But don't you dare call them racists, no siree.

Same thing with TPP. Claim it's the "worst deal ever" then turn around and propose a new agreement with the exact same rules.

Sadly - I went on the Trumpcare website, and found out my premiums will be doubling.

Trying to shop outside ACA, but quotes are coming in around the same price.

Any subsidies?

And the Trumpers ate it up too, what a pack of sheep. It will be funny in a year or so after they sign up and use it that the GOP and Trump turn around and try to fark it up, that will be a mess of epic proportions. They will probably scream "I thought they were just gonna take it away from them people and not me!"

Nope - make too much for those - but I'm a contractor.  My firm I contract through offers insurance, but it's pretty expensive.  Next year's ACA preimiums will be within about $200 of the work plan.
Jumping from $850 a month to about $1700.  So thanks Trumps for kneecapping the system for the middle class.  Wasn't going to vote for you ever anyway, but I can add this to the reasons to never vote Republican again, and to instead volunteer to help beat them.

That is the same joke as telling people that voting day has been changed to Wednesday. Except, not destructive. Unless it's to your vanity once the joke has been pointed out.

What's depressing is there might be people who won't see the joke even after it has been pointed out.

The national average is +28%.  You know, because the federal government threatens to kick all young healthy people out of health care insurance, and dramatically shrink the risk pool.  Trump is also slinging his feces at insurers and threatens to withhold payments for subsidies.  It turns out that the insurance industry wants
to make money or something.

Yes, that is the joke. On its own, it is not very humorous but the real punchline is Trump's supporters actually being fooled.

There are two levels. One is the joke that we can see he is playing up the stupidity of Trump's base by praising Obama's plan as "TrumpCare". However, by not breaking character and revealing it as a troll he is driving the same Trump people to sign up and bolster national health care while touting the benefits that Trump wants to get rid of.

He's doing all of this while letting that base think him a moron and taking the ego hit. A noble effort, I say.

The odd thing is this. Maybe this joke will make people think TrumpCare actually passed. There was no hullabaloo, no preening, no Arrested Development chicken dance from the GOP. But maybe people will "remember" scenes like that. Like the cheering throngs of Muslims in New Jersey after 9/11.

I don't think this is helping.

The lie was acted out so well and so straight-faced that I'm certain there were Trump non-supporters in the audience who were asking "Wait, what?  There is now TrumpCare?".

I'm going to send the clip to a buddy who's a Trump supporter and tell him I was wrong.  Standby for updates.

Do you remember when Kentucky sold plans as "KYCare" and they couldn't use the Obamacare name? Same thing.

At some point it would probably be good for people to remember that America is full of 0 people who are feelings-based rather than based, and this is about how Obama made them feel versus how Trump makes them feel. Facts have nothing to do with any of this. And they vote.

Yes.  IMHO most Trump voters didn't know a) Obamacare = the ACA, and b) they had subsidized healthcare.  I also suspect c) many don't know they don't have good health care because their GOP governor or legislature refused to expand Medicaid under the ACA because reasons (African American President).
By flattering Trump and giving him credit, maybe he can win over the President.  There are few things in life Trump likes better than flattery, associating himself with the success of others, or blatantly taking credit for other people's work.

What's interesting is how many news orgs are playing along while reporting on this.

First I heard of this is when I read this article this morning:

If they were smart, congressional Republicans would have passed a once-sentence bill saying "The ACA will no longer be referred to as 'Obamacare'" and then taken credit for getting rid of the Obamacare that people hate while keeping the ACA that people love, and their constituents would have eaten it up.

They're not smart.

That is some really clever and meta anti-propaganda by Kimmel right there.

The most beautiful bit is he's flipping the script on Trumpism and using positivity and optimism instead of bile and venom in his mix of truth and lie.  That sugar water is candy to the Trumpkin rubes.

Honestly, I'm impressed.  Never thought the guy from Win Ben Stein's Money (working with a huge Nixon apologist) and The Man Show (which would be an alt-right darling project these days) would wind up being so decent and intelligent.  Kudos, sir!

It just hit me, this isn't trolling - this is proper social engineering. It's a modest to light version of it, but that's what he is doing. He has targeted a group based on their biases and inabilities to perform actions to get an end result he wants. From the social media, it has at the base level started working. I would guess that as his video, designed with a lie but told straight faced, makes the rounds he could easily drive Trump folks to Obamacare.

yakmans_dad: But maybe people will "remember" scenes like that.

I would guess only the Trump base who wouldn't read/research it anyway would ever think that way. And that's ok if people are taken care of properly.

I think it's brilliant of Jimmy to move the spotlight from ObamaCare to TrumpCare.  The focus and expectations are now firmly on Trump.  When all of the American's who signed up figure out they have been screwed (with no lube), it will be too late for Trump to blame in on Obama.  It's his name on it now, he owns that train-wreck.

They weren't ever going to change their minds. 25-30% just can't be reached, can't be compromised with, and appear to be determined to act against their own self-interests (for a variety of reasons). There is no point, as clearly demonstrated, in trying to work with them. So now we must work around them, and if the consequence is we suffer their smug or their outrage, I say smug is less likely to lash out in a violent tantrum.

Brandi Morgan Of course there is no TrumpCare - just like there is no ObamaCare (it's actually called the Affordable Care Act). Kimmel is making fun of the fact that while people generally don't like "ObamaCare" they really like the ACA. By calling it TrumpCare, some people may actually go to healthcare.gov and get health insurance.
