $60k.  Then again, a T-55 tank probably can't do the jeep crawls well.  Just look awesome doing it.
/* not using the odd "off road" part, I mean "obviously not street legal while driving by a speed trap" off road
// don't ask what paperwork is needed to keep the gun.  It wasn't in the US at the magic moment.
///no, you really aren't allowed to keep the gun, stop asking.

Good. Zimbabwe is near the top of the list for countries that need a coup.  Mugabe isn't quite as bad as North Korea's little fat boy, but not for lack of trying.

Zimbabwe dollars aren't accepted any more. They switched over to a scrip type currency called "bond," which is pegged to the US dollar 1=1, but can only be used in country. If you're a masochist you can convert other currencies to bond but you won't be able to change it back when you leave. IIRC Cuba does something similar.

Everyone accepts USD, and in fact they prefer it, but anything else is pretty much only useful at a bank or money changer. I once had a guy follow me half a mile trying to get me to change a Euro coin to USD.

Got a couple sets of mondo-denomination bills from a street hawker for $2 USD.

Yes, that is an M60A1.

And yes, Zimbabwe uses T-55s and Chinese clones, so the pic is just a joke.

This.  The new leader you get after a coup d'état is usually just as bad as the previous leader.  Rarely does this sort of coup result in a better place to live.

Plus there are often some purges.  I doubt Mrs. Mugabe's trial will meet all the standards of the English legal system.

Honestly in the long run she may have been better off sticking around in South Africa to face those assault charges. Though it's also highly likely that she's already on a plane to a friendly nation to enjoy her looted billions.
