If you have the time to write, edit, publish, and sell books questioning the mental health of the executive branch leader of your country, then maybe his mental health isn't your real problem as a nation.

It was really exhausting for everyone in America to set aside everything else to work on this, but hey, we got it done, right?

I'm not a doctor, but I play one on the internet.

Trump is the posterboy for Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). A form of sociopathy, he fits exactly into the following:  Read them and decide if he doesn't fit the profile. (List courtesy Psychology Today)

- Exaggerates own importance
- Is preoccupied with fantasies of success, power, beauty, intelligence or ideal romance
- Believes he or she is special and can only be understood by other special people or institutions
- Requires constant attention and admiration from others
- Has unreasonable expectations of favorable treatment
- Takes advantage of others to reach his or her own goals
- Disregards the feelings of others, lacks empathy
- Is often envious of others or believes other people are envious of him or her
- Shows arrogant behaviors and attitudes

The bad news is that a person with NPD will NEVER change until they are removed from a position of power or shuffle off the mortal coil.

How about the opposite, where our leaders find the time to write, edit, and publish books about how the poor people in this country just aren't bootstrappy for him?

If being a stupid asshole is a form of mental illness, sure, he's mentally ill.

I'm OK with acknowledging that.

2017-11-10 06:12:46 PM
I'm not sure its fair to say they come to opposite conclusions, at least for our purposes.  Both assert there is a problem and we need to do something about it.  They merely disagree on the underlying cause of Cheetoh Bandito's pathology:  Is he dangerously mentally ill?  Or merely taking advantage of all of us?

I'd argue that's a distinction without a difference.

People trying to diagnosis his mental state just completely miss obvious:

He's a narcissistic asshole who has zero empathy for other people.

Peace through strength.

Or, as Reagan put it, "Of the four wars in my lifetime, none came about because the U.S. was too strong."

Except, as much as anything, has gotten us in trouble the past 20 years as wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, random drone strikes in other countries, perhaps contribute to further problems for us.

Agreed.
And they seem to have increased in... fervor since Manafort's indictment.
I keep going back every day to discover how Mr. Garrison depicts Mueller and his investigation.
By jingo, since then there have been two depictions of Hillary, and one of Twitter and Facebook censoring Trump.

The scary part is this is what is observable. How much is behavior/habit and how much is performance? (btw- that this is a discussion right now is disturbing in of itself) Psych is a wide field and I admit I easily get distracted when trying to navigate it myself.....

... Where were these types of discussions on Fark back in 06 when I was but a lurker?

Most politicians fit into this category, whether they have NPD or not is a good question.  The same thing could be said about Obama, or Hillary.

Trump is reducing America to a shambles both foreign and domestically.

But hey, stigginit, right?

As a Dem, I am totally ready for a policy of vengeance and salted earth. The leader we elect probably will be more mature and responsible than that, but my vote is for painful retribution.

Probably true - having dealt with having to involuntarily hospitalize someone multiple times, the bar is VERY high. If the person knows what day it is, remembers their own name and not an IMMEDIATE threat to themselves or others, they get to walk. So there's no 25th Amendment solution here. Being NPD or simply a garden variety asshole may be a mental illness....but it's not enough to pull that lever. Trump touts it as a strength.

I think the only useful thing to come out of this is that those who openly support Trump are easily identifiable as someone to avoid at all costs. We need to add the 'F Your Feelings' people to this pic:

I suppose it's possible his cartoons are performance art or that one day he'll peel off his skin suit and reveal that he's really Andy Kaufman. But all indications are that he's the real deal.

It's not even close to the same thing. The behaviors are nothing alike.

Jesus, you know what always gets me--that so few people can see the farking difference between an asshole, and someone who is actually crazy. That's how this idiot got elected.
