After the two articles between yesterday and this morning, it is becoming painfully obvious that Trump supporters don't give a fark that he has lived up to absolutely none of his promises because he has become their cult leader or messianic figure who is incapable of wrong.  They refuse to believe actual reported facts on his complete failure because they have been blessed with the gift of declaring anything they don't like as 'fake news' which allows them to immediately dismiss any conflicting thought from their brain permanently as they hunker further down in a twisted fantasy where Trump pretty much rides the wings of eagles around the world kicking ass and taking names, beating up all the wimpy kids and every time he flexes his massive biceps 15 million coal jobs come back to Spunktucket county.

While it sucks for those employees who are losing their jobs, I think that reasonable people can all agree that this is somehow Hillary's fault.

I'm going to be replacing my entire HVAC system in the next year. I currently have a Bryant system.  I live in Indiana, and I try to buy local, so prior to this fiasco I would have at least looked at Carrier 1st.

After this, I'm going with Trane. Fark em.

Imma gonna quote Tacitus one more time today.

"Because they didn't know better, they called it civilization, when it was part of their slavery."

There's a documentary series The Seven Ages of Britain that uses that quote to show how the Romans viewed the inhabitants of Britain.

One of the most enlightening examples that quote reflects was one of the worst mosaics ever created. It was created for a lower class Brit family and was a hideous knock-off of a Roman goddess scene. They commissioned it to prove they had class and belonged to the elite group...

it pretty much is. there are a few bad actors out there, and probably some troll types, who would prefer it wasn't. Fox News for example wants to make a big deal out of it. it's really not. as a progressive i'm more interested in convincing people that certain ideas are good, so in the future they come to fruition. you have to start somewhere.

To be fair, Carrier employees didn't buy this at the time, eighter.

As a mnater of fact, the woman quoted in TFA was a Clinton supporter.

Battle, an admitted supporter of Hillary Clinton, went on to say she felt Trump and Hayes both knew that everything that was being agreed to between them was an act.

"I think the CEO of Carrier and Trump was in bed together the whole time," she said. "That day Trump came to Carrier, those two were too chummy. The way they sniggled and giggled. That sneaky kind of sh*t-eating grin."

It wasn't true, but at least he said it. It needed to be said because those politicians were ignoring it.

He's not going to do anything about it because nothing could fix it, but I support him because he said what needed to be said.

This is what a disenfranchised voter who has totally internalized that disenfranchisement sounds like.

My favorite part is they only fired 215 instead of 275 people this time because enough people already quit on their own.

And Carrier walks away with $7 million in taxpayer money, so, a true victory for the little guy.

Eh, from the linked article:
Carrier in a statement said it "continues to honor its 2016 commitment to employ approximately 1,100 associates in Indianapolis....
Carrier last year announced plans to move all of its Indianapolis operations to Monterrey, Mexico, and close the west-side factory. The pending layoffs became a flashpoint during the presidential election when United Technologies announced it would cut 2,100 jobs in Indiana. Trump slammed the decision on the campaign trail and threatened to "tax the hell" out of Carrier's products.

It sounds like the agreement was to keep half of the jobs in Indiana and not close the plant, not keep all of them. Maybe it was a bad deal (of course it was a bad deal, no one involved had the worker's interests at heart), but it's a bit misleading for Kos to quote the numbers of laid off people, but never once mention how many people are employed there, total.

The Lying Liar who Lies lied? NO WAY!

2017-11-09 01:42:07 PM
Part of the problem is assuming those jobs would ever come back and weren't replaced by automation.

2017-11-09 01:42:42 PM
"The state of Indiana provided as yet undisclosed "incentives" that "influenced the decision" of Carrier to keep "nearly 1000 jobs" in the state.  This is something Pence could have done months ago, and chose not to.

That "nearly 1000" has been updated to "roughly half", then to "over 700", and now it looks like "somewhere between 6 and 7 hundred" is the current line.  Now you all know me, I'm certain not one to be pessimistic about these things (HA!) but something tells me that's gonna turn into "Roughly 350 employees will be kept on site to ensure a smooth transition as we increase efficiency and shareholder value by offloading unnecessary business expenses through increased collaboration with the Mexican plant.  This will be drawn down as our Indiana plant moves into a more support-based roll."  Then in 8 years the plant will close as all the remaining jobs are actually call center jobs and they decide to unload them onto a company that specializes in that.  Then that'll get blamed on the incoming democratic administration.

But hey, I'm trying to keep an open mind here."

-Me, when Trump originally visited the plant.

I have no sympathy for anyone who bought that shiat at the time.  But if this guy in the article was one of the few trying to warn his coworkers back then, then he gets a well deserved month of calling them up and saying "I told you so."

Meh.  Not misleading.  Sloppy.

At the time of the deal they laid off 1000.  Then AFTER that, having agreed to keep "roughly half" of their original work force, they have laid off an additional 600 or so, leaving a few hundred employees in Indiana.

Or at least that's my memory of events.
