Lenny_da_Hog: Jury's out on that, since this lame explanation conveniently fails to mention what actual process is happening in the circuits. Doesn't say whether a recorded sound is triggered or a piano-like sound is synthesized.

"the circuit beneath it sends a signal to an external loudspeaker, which plays the appropriate sound."

That said, they are probably triggering samples as that would most likely be the easiest way to go!

2004-06-03 03:49:34 PM
Exactly how is this more impressive than a keyboard?

2004-06-03 03:49:41 PM

bet this guy isn't impressed

2004-06-03 03:49:48 PM

I once crafted a glockenspiel from a series of metal bars tuned to chromatic scale ... and dookey.

2004-06-03 03:58:09 PM
Bear Klaw

That can't sound nearly as good as the 'cockenspiel' I made! (hey! now now, it is most certainly NOT a miniature instrument!!)

2004-06-03 03:58:55 PM
I bought a vibrator made out of tic-tacs, a cowboy hat, and twelve 15-pound bowling balls.

Only fat chicks use it though...

Lenny_da_Hog: Actually, it's not a sampler unless it's capable of sampling audio itself. As it, it's apparently just standard PCM wavetable playback, technically still considered a "synthesizer" by the community at large, though it doesn't make use of any true synthesis techniques, like FM synth or physical modeling. Actually, physical modeling would be even better, most likely, if they wanted a more genuine sound. Given how

/still remembers those damned Casio SK-1 sampling keyboard commercials

2004-06-03 04:18:50 PM
That's what I get for posting in a hurry... :P

It isn't really a surprise that happened, given how

2004-06-03 04:22:38 PM
Hildi did a whole room in cardboard
http://www.noceilingfans.com/s4e24.html

2004-06-03 04:23:03 PM
lol..Casio SK-1 sampling, plus a little kids propensity for making fart noises led to endless hours of hilarity.

/or was it just me?

2004-06-03 04:24:35 PM
A suprise would be if they made a Minimoog out of cardboard

2004-06-03 04:28:55 PM
jonasborg, didn't find any evidence of that but would a cardboard Maximus be close enough?

2004-06-03 04:29:55 PM
buscemi: Zung, I have been. Well played.

wolfzr2: It wasn't just you. I found that belching into it and then pressing the lower keys resulted in a nifty dragon-esque roaring sound. ;) Ah, memories.

2004-06-03 04:33:15 PM
Just a friggin electric keyboard pasted in cardboard. Your matchstick violin is still safe.

2004-06-03 04:34:44 PM
This is the first step for the cure to cancer made out of cardboard.

2004-06-03 04:51:03 PM
In Iraq, they can make a piano out of butts.

///matches the pyramid in the corner.....

2004-06-03 05:02:17 PM
But the impressive part is that they print the circuits on the cardboard, rather than the usual silicone.

I just hope they don't start replacing everything silicone with cardboard, or that old blonde joke might start to come true.

/Why were the blonde's boobies square. . .

2004-06-03 05:03:41 PM
Speaking of Swedes, check out Elin Grindemyr.

Probably NSFW. No nudes, but some risqu bathing suite/lingerie shots.

Hottest Swede ever.

2004-06-03 05:10:47 PM
Can't spell, but I'mm shur you all ar smart enough to figuer that out...

/Hopefully the boobies make up for my lack of English skillz

2004-06-03 05:11:03 PM
No picture?

Gip.

2004-06-03 05:16:28 PM
A pictures is worth a thousand words.

And ironically in this case, a picture alone would have been worth more than the entire freaking article.

Seriously, we godda start giving journalists cameras or something.

2004-06-03 05:19:19 PM
So? I once made a raft out of dead monkeys and a stick.

2004-06-03 05:19:50 PM
FYI, lots of pros (John Paul Jones & Elton John for starters, I THINK) would tour with a sampled or electric piano but would have a grand piano faux cabinet built around it. Less tuning headaches, fewer roadies' backs giving out, etc.

2004-06-03 05:21:19 PM
I don't know how many of you have played an actual grand piano, or even play the piano at all, but there is no way a synthesized sound can come close to the grand I practiced on for 8 years. Normal, constructed pianos are generally much better than electronic ones.

Heh, the one I played on was so antique that it still had elephant-ivory piano keys. It was classic...

George Carlin's things you never hear people say, revised edition:
"Hand me that piano."
"Please saw my legs off."
"Do what you want with the girl, but leave me alone!"
