Are they going to change the title to 'Time Lady', or are they going with the Hollywood "man's consciousness trapped inside a woman's body" gimmick? My bet is that in the season finale, Benedict Cumberbatch steps out of her skin.

Probably in much the same way that Dubya is enjoying Trump's presidency: it makes his own look less awful.

No more objectively ridiculous than anything worn by the prior Doctors.

But.. Doctor Who always gives the Doctor a great costume...

Give it a rest until the series drops.. will ya?

The next time lady will probably be gothic lolita.

Oh, and she has a cartilage piercing, which will make her very popular in the 1990s.

Because nobody pierces anything anymore.

Jesus, who wrote this farking shiat? Obviously, someone had a deadline, but they could have at least put 5 minutes' worth of effort into this.

As long as the writing gets better, Moffatt took the fun out of the series to try for some huge Grimdark storyline that just wasn't fun to watch.

Not a smart outfit, but hey it's the character not the outfit.

She looks like somebody's gram with her pants yanked up to high.

2017-11-09 11:12:48 AM
Capaldi never really wore the 'official' outfit all that much. Maybe, hopefully, this will be similar.

Or we will just get over it.

2017-11-09 11:14:41 AM
I've kind of given up on this show, given how terrible the writing has been as of late.  Capaldi could have been a fantastic Doctor, but was hobbled with just terrible scripts.  Moffat and Smith started out OK but suffered from Moffat being at the helm too long.  Yes, they've changed show runners, but I've got absolutely no idea what direction the new show runner wants to take the show in...  Other than "wow, a female doctor" (which I think gives a nice opportunity to explore some things), I'm not sure what they want to do with it...

I'm really curious to see what happens.  I have a feeling it's going to crater.  I really hope it doesn't, but I don't have high hopes...

Was hoping for something a little more feminine. Not saying she should be running around in a corset and mini-skirt, but that's probably the least appealing outfit I've ever seen on a woman.

I've never watched Doctor Who.

I will watch the next season.

Well, let's face it, many incarnations of the Doctor have been notorious for pretty atrocious or bizarre fashion sense (maybe #9 excepted).

Kind of a agree...was thinking they'd go for a crossdessed Victorian look but...

You know what, it's the Doctor, s/he's never going to give a look of seriousness and that's part of s/he's charm.

2017-11-09 11:25:22 AM
I like it, it's a fun look, subtlety feminine without going over the top.

It looks like they're going panto again. Last time the show went panto, it was yanked off the air - twice.

I'd be surprised if there aren't already discussions going on at the BBC about doing it again.

I dunno, the Thirteeneth Doctor (let's face it, the exact number of Doctors is pretty much a wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey ball in and of itself, especially since the War Doctor was acknowledged) IS actually kinda tomboy-hot with a bit of 80's Rainbow Brite flair going on, and I would dare say that she STILL doesn't have the most eccentric style of dress of the various regenerations of Doctor-ness. :D

(I shudder to think what y'all would be saying if she dressed like the Fourth Doctor, for instance.  "OH MY GOD SHE'S DRESSING LIKE A TECHNICOLOUR HOBO WHAT THE HELL".  (Much less the Sixth Doctor, whom has already been mentioned, and whose average style of dress tended to be a mix of the contents of Don Cherry's wardrobe and the contents of the wardrobe from the average 70's "Totally Not Done On Hallucinogens" Sid and Marty Krofft production.  Hell, the fact that the good Doctor is going a bit Punky Brewster/Modern Pippi Longstocking is kind of indicative they're feeling better about themselves; at least they're not like the Mistress in going full Scary Poppins.)

It'll feel strange whenever she pulls that dildoesque sonic screwdriver out and waves it about.

Meh. The first look at Matt Smith's doctor looked terrible and didn't end up being anything like the actual look he went with.

Well there it is....the stupidest outfit I've ever seen.
They couldn't make her look classy?

Hell, just about everything from the War Doctor onward was understated (the Eleventyeth Doctor aka Fez-and-Fishsticks-with-Custard Doctor being the most "out there" on fashion, honestly).  Even the Seventh Doctor was more subdued, but then again Don Cherry's average wardrobe on "Hockey Night in Canada"(or, for the Americans in the audience who don't watch Canadian hockey, the general wear of the late Craig Sager is pretty much the American equivalent, and pretty much every bit as loud and so offensive to fashion it causes Frenchmen to spontaneously explode) is generally considered "understated" in comparison with the Sixth Doctor's wardrobe, and anything more out there might well tear a hole into the Time Vortex itself.

Just remember, she's the Doctor, so she has to wear something that she can run down corridors in.

I'm not crazy about the flood pants myself but otherwise it looks fine by Doctor standards.

Yeah.  I am sure they are discussing this.  Right.

When Who stops brining in billions world wide maybe the discussions will start then.

If they made this doctor sexy then that would get criticism as well.

The first female doctor is going to be judged at least three times as roughly as usual.  Nothing is going to be right.  Whatever is done there is going to be some fanboy whining that he isn't going to watch ever again.  There is going always going to be the person saying it is about to be cancelled (seen already on this thread). It's typical for any "first time a woman has..." situations.

And this is coming from someone who LOVES Doctor Who and has loved it since before some of these fan boys have been alive... it's a TV show.  Your life is NOT going to be ruined if they do something wrong. Enjoy it for what it is.  If you don't like it... well there is always something else you can spend you time on.

If they wanted to hire a female, why didn't they get one with boobs?

The running scenes could have been epic.

You do realize the BBC had discussed ending the show just because Tennant left, right?
And that was before the ratings started to really fall off.

fickenchucker: If they wanted to hire a female, why didn't they get one with boobs?

They're not breasts, okay? They're Dalek bumps. They can detect ion charged emissions and operate as aetheric beam locators at a distance of up to twenty thousand light years. They're also extremely firm.

/ Obscure?
// I hope not.
/// From the first episode with a female doctor.
//// I'll explain later.

The female companions always managed to run along side the doctor while dressed in something flattering. The outfit probably wouldn't be so bad if they got rid of the suspenders and flood pants.

2017-11-09 12:20:20 PM
Meh, I like it okay. The stories and acting will be what's important, so as long as the outfit doesn't make you gouge your eyes out, it's no biggie.
