The Republicans really want that Alabama senate seat, and they still might get it because much of Alabama really is a third world country, but I really think this is going to blow up in their faces on a national level. There are more reasonable people in this country than you'd think, and just because you can get Southern Baptists and other evangelicals behind you in Alabama does not mean the rest of the country is going to go along with your inbred insanity.

Democrats are going to have a field day with attack ads in 2018.

the GOP might actually do it.  they're going to actually put Moore into the US senate.

I wonder how that will play out at the national level?

GOP - vote for us, we're so desperate we're even willing to put kiddie rapists into power just to save our asses!  praise jebus!

yeah, but I gotta wonder how the GOP can possibly think there won't be any sort of backlash over putting Moore into the Senate.  even if you wanted to ignore these sex abuse allegations, Moore's history of contempt for the law is WELL documented and beyond question.  putting a guy like that into the Senate makes a mockery of the institution.  the fact that Moore is also a sexual predator is almost an afterthought.

she'd probably just have them laser burned off later, and slap down some extra foundation to cover any remaining scars.

you're looking for evidence of guilt from people who think President Pussy Grabber was a good choice to run the country.  none of these people have the capacity for guilt, and its a waste of your time to even start looking for it.

After what McConnell and his buddies did with SCOTUS the Senate is already a mockery. They're going to maintain their razor thin margin there at any cost so they can get their farking tax cuts.

I don't know of anyone who thinks its ok for a 32 year old man to try and have sex with a 14 year old girl.  Even my local trumpers aren't defending Moore - oh they're making vague accusations of conspiracy (yeah, but look at the TIMING man!) but they aren't pushing hard like they have in the past.

this is BAD.  But if the GOP loses this race, it puts the entire senate into play for 2018.  so the GOP has to go all out for Moore (a guy a lot of senior GOP types despise) just to have a couple/few more months of fleeting power before the Democrats ride a wave of Trump hate into control over congress.

Not just that, but the Republicans have an even thinner majority next year. They lose a combination of any two of McCain, Flake, Collins, and/or Murkowski and they can't move anything even with reconciliation. If Moore loses, look for a LOT of shenanigans to get the Tax Bill done before the Senate reconvening in the new year.

From their base - there won't be much, if any.  If he has an R next to his name, he's good.  Because that's what they've been trained to believe and ignore all evidence to the contrary.  What makes you think they would actually start thinking for themselves because Moore went after kids?  Many are still supported a self-admitted sexual predator.

i'm not talking about the trumpers.  those idiots are stone cold f*ck nuts and will back an republican no matter HOW offensive they act or what horrible the crimes they commit.  i'm wondering what the GOP elites think about all this?  THEY know that the party needs at least some level of support from independent voters, women's groups, veterans, and the like.  But putting a known sexual predator and bigot like Roy Moore into the senate *WILL* piss off more than one segment of those independent voters....and will only add to the backlash that is already self evident.  so what are the GOP elites gonna do about Moore?  they're not entirely stupid.  they know how this game is played.   Moore will be a giant weight around their ankles and they know it.  they also know that the mood the country is in right now is NOT KIND to sexual predators, biblical or otherwise.  electing Moore will cost the party as a whole.....and none of the GOP elites seem to be able to stop it from happening.

The dream for McConnell et. al. is that Moore bows out, and they replace him with Strange, who would have a 99% chance of winning.

Unfortunately for them, the base isn't playing along. Yet another example of how they have brainwashed the base too much.

"It's okay when we do it" is a core belief of the 1%.  From crime to socialism, this has always been the standard.  It will be interesting to see how this plays out, but I'm not optimistic.

Aw, is someone jealous that she's never been groped, or worse?  Listen up, lady.  Just cause no one ever wanted your brand, doesn't mean it never happened to anyone else.  Do we really need to round up some volunteers willing to give you a taste of victimization?

As to Roy Moore in the Senate, I'm thinking he will be elected with a wide margin.  And once he gets there, no one will bat an eye.  I know years ago there were stories about interns all over Congress, being warned about whom to avoid.  IIRC, there was some male politician that actually got caught, while still in office, using interns like tissue paper.  Let's not forget Ted Kennedy and his pal that thought making waitress sandwiches was cool as well.  Dennis Hastert, Gary Condit, the names just keep popping in my mind, and I haven't had my first cup of coffee.  The bad part is the half-way decent political types that decide to just retire, rather than try to clean up this mess.

Come on asteroid or Yellowstone caldera, get busy.

She should quit.  Fox News at this point has publicly shown they will pay out the nose to silence victims without actually fixing anything.  That is unless she values the money and fame by being a token female for Fox than her own self-worth and doing her part to stop the madness.

As per the playbook of the GOP. Demonize your opponent for things you do and when that isn't working normalize the things you do. The GOP is adding sexual assault to things that just aren't that bad to do.

I'm glad to hear there are some Trumpers that have some sense about this. Even my most reasonable conservative friends-the ones I used to enjoy a calm, informed debate with-have gone all in. I had to back off when they declared the Vegas shooter a liberal plant in a gun-grabbing plot. I'm certain the Moore accusations are just more fake news to them.

I wish I shared your optimism about 2018. I think the "fall-in-liners" will come out in droves, the likes of which we've never seen. My husband directs a diverse group of ultra-liberal folks part of the year and I'm sure it's easier to herd cats toward a common, time-sensitive goal.

Democrats have to defend 25 seats and Republicans have to defend 9 seats. Republicans are most likely gaining Senate seats in 2018 even if there is a blue wave.
