It's funny how much parents worry about choking hazards because kids will put anything into their mouths,
Then they grow up and move out and go to college and end up on Brazzers putting anything into their mouths.

As soon as he could crawl my son pulled the cap off one of these and put it in his mouth. A few hours later I had every single one of them JB Welded in place.

Good lord, those people are determined to suck the joy out of everything. A plastic sword can cause "blunt force injury". Well no shiat. So could a rock or a stick. Is there ANY TOY IN THE WORLD safe enough for them?

Why not just using a stick for a sword like we did as kids?

Don't envy my childhood.  I had to settle for sticks as a sword when I was a kid.  It was when I became an adult that I said, "Fark it, I want a sword.  Why?  Because I can, that's why!"

I also have a Viking axe.  That's backup for the zombie apocalypse when I run out of ammo.

Among the other toys that made this year's list is Nerf's "Zombie Strike" crossbow, which the organization says poses the risk of eye and face injuries because it uses a pressurized, pull back lever to shoot soft projectiles.

I can kinda understand this one.. An office I worked in a few years back had assorted Nerf items laying around, and they had a couple Nerf bows. When someone would shoot one at the conference room glass wall, it sounded like they'd hit the goddamn thing with a hammer. Holy crap. I'm glad I never got hit by one of those arrows. I can only imagine how much stronger they've gotten.

And the tightrope between the trees thing sounds a little farking sketchy. But yeah, 95% of the stuff on these lists every year is just people overly freaking out.

My pride and joy when I was ten.   "All rifles and pistols fire caps, bullets and eject shells."  Dad said the pistol was exactly like the one he had in the Navy.

Yeah, if it has a tripod it's not meant for kids. It's meant for adults who want to be the final boss in a Nerf war.

Hmmm, wonder where my '60s Kenner Woodburning Kit would appear on their list... 300 watt soldering iron designed for melting the lead around stained-glass windows, with an 8 inch power cord, the goal being that the yute would burn images into hunks of wood. With a glowing hot electric rod. In the hands of a 9 year old. What could possibly go wrong?

I'm going to start out cheap (about 80.00). I don't want to drop a couple hundred and find out I'm not using the thing.  There are some really impressive higher end pieces.

Between that and the original Mattel Thingmaker, we had a lot of cyborg modified army men.

My wood burning set became my first soldering iron. Used the crap out of it building a crystal radio then a shortwave radio.

We had identical childhoods. :-) In fact that first soldering iron began my 40 years (so far) career as an electronics technician. I now own a computer store that repairs all manner of electronics & still solder almost every day. Kinda wish I'd thought to keep a few of the more intricate woodburning projects I did when I was a kid. Lost to time.
